The colors on my Vixia are pretty bad in this video, but I'm pleased with how the recording from the microphone turned out.
Sick ACA Screamer S-5 Noon Blast - Canyon City, OR Siren Test UtahSirens 2023-04-25 | Was in the Sumpter area for a few days last week, had the choice between a Model 5, Weltex, Model 2, and a Screamer. I chose the Screamer, quite a bit of fun hearing this one. Bad start capacitors, but it did eventually get up to full pitch. Little bit quieter than a Model 5. If you listen closely you can hear tones coming from the siren box.

(Fixed Damper) Federal Signal 3T22 Noon Blast - Mapleton, UT Siren Test UtahSirens 2021-12-25 | Sorry for the terrible out of focus shot, the camera thought the mountain was more important for whatever reason.-Last time I was in Mapleton, I ran in to someone from the city who happened to be the guy who took care of this siren. After some coordination, we were able to schedule a day last weekend to go up in a bucket truck and remove the bottom damper plate. While the siren isn't fully functional (no fire signal), it is now at least sounding at full volume. We are arranging a day in the future to let the siren run a full test using all three signals, so we can assess the AF timer and RCM, and the possibility of sourcing parts for the bottom damper to make this siren fully functional again.Big thanks to Niel, Matthew, and Dayen for helping coordinate this, its nice to see one of these finally get fixed.
Recording Equipment Comparison for Siren Tests - Nikon B600 vs Vixia RF800 vs Sony Recorder UtahSirens 2021-12-19 | Nikon B600 - 0:00 - 2:05Canon Vixia RF800 - 2:06 - 4:11Sony ICD PX-470 - 4:12All audio was recorded from 250ft away.The Canon Vixia RF800 is a great low budget camera that can film 1080P 60FPS video, and has great audio. Not a great camera for stills, but gets the job done. The Nikon B600 costs quite a bit more, but takes amazing stills and has great video quality. I should note that the audio quality on the B600 is far worse, so a separate audio recorder is necessary. A good fairly low budget recorder is the Sony ICD PX-470. You can adjust the settings for whatever distance you are from the siren, which makes a great recorder for ambiences, and for close up audio. Definitely provides better audio than any of the cameras above.

I missed half of the first whoop signal because they tested 15 minutes early. I was able to salvage the audio to make it sound complete. Because of this, I was also unable to get a good video, so this recording is audio only.About a decade ago, when Tooele county removed half of their system, they donated a few units to Woodland Hills in neighboring Utah County. They use a similar testing pattern to Tooele County, except with a Utah county voice message, and a 3 minute test duration. Woodland Hills uses these sirens for forest fires, and tests them on the first Saturday of the month at (what should be) noon.

While it was dark, it was only 6:30, and the houses you see in the distance are a mile and a half away.The generator I used was a Honda EB3500, which just barely has enough grunt to run the Model 2, a contactor, and a light. The one on the left belongs to an enthusiast who stopped by, and the one on the right belongs to me. And yes, the siren on the left is only on 2 legs. The fire fighters beat it off the pole, which mangled the third leg. Until we can source a third leg, two will have to do. Sorry for the bad audio, this somehow managed to overload the Vixia's mic. We also had a third enthusiast here who stopped by with his dad to hear the siren! That was fun.

So, I call them again, and it turns out, it is now active, and used as a noon whistle. According to someone who was also visiting the siren, it was used to start the egg hunt on Easter, and has been going off at noon ever since. Not very often you hear a siren reactivated out of the blue like this, especially after sitting for almost 20 years.

I know it sounds waaay too high pitched to be running on the correct voltage, but at the same time, it could be running this high RPM so it can accommodate for the tiny vanes in the chopper. I tried it on 12V, and while it runs at around the same pitch as a Model A, it's really quiet.
