Linking myself to a place I’ve never actually been too – a small village called Komi Kebir in what is now Northern Cyprus. The main protagonist, and to whom the stories entangle is a blacksmith called Kyriacos, and I am to believe my great-grandfather. From the loss of his father as a young child, a struggle ensued which was left to his knife wielding mother to ensure he could be sent away to receive an apprenticeship, which was pivotal to the life he eventually led but also broke him away from the tradition of following in his father’s footsteps as a farmer. Tube Train Moquette Seat Cover – Upholstering / Piccadilly Line / Stool Refurbishment Savvas Papasavva 2023-05-08 | In this video, where I develop a newfound respect for anyone who can upholster, I add wadding and the Piccadilly Line train moquette pattern (UPSIDE DOWN) onto an old high backed bar stool which I use while I edit. I also remodelled and 3D printed some spare clips for the stools seat. I wouldn’t call this upcycling project, and instead borrow a term from TFL – refurbishment. And yes, I know I put the moquette pattern upside down, but this is what happens when you try to do something for yourself afters spending a full day working in education.00:00 Materials I’ll be using thick needle wadding, a scrap bit of Piccadilly Line moquette that I bought from the Acton train depot, my old Ikea bar stool which I use as an editing chair. This is designed to be CNC cut out of 18mm MDF, and used to increase the work area which support large woodworking pieces. This is a no thrills, simple version with no additional features. Any jigs need can be mocked up specifically for the task or made as a separate attachment. There are thumb holes for lifting the disc out when necessary.01:26 CNC CAM Software – Vcarve ProI nest the parts which auto arranged them to make the most economical use of the material. I will also cut out an additional disc insert to have as a spare. I will need roughly 760x1220mm of 18mm MDF for this cutting job. The scraps from this job will go into a recycling box to use for smaller projects. I tool up my inside cuts first – using tabs for the larger opening within the top section. I set a last pass thickness of 1mm to clear out MDF dust from the cut line and minimise the amount I might get exposed to when cleaning up the pieces. Other important things to pay attention to include the cut line being on the correct side of the vectors, inside in this case, and to select a conventional direction for the cutting path. After which I tooled up the outside toolpaths, with 2-4 tabs per piece of ensure the objects don’t move when being cut free from the larger MDF workpiece.03:10 Toolpath SimulationIt can be a little boring watching a CNC montage, so I will not share that. But before any cut it is important to simulate the cut and try look for any anomalies. This can prevent you ruining a cutting job, wasting material, or damaging the CNC machine. 03:32 Assembly Process & InstallationI place the M12x50mm bolts into the metal sub-table slots and align the holes of the bottom MDF section. Ensuring the handle is clear of the MDF, I loosely hand tighten all four M12 nuts with their washers underneath. I then place the middle MDF section above the bottom, adjusting the washers slightly so the edge of both pieces become flush before clamping them in place and fully fastening using an impact driver. The original tripods was made from injection moulded plastic apart from the 1/4" threaded screw, and one of the legs broke off because the pivot mechanism was only a few mm thick. I decided to make a new one, using metal shelf pins to create the pivot for the legs. I CAD modelled the design and 3D Printed the parts with the first version only push fitting the two parts of the head sections together, thus popping apart when too much weight was added. The second version included through holes to secure parts together, but the legs were too short and projector became top heavy. I made subsequent versions with longer legs and protrusions on the legs to prevent them from being over extended when closed, which could damage the parts. Prusa Mini + / Squaring X Y Axis Skew Savvas Papasavva 2021-01-07 | Here's a quick video on squaring the X-Z section of the Prusa Mini to the Y axis. In particular the overhanging arm to the heated bed. For some reason this aspect of the assembly process is completely ignored in the manual - and while the printer makes aesthetically pleasing prints, and the first layer calibration and bed mesh levelling is great, it is difficult to get accurately square prints without performing these steps. Unfortunately I had to get rid of my older pieces of kit while moving up into this space but both these tools are much smaller. Turn a Photo into a Drawing / Diagram / Illustration Savvas Papasavva 2020-04-22 | In this video I demonstrate how I created an illustration from a photo of a tape measure which I then annotate. This is to use for instructional documentation and teaching material. I've made similar things for my CNC machine - however from 3D model I drew or built in virtual. The software I am using is called Fusion 360 - which I've become quite dependent on since learning. Once I have the vectors, I can export those into another software like illustrator or inkscape to add the final detail. If you want use the image in a document link word - save or export the vector as an .SVG file and import. In many western countries the trend of wearing masks is about protecting the individual wearer. Nurses and doctors are the exception, who wear masks knowing they are still at risk. But the idiot walking down the street is most likely doing it for their own selfish preservation. There is no cure. There is no quick fix. Just stay home and learn to do nothing.
