Final Fantasy XI: Corsair Guide
updated
Getting the Metal #E to drop from this thing has frustrated many, our group included, but thanks to more data becoming available I think it's been narrowed down.
RL has come at me hard and fast in the past two months but the immediate future looks less turbulent, so I'll get back into things. For now, here's a full Sortie run from yesterday from my, a Blue Mage's, perspective. Blue Mage really is one of the best jobs for this content given it's adaptability, DPS and crowd control. I think this is a good showcase of it being done well.
This run was far from perfect but we still got around 21k Gallimaufry.
...We just call them "Muffins".

I won't lie, Samurai took it's time winning me over. I guess the sight of so many Samurai players being the first ones to hit the floor as a tank made a really bad first impression. I decided to tackle it in earnest though, and this is the result.

Job adjustments might not happen for a while but there's always a chance they can. I really enjoy theorycrafting and here I've put some of my thoughts into words.
Hold TP and zerg the Cactus.
Any mage/support with /SCH can heal.
This is the err.... 'traditional' way of defeating Mboze, there is another strategy revolving around Rampart resets but I've never seen it done properly, but this does work... even if it's very tense the entire time.
Either use a RDM for Saboteur Gravity II or a BLU for Subduction (Elemental Seal). Have your PLD get and maintain hate on the Corse and then the Warders which it summons. Keep your distance, win.
Hopefully this helps groups struggling against it. I even give a brief breakdown of why Ongo is so difficult to damage.
I have a few things to say about the new Master Level system, some good... some not-so-good.
This is an incredible weapon, not without its flaws, but a legitimate game changer if/when it becomes obtainable by the masses.
Some of the entries this time are pretty obscure, but brilliant.

This is all subjective of course, it is not a be-all-end-all reflection on the state of the current meta; far from it.
I'm keen to hear what you all have to say about yours and why.

I'm currently on an Odyssey break but this was one of the last segment runs our group did before I went on said break. This was by no means a perfect run, we got Ameretats on an Agon Halo which caused one death and one of the Wasps got very lucky, causing another death. Still, despite all that we got out with just shy of 11,000 segments.
This video really highlights how good a Ninja can be in a segment farm. With proper gear it hits insanely hard, keeping up with traditional Heavy DPS, while also being extremely durable. It's important to know what targets resist which element, and then adjust your Hybrid weapon skill accordingly or just revert to physical. I have been putting together a list of my findings I have shared below.
Basically, don't be afraid to deviate from the traditional Heavy DPS; you might find yourself pleasantly surprised.
This guide took me a very long time to get together and it has been a very long time coming. There's a lot to break down, a lot to explain and a lot to demonstrate. Beastmaster is probably the rarest job in the game right now, largely because it's still got the persistent image of being a solo job only.

Of all the jobs that need patching this year Black Mage is easily atop the list. I go into why in this video.
This time we go into Blue Mage and Scholar.
The second installment in this mini-series. Other avatars which feature more prominently in main storylines will have more immersive footage to accompany them.

The original Recollection video was essentially a trailer for Final Fantasy XI featuring brief showcases of the jobs and snippets of the expansions released at the time of publication. This remake aims to emulate that but since there's a lot more of both in today's game this is substantially longer. The original Recollection was a lot faster paced and this was reflective of the time it was made. Cruia was making a tribute for a world in its hay-day while I am making one for a world which is now well and truly storied.
I may not do it justice here but I felt it needed to be done, if anything to show just how far Vana'Diel has come between 2005 and 2020. Just typing those dates now has made me realise how incredible it is that Final Fantasy XI is still going, and appreciate the players who remain and those who have come-and-gone all the more. A story is only as good as its cast after all.
Keep the lights shining bright everyone, and thank you to Square-Enix for continuing to give this community life.

Even after all this time I see group after group wiping to Kyou since they are not fully aware of its mechanics or how to defeat them. Let's see if this video can't help out there.
I've also included a hefty section on how Enmity mechanics work. It should clarify some of my decision making.
The real follow-up will come soon enough!
This isn't a straight-up X vs Y or Z vs X video, but comparing the attributes of the tanks will inevitably come up. This is more an informational guide on where each of the four main tank jobs currently is in the meta. The goal here is to help people see what they all bring to a group.
For a project of this scale, I understood that people just taking my word for it would be a bit much, so I reached out to some of the best players I've encountered on these jobs and had them chime in with their own thoughts. We don't necessarily agree on everything but hey, it engenders discussion so it's a win for everyone.
Now if you'll excuse me I'm off to play the FF7 Remake Demo!
I haven't done one of these for a while, not since I did one for Corsair well over a year ago. Dancer's undergone a renaissance of sorts with the updates it got last year and it's become quite the powerhouse. I will get around to its own job guide in the coming months I hope; Bard's guide took a lot out of me so I'd like a break for a few weeks.
The narration audio might be a little bit patchy at the start for some reason but it stabilizes soon enough. Odds are I might be upgrading all my gear before I do another guide, we'll have to see.
