It has to be. The worst of human transgressions. notes on score for choreography I once watched a dance company during a rehearsal for an upcoming performance of similar content. The dancers wore emotive masks during their performance to enhance their movements, which struck me as angular and spasmodic. It was the music (piano) which made me curious as to why it was so distant; objective; unaffected. It was good score, but more or less represented the objectivity of a camera lens: an ice cold lyricism which could not be bothered with the passion of the dancers. My intent was to offer a complete, subjective interpretation while giving a choreographer some vivid elements to work with. We all have strong feelings about the worst of human transgressions. Madame von Meck succumbed to tuberculosis 2 months later. According to her daughter-in-law Anna von Meck, Nadezhda "did not endure" the composer's death. After years of epistolary passion (these letters are striking in their warmth and intimacy) there came pain and disillusionment until, finally, two hearts stopped beating. As for details of his relationships and death, there is enough unverified "evidence" to entice the usual advocacy journalists and historians, but not nearly enough verified information to arrive at any satisfactory conclusion. In memory of my father (anniversary) - enhanced with MS4 reverb to recreate sound of the church I attended as a youth. Written along with a 'Pie Jesu' (since orchestrated) the last week in August 1996 upon his passing, which inspired me to write this first piece since grad school in 1982. During Roman Catholic requiem services the 'In Paradisum' is sung as the departed's coffin is being carried out of the church. Traditionally the 'In Paradisum' is a Gregorian melody in mixolydian mode. Spurred on by high heat and humidity, with the aid of 3 well-placed fans and plenty of coffee, this piece wrote itself having been set up by ostinati, a primary chord and a familiar cadence...and a keen sense of the absurd. Hopefully fun to listen to and perform. ~~ The heat was responsible for the story: our hero Penne Vodka (no relation) was selling Italian ice in Spain when he became obsessed with a beautiful woman, who happened to be the daughter of the local alcalde, Don Pedro. In a desperate attempt to attract her attention he tried to learn to dance only to find out from Don Pedro: "That is not enough, Señor. You must fight "El Toro". "Who?" "The bull, Señor. " (Oh sh*t) After faking it a while he tried to escape, but there's nowhere to run in the ring. The bull became exhausted chasing him around. So did the equally exhausted 'cuadrilla' who assisted in disabling "El Toro" Olé!!! Standing triumphantly over the fallen bull, he decided to spare the beast and saluted the bewildered crowd. Therefore, my narrative is in accordance with the meaning of Christianity - Love and Forgiveness. In my rendering, Jesus of Nazareth, his Spirit ascending to the Father, saves the soul of Judas Iscariot from the wanton grasping of Satan, and carries it along with Him to Eternity. There are many theories as to why Judas betrayed his Master. If Jesus of Nazareth did indeed "ascend to the Father" it would be consistent with his teachings that He would forgive Judas and save the apostle's soul. #musescore #musesounds

As a Late 19th Century symphony I rely on old friends like modified sonata form and cyclical manipulation of motifs. Two primary motifs prevail: 1984 - scale steps 1,9,8,4 'fate' - the 4 note descending pattern Those and other motifs or themes appear throughout the symphony in various alterations. George Orwell's prophetic novel, 1984, was my inspiration. I'll not be specific. If you are good enough to listen to my work, I'll be good enough not to shovel my politics in your face. I.
