Gou Kongjie. His 36 part form is a shortened combination of the longer, slower Laojia Yilu and shorter, faster Laojia Erlu.
In my method Laojia (old frame) uses bigger, more obvious circles making it easier to learn than Xinjia (new frame). Also being a shorter combination form means that the choreography is easier to get to grips with so students who don't live and breathe taijiquan can spend more time with the taiji principles.

To find out more about Stuart's Teacher Gou Kong Jie nourishingmoves.com/nourishing-moves/2018/11/25/chen-tai-chi-with-grandmaster-gou
Stuart first started practicing Chinese martial arts as a boy, with Praying Mantis and Wing Chun Kung-Fu. As his Kung-Fu practice deepened, he began to study Taijiquan (Tai Chi) as a way to complement his Kung-Fu practice by softening the body, quietening the mind and building internal energy.
It wasn’t long before the depth of Tai Chi practice presented itself and took over as his main focus of training.
Stuart has spent the last 11 years focused solely on Chen style Tai Chi, continuing his training in Oxford as a disciple to 11th generation lineage holder, Grandmaster Kongjie Gou.
Stuart’s Aim when teaching Tai Chi is to keep the traditional training methods alive, while making the training process clear for the western practitioners.
Stuart understands that Tai Chi can mean different things to different people, be it for health cultivation, mindfulness practice, playful movement or as an effective martial art.
Ultimately Stuart believes that with correct and persistent practice Tai Chi should bring balance into all areas of the student’s life.

This perfect pair ladder challenge takes two complimentary exercises and puts them together. To simplify the kettlebell swing will strengthen the muscles in the back of your body with the burpee strengthening the muscles in the front of your body. Both exercises work to improve power, speed, strength, cardiovascular health, agility and burn fat.
Pick a medium weight kettlebell for your fitness level and perform 20 swings. After and with as little rest as possible perform 10 burpees.
Perform another 20 swings but this time 9 burpees. After another 20 kettlebell swings perform 8 burpees. Continue this pattern until all the way down the ladder to 20 swings and 1 burpee. You will have completed 200 kettlebell swings and 55 burpees which your muscles, heart and lungs will confirm!
Try to complete this challenge as quickly as possible.
To increase the challenge you could swap the swing to a single arm swing and perform 10 reps on each arm. Or try replacing the swing altogether with a kettlebell snatch, again perform 10 on each arm.

The swing is the king of kettlebell exercises! Not only does it improve strength, power, burn fat and build muscle, it also improves our posture and helps fix our bodies from the chair based shape we can easily become.
This advanced challenge focuses solely on the kettlebell swing and asks you to perform swings with 4 different weights. In this example I used a 20kg, 24kg, 28kg and 32kg kettlebell. There are 4 rounds to this challenge with 80 swings to be done in the first, 60 swings in the second, 40 swings in the third round and 20 in the 4th and final round.
For the first round perform 20 swings with the 20kg kettlebell, 20 swings with the 24kg kettlebell, 20 swings with the 28kg kettlebell and 20 swings with the 32kg kettlebell.
After a short rest begin round 2, repeating the pattern but for 15 swings with the the 4 progressively heavier kettlebells. Perform 10 reps with each kettlebell for the third round and just 5 reps with each kettlebell for the 4th round. By the end of the 4th round you will have completed 200 kettlebell swings.
Take as much rest as you need but time the challenge to give you a bench mark. Look to shorten the time it takes to complete the challenge with practice. If you can complete the challenge in under 10 minutes its time to increase the weights. Swap the lightest kettlebell with a new heavier one. For this example I would replace the 20kg kettlebell with a 36kg kettlebell so the order would be 24kg kettlebell, 28kg kettlebell, 32kg kettlebell and 36kg kettlebell.
The video of me attempting this challenge shows it isn’t easy.

"Kettlebell Bodybuilder" is designed to build whole body muscle. There are 4 exercises which are split into pairs or supersets. The first superset is a pair of push and pull movements. A Decline Chest Press followed by a Renegade Row.
Repeat one exercise after the other with as little rest as possible.
After a 30 second to 1 minute rest begin the second superset. Start with a Double Kettlebell Clean followed by a Double Kettlebell Front Squat. Take a 30 second to 1 minute rest and repeat this sequence for 5 rounds.
The idea is to start with a weight which you can manage 8 repetitions with. Build up to 12 repetitions on each exercise over time before increasing the weight.
I would recommend repeating this workout 3 times a week for around 6 weeks for best results.
Performing 8-12 repetitions using large, multi joint exercises with short rest periods is the optimal way to build muscle.

"Backside Builder" is designed to focus on the backside muscles in a progressive and challenging way. This routine is perfect for people who need to develop more strength and muscle in the backside/glutes.
The routine starts with a glute bridge to wake the backside muscles up ready for the kettlebell swing.
The kettlebell swing will then have maximum benefit for the glutes. The single leg deadlift challenges one side at a time in a hinge pattern with the lunge also focusing on one side at a time but in a lunge pattern.
Repeat these 4 complimentary exercises for 5 rounds taking a 1 minute rest between each round. Once you can manage this try using a heavier kettlebell.

"Beginner Kettlebell workout" introduces you to the kettlebell swing, goblet squat and standing plank.
The standing plank teaches you to hold your body with tension in a standing position. This is an essential skill when strength training and exactly how you should hold your body at the top of a swing and squat.
The kettlebell swing will work the back of your body with the goblet squat focusing more on the front of your body making this a simple yet complete workout.
Aim to complete the 3 exercises for a total of 5 rounds. Take a 1 minute rest between each round. Once you can manage this try using a heavier kettlebell.
I would suggest men start with a 12kg kettlebell and ladies a 8kg kettlebell.

"Upper Body Builder" uses higher reps and less rest to create a muscle building effect. The 4 exercises focus on the upper body muscles but as with most kettlebell exercises the whole body will still get some work.
The four exercises are paired into 2 supersets
Superset A
Renegade Row x 8 reps each arm
Kettlebell Press Up x 10 reps
Superset B
Double Kettlebell Clean x 8 reps
Double Kettlebell Press x 8 reps
Don't take any rest between the two exercises in the superset but take a 20-30 second rest between supersets. Complete 5 rounds like this.
The aim is to build the reps up to 12 on all 5 sets. Once you can manage this increase the weight and drop the reps back to 8.

"2-1-3 Double Strength" uses 3 of the main human movement patterns and develops raw strength within them. The repetition ratio is suited to the individual lifts so you can use the same two kettlebells and put the exercises into a short sequence.
Set a stop watch or timer and complete 2 Double Kettlebell Cleans, 1 Double Kettlebell Press and 3 Double Kettlebell Front Squats. The time remaining from the minute is your rest time. Complete another 2-1-3 round on the next minute.
Aim to build up to 10 rounds. Once you can manage 10 rounds increase the weight of the kettlebells and drop the number of rounds to 3-5. Build back up to 10 rounds over time.
Remember to move well with control. Beautiful movement develops beautiful bodies.

The Anti Ageing Ladder is perfect to reawaken your body from a day at the desk and helps to keep your body strong and mobile with good posture. I view strength and mobility as the fountain of youth and that's exactly what this routine targets.
The Kettlebell Swing fires up those muscles which go to sleep from sitting. Click below for my Kettlebell Swing Tutorial

The Hindu Press up opens and stretches the muscles which get tight and stagnant from a day at the office.
By putting the exercises together in a ladder system the circulation also gets pumping aiding health and fat loss.
To follow the Anti Ageing Ladder perform 20 Two Hand Kettlebell Swings followed by 10 Hindu press up. Repeat the sequence but drop the Hindu press ups to 9 repetitions. Keep the kettlebell swing at 20 repetitions for each round. Continue this descending ladder for 10 rounds. By round 10 you will perform 20 Two Hand Kettlebell Swings and Just 1 Hindu Press Up.
If the Hindu press up is too challenging switch it for the Cobra Flow instead. The Cobra Flow will still open those tight desk bound muscles but require less upper body strength. You can also reduce the number of Kettlebell Swing to 10 reps to scale the challenge back. If the Hindu press up is too challenging you can swap it for the cobra flow which is demonstrated later in the video.
Good luck!!

The "Skip & Swing" kettlebell workout has a very simple yet highly effective format.
The kettlebell swing is included to develop strength-endurance while the skipping improves co-ordination and agility. This is perfect for those who want to be more competitive at sports as well as those looking to stay springy and youthful.
Simply perform 1 minute of skipping followed by 20 two hand kettlebell swings.
Repeat the two exercises with as little rest as possible for a total of 10 rounds.
This should take around 15 minutes.
Once you can manage 10 rounds without rest you can increase the challenge by using single arm swings or even the kettlebell snatch as a progression of the two hand kettlebell swing.
Once you can manage this you may wish to increase the weight.

The Humane Burpee is the perfect workout if your short on time as you can complete it in just under 5 minutes.
The workout targets the key muscles that get weak and tight from sitting at a desk.
By putting the exercises together into a complex the circulation soon gets pumping too keeping the heart healthy and aiding fat loss.
Perform 5 rounds without rest of:
Kettlebell Two Hand Swings x 15 reps
Kettlebell Goblet Squat x 5 -1 Reps
Press Ups x 5 -1 Reps
Decrease the number of reps by 1 for the goblet squat and press up after each round. This is why it's humane, getting easier as it goes on, finishing with just 1 goblet squat and 1 press up.
Keep the kettlebell swings at 15 reps for each round. Once you can manage the Humane Burpee without rest try increasing then weight.
A good goal for men is to use the 24kg kettlebell.
Women should build up to the 16kg kettlebell with practice.
