Not only will you be keeping waste out of landfills, but you'll also be reducing your dependence on traditional firewood, making it a win-win situation for you and the planet.
1. Collect paper waste: Gather newspapers, junk mail, cardboard boxes, and any other paper waste that you have accumulated.
2. Shred the paper: Use a shredder or scissors to cut the paper into small pieces. The smaller the pieces, the better the logs will hold together. Soak the shredded paper in a bin with water to create a paper pulp.
3. Optional: Encase the paper pulp in a toilet paper tube: This can help the log keep its shape. Insert the tube into the center hole of the Kindle Spindle.
4. Load the Kindle Spindle: Pack the shredded paper pulp into the Kindle Spindle, filling it about 3/4 of the way.
5. Plunge and compress: Use the plunger to compress the paper into a dense log, releasing the water. Repeat until the log is firm and compact.
6. Dry the log: Remove the log from the Kindle Spindle and let it dry completely of water. This can take up to a few days, depending on the humidity levels in your area.
7. Fuel the log: Once the log is dry, insert a fuel source (such as rubbing alcohol) into the center hole of the log. This will provide air flow for better burning.
8. Light the log: Place the log in your fire pit or fireplace and light the fuel source. Enjoy a hot, eco-friendly fire!
Remember to always follow proper fire safety guidelines and never leave a fire unattended!
Tips for Success:
1. Don't Over water your paper. It doesn't need to soak to long, just enough to become pliable and compressible.
To wet and to pulpy may result in a harder to remove Spindle.
2. After applying fuel, keep the spindle in an upright position as possible. Giving it a little leverage; perhaps with a stick, will allow air flow to travel up and will effectively create a jet stove engine. When loaded with PET#1 before being connected to the spooler, the recreated strips to filament, will colorize while being pull spooled. Easy and convenient. Mess free and allows for the markers to be properly stored in between coloring. Happy Recreating!
