Common Mistakes You Might be Making with Your PC Fan Setup! PC airflow tips and tricks @TheProvokedPrawn

The Provoked Prawn In this video I'm talking about things to avoid when building your PC in terms of installing the fans. There's a logic to installing your fans for the best airflow. If you're a seasoned PC builder then this video might not be for you, but for beginners, sometimes it can be confusing.

There are certain things to keep in mind:
1 - Airflow through fans tends to go front-to-back. In other words, the front of the fan pulls the air and the back sucks. So you'd usually want to face intake fans facing outwards from the case and exhaust fans with their back to the vents.
2 - Hot air rises, so where possible it's best to put intake fans on the front and bottom of your case, then exhaust fans on the top and rear.
3 - Avoid putting intake and exhaust fans in close proximity. If you put intake fans on the front, but then exhaust fans on the side, right near by, all you're doing is making air flow into the case, then immediately out again. Not ideal.
4 - Watch out for falling into the trap of installing fans just so you can see the RGB. This is easy to do and I've done it too.
5 - Make sure you put intake fans on the bottom of your case if possible. If you set bottom ones to exhaust, then they'll be fighting the GPU fans that are trying to draw air through the graphics card to cool it. Most GPUs vent air out of the rear near the HDMI/DP connections. But there will also be some venting above as heat naturally dissipates.

Faster boot times easily!

The Provoked Prawn 2023-01-24 | Hello this is the Provoked Prawn with some simple tips to help you get your PC to boot faster. You may well find that there are some settings you've missed that are causing it to take a while to load, so watch this video to find out what you can change to make a difference.

The first setting to tweak is in your BIOS settings:
1 - Turn on your PC and when you see the motherboard logo mash the DEL or F2 key on your keyboard and keep mashing until you enter the bios.
2 - From there look for advanced settings, especially boot settings. Click on these settings and look for boot configuration.
3 - In these settings look for an option for FAST Boot and enable it if it is disabled. There may be other settings in different manufacturer BIOS settings. For example MSI has MSI fast boot, so look for any boot settings you can and turn those on.
4 - Next check your boot priority settings. If you have multiple SSDs or HDDs in your machine then the computer might be trying to boot up from several of these drives which can slow things down. To stop this, set your main Windows boot disk as first in the list and disable the other drives under these options if you can manage it.

Now in Windows look for start-up apps. If you've had your PC for a while and there are a lot of things installed that can really slow things down. So do this:
1 - Press CTRL+Shift+Escape on your keyboard to open Task Manager. From there look for "start up" options. On Windows 11 it's on the left menu, on Windows 10 its on the top.
2 - Filter the apps by "high impact" to see which ones might be slowing things down.
3 - Click to disable any app that you don't need loading when Windows does. This can include all sorts of things, but be careful not to disable things you aren't sure about as that can cause issues. Disable as much as possible and it will help.

How to make your PC boot faster - easy tips for fast loading

The Provoked Prawn 2023-01-23 | Hello this is the Provoked Prawn with some simple tips to help you get your PC to boot faster. I've been using this card for a couple of weeks, editing and rendering videos, streaming and capturing gameplay footage and playing on my Samsung Ultrawide gaming monitor.

Why You DONT Need a Dual PC Streaming Setup

The Provoked Prawn 2023-01-18 | Provoked Prawn here with a slightly controversial opinion probably, on why you don't need a dual PC setup. It's my opinion, based on experience, that a two PC setup isn't necessary for streaming. Modern PCs are perfectly capable of both recording and streaming footage at good quality and with good results too. It's also possible to adjust various settings in both OBS and Windows (if you have the right hardware) to result in a different recording to your stream. This means you can record without an overlay and camera and with separate audio tracks, so you can create all sorts of different content with ease.

My experience is that it's possible to do all this with a single PC and without having a negative impact on your FPS performance or the smoothness of gameplay. Obviously this is going to depend heavily on your gaming machine and the spec of it, as well as your broadband and your OBS settings. BUT I've been doing it for years with a number of different PC builds, including lesser specced systems. So I believe it's perfectly plausible to do.

Keyboard snobs will often argue that "gamer" keyboards are rubbish and nothing compared to custom built keyboards you can buy and craft yourself. Indeed even some budget keyboards are great compared to more expensive ones from better known brands. Take these for example:

But the ROG Azoth is different because it's a super flagship keyboard that boasts a number of truly fantastic features that include:
- A really solid and hefty body that feels superbly comfortable.
- Pre-lubed switches and excellent stabilisation
- Three layers of dampening that removes any horrid ping and hollow sounds
- An excellent "thonky" sound when typing but also a comfortable experience too
- A display screen that can be used for multiple things including displaying effects, multimedia things, system info and more

Lightweight frame but doesn't feel "cheap"

The Harpe Ace is interesting for a number of reasons, not least of which is that Aim Lag integration.

In this video, we're comparing the Asus ROG Harpe Ace Aim Lab vs the Logitech G Pro X Superlight mice. We're looking at the weight, design, and features of these two mice to see which one is the best options for lightweight mice.

6 months later with the Herman Miller Embody - my back hurts dammit

The Provoked Prawn 2023-01-11 | Over six months ago I spent a stupid amount of money on the Herman Miller X Logitech Embody gaming chair. These are my thoughts on the chair and long-term use. I regret it.

I bought the chair assuming the high-end name and brand would back up a chair that should see to my needs - all day comfort and back support. Instead I've ended up in an uncomfortable position where I'm constantly in pain and it's miserable.

The Provoked Prawn 2023-01-11 | This is the @asusrog Azoth, a 75% custom wireless gaming keyboard that's quite easily the best main brand gaming keyboard I've tried. Keyboard snobs will often argue that "gamer" keyboards are rubbish and nothing compared to custom built keyboards you can buy and craft yourself. Indeed even some budget keyboards are great compared to more expensive ones from better known brands. Take these for example:

But the ROG Azoth is different because it's a super flagship keyboard that boasts a number of truly fantastic features that include:
- A really solid and hefty body that feels superbly comfortable.
- Pre-lubed switches and excellent stabilisation
- Three layers of dampening that removes any horrid ping and hollow sounds
- An excellent "thonky" sound when typing but also a comfortable experience too
- A display screen that can be used for multiple things including displaying effects, multimedia things, system info and more
- A non-gamer look and feel

All this adds up to being one of the best keyboards I've tried. It really surprised me in a number of ways.

Things I like about it:
Lightweight frame but doesn't feel "cheap"
Both Bluetooth and Wireless but also decent battery life
RGB is actually useful - shows changes in RGB and when battery is running low
Smooth action
Grip tape looks funky

Things I don't like:
What is the point in the UV logo? But hey, I like the torch.

Streamplify microphone:

This is an interesting microphone that includes a number of neat features that make it interesting and perhaps a valid alternative to the HyperX Quadcast.

Those features include a built in shock mount and attachable pop filter, RGB lighting and great capture quality, but it's also interesting because it seems to have a hardware level noise cancellation system too.

This are two fantastic mice with their own highlights in terms of design, specs, buttons and features. I was a big fan of the original Logitech G502 and now the newer models are much improved thanks to optical switches. This is a fantastic gaming mouse with some awesome features:

Streamplify Mic: A HyperX Quadcast Competitor? (In-depth review and mic test)

The Provoked Prawn 2022-12-31 | Here I'm unboxing and reviewing the Streamplify Mic with its tripod and on a Rode PSA1+ boom arm.

This is an interesting microphone that includes a number of neat features that make it interesting and perhaps a valid alternative to the HyperX Quadcast.

Those features include a built in shock mount and attachable pop filter, RGB lighting and great capture quality, but it's also interesting because it seems to have a hardware level noise cancellation system too.

We're also going to be going over some of the best ways to measure the performance of a NVMe SSD, and dispel some of the myths about NVMe PCIe speeds.

If you're looking to install a NVMe SSD in your computer, then this video is for you! We'll cover everything from the basics of NVMe SSDs to the best way to install them. We'll also discuss some of the key factors to consider when choosing a NVMe SSD, and how to measure their performance.

The process for installing is really easy but may vary depending on your motherboard - some have heatsinks and different screw setups. It's also worth checking your manual as you may find that not all the drives work the same way.

NVMe installation is easy in theory but it's important to keep these things in mind:
- Use the top spot where possible to ensure x4 PCIe lanes
- Remove any plastic stickers from heatsinks and shields
- Use thermal pads to disperse heat
- If you install multiple drives this may reduce PCIe lanes available for your GPU
- You may need to change settings in your BIOS
- When installing in Windows use the Disk Management/Create a partition settings to set the drive up
- Always benchmark to make sure it's running as it should be.

This is a nifty mouse with some great features. It has some really cool design features that include an easy to use, RGB capable charging base, a ridiculous battery life, a customisable scroll wheel that you can adjust feedback on and the awesome little paddle.

This is very much a right-handed mouse, but it's also textured and ergonomic, making it really comfortable to use.

The Razer Basilisk is superbly accurate. It uses optical sensors (see here - razer.com/gb-en/razer-focus-plus-sensor) that ensure high accuracy and take away the risk of accidental double clicks.

The Provoked Prawn 2022-12-20 | In this video, I'm comparing the Razer Basilisk V3 Pro and the Logitech G502 X Lightspeed. I'll be looking at specs, features, and how they compare against each other. Which one is the best choice for you?

These are two very similar mice in terms of aesthetic, design and have comparable specs too. They both have fast spin mouse wheels, optical switches and masses of buttons. They're both also upgradable so you can use them with wireless charging mats or docks so you don't need to plug them in. On paper the Razer mouse is the better of the two, with better specs but the Logitech G502 X has a better mouse wheel and more buttons, as well as a superior wheel.

Razer Basilisk V3 Pro Unboxing and review

The Provoked Prawn 2022-12-20 | Here's my review of the Razer Basilisk V3 PRO gaming mouse. I've been using this Razer mouse for a couple of weeks and want to share my thoughts on what this gaming mouse is like to use. I'm showing off the various features of the mouse here including the interesting things like the "smart" wheel which can adjust on the fly, the various programmable buttons, the changes you can make in the software to add even more programmability with Razer Hypershift and more besides. If you just want to hear a sound test I've left that at the end of the video too.

This a great mouse if you're a right handed gamer. It's very similar to the Logitech G502 X and that's no bad thing. I'll be doing a video to compare them side-by-side soon, so subscribe and watch out for that

Aside from the spinning mouse wheel, other highlights include the wireless QI (pronounced "Chi") charging. With the fanciest model of this mouse (or additional purchases) you can get a charging puck and dock for wireless charging.

This is one of the better mice I've used lately and replaces the excellent Basilisk Ultimate as a great contender for top spot in terms of having the best specs and features.

The Provoked Prawn 2022-12-16 | This is a video on the Kingston Fury Renegade NVMe SSD, showing you how to install the drive both in terms of hardware and the installation in Windows 10 or Windows 11.

The process for installing is really easy but may vary depending on your motherboard - some have heatsinks and different screw setups. It's also worth checking your manual as you may find that not all the drives work the same way.

The Provoked Prawn 2022-12-13 | If you've found that you've installed your Lian Li fans but the RGB controls aren't working properly while using L-Connect then these tips may well help. Here I'm showing you how to fix the RGB on your favourite fans with some easy steps that'll assist you. :)

The important thing is to ensure:
1 - The control box is connected properly to your motherboard via USB
2 - The control box has power via the SATA cable and your PSU
3 - Your L-Connect is the latest version
4 - Your control box has the latest firmware

To get the firmware updates for your controller, head over here and download the tool:

You may also need to uninstall and reinstall L-Connect 3

You can check for updates in there but it doesn't always work.
