Aiden is a very smart but reactive horse, so I decided to take him out in the world to keep him challenged and interested in his work. Helping Your OTTB Horse To Find Relaxation Under Saddle Basic Horse Training 2023-10-15 | In this video, I show you a completely unedited training session with Dale, the OTTB (Off the Track ThoroughBred). You will see that he finds it hard to relax under saddle and once I ask him to move into the trot he moves around with his head in the air and hollow in the back. This is not good for him from either a mental or a physical perspective. I will show you what I do to get him to relax a little and begin to "stretch" his head and neck which will relax his body. If you own a thoroughbred horse this training video may help you. Most OTTB horses will go like this, and it takes time and patience to train them, but they are worth it! Horse Training - First Ride Under Saddle Basic Horse Training 2023-05-28 | Training a horse to be ridden is, for me, one of my favourite things to do. The first ride under saddle is always interesting as, from our groundwork, we have some idea how our horse will react, but we can never be sure; as for the horse, we have disappeared from in front of them to where they can't always see us. We must remember that horses are horses, and they have an inbuilt "flight reflex" that has kept them alive as a species. You can do all the work possible, and still, sometimes, it will be triggered. It may not even be the first ride when these things happen, as with this mare. It was the second ride. This mare is a sensitive, reactive mare, and when her flight reflex kicked in, it was quick and rather explosive. Once it was over, I needed to continue as if nothing had happened. There was no blaming her for it as it is a reflex, and although I had worked to help her to control it, in this instance, she couldn't. Grayson has not had this done before and after a member of my academy asked about how to work with her "whip-shy" horse I thought I would show how I do it. Desensitization is part of your horse training as it helps your horse to learn how to control himself when he becomes worried about something. Desensitization of the horse should be done by reading the horse. Cantering on a horse can be hard in the beginning but if you know how to find the correct position you will be doing it like a pro before you know it. This isn't a how-to canter for beginners video BUT the tip in it is just as useful for a beginner as for a more advanced rider. When I teach people how to canter on a horse this is one of the first tips I teach them (after they have their balance). Like most things horse-related it is all about horse rider position. Horses have an amazing memory and don't forget their prior training so it is just a matter of seeing where they are at.This video shows Ava's first time in the round yard after 3 and a bit years off, in the video, I say 2 1/2 years but I checked after I filmed and I am out by a year 🙄 it's actually 3 years 4 months 😳. I start with groundwork basics, these are groundwork exercises you would use with young horses, spooky horses or horses that need some ground manners.
