0:15 World’s Largest Green Hydrogen Site – It creates hydrogen using renewable energy generated by local wind and solar farms. It stores the hydrogen as green ammonia, making it safer and easier to transport. Envision is building the facility in Chifeng, China.
1:36 Climate Change Costs Africa 5% GDP – Droughts and heavy flooding are hitting food production hard. This is driving up prices and damaging supply chains while desertification and habitat destruction are driving people from their homes. Africa suffers disproportionately from the impacts of climate change.
3:58 Hungry farmers, feed our world – The global food system is worth around $15 trillion, roughly 16% of global GDP. But despite it being one of the planet’s richest industries, farmers are often shut out of the wealth. This expert explains why food systems need to change.
9:09 Is the global economy stabilizing? – Indermit Gill is the Chief Economist of the World Bank. In the US, nearly 9 in 10 chief economists expect moderate or strong growth in the year ahead while 70% predict strong or very strong growth in South Asia. However, Gill says it’s important to put this growth into context.

7:39 This debt plan can save coral reefs – The deal reduces Indonesia’s debt repayments to the US by $35 million over the next 9 years and redirects those payments towards reef conservation instead. Indonesia is home to 16% of the world’s coral reefs and around 60% of the world’s coral species. Its reefs generate around $1.6 billion in value every year through fisheries, coastline protection and tourism. But Indonesia’s reefs face a range of threats.
9:21 Ray Dalio on funding climate action – By 2050, climate damage could cost between $1.7 trillion and $3.1 trillion per year. However, the costs of inaction could be even greater, says Ray Dalio, the founder of the world’s largest hedge fund, Bridgewater Associates. Right now, climate action is hugely under-financed.

0:15 Climate change disrupts air travel – As global warming changes the climate, conditions for air travel are changing too. In a survey of more than 50 airports in Latin America and the Caribbean, nearly all said they already face adverse climate change impacts. Including a greater risk of flooding more storms and hurricanes and higher air temperatures, which make takeoffs more difficult. These issues can lead to flight cancellations and steep costs.
2:24 Brazil tops G20 in renewable energy – Brazil generated 89% of its electricity from renewables in 2023. A massive 60% came from hydropower and 21% from its rapidly growing wind and solar sector. Brazil’s renewables share puts it far ahead of the rest of the G20.
4:15 Youth unemployment at a 15-year low – The labour market for people aged 15-24 has recovered following the pandemic and it’s on an upward trajectory says the International Labour Organization. The global youth unemployment rate now stands at 13%. Which means 65 million young people are out of work. That might sound a lot but it’s the lowest figure since the turn of the millennium.
6:16 Britain’s electricity superhighway – Investment in clean energy must triple globally by 2030 to keep the world on track to hit net zero by 2050. The UK is installing a new 2GW cable to transport renewable energy. It will run 436km under the sea from Scotland to Yorkshire in England. The cable will be the longest in Britain and is due to be ready by 2029. It will deliver offshore wind energy to up to 2 million households.

0:15 How cornea transplants work – Corneal problems are the second-biggest cause of blindness worldwide. But there’s a shortage of replacement corneas, with only one for every 70 needed. In 2024, 10 million people are waiting for a transplant. This method uses the patient’s own cells to create a unique ink. This is layered to form a new cornea, which perfectly matches the patient’s body and reduces the risk of rejection.
2:14 These countries could join the OECD – Accession talks are now underway with Indonesia and Thailand. If successful, they will become the OECD’s first members from Southeast Asia. Entry to this club would be good news for all concerned, says the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD). Membership could deliver a healthy economic boost to both countries. Their accession would be a big win for the OECD in what it describes as the ‘world’s most dynamic economic region’.
5:29 Energy transition will boost African jobs – Africa is rich in sources of renewable energy such as solar and hydropower. The continent also boasts the world’s youngest and fastest-growing workforce. These resources can help Africa bypass fossil fuel-powered development, the report says and instead leap directly into a sustainably-powered future.
9:07 Why some clothes are easier to recycle – Clothing made from a mix of fibres, such as cotton and polyester, can be very, very difficult to recycle. Globally, around 87% of discarded textiles end up in landfill, while up to one-third of ocean microplastics come from synthetic fibres. Recycling clothing could be part of the solution to these problems but just 1% of textiles are recycled. And mixed-fibre clothing is one of the reasons why.
