Deniz fits our Sena SRL3 units (because he’s fitted dozens and dozens and it took him minutes). Chris searches for boots and comes up empty handed. I collect my FORMA ADVENTURE TOURING boots and we both collect new FIVE mid-season gloves. While we’re away the postman has been with DOUBLETAKE adjustable mirrors to replace the OEM mirror, plus a couple of Insta360 X5 cameras plus motorcycle kits. NEW MOTORCYCLES - Whole NEW Ballgame | BMW F800GS | SBV Tools | LITELOCK and more......... The Sticky Beak 2025-05-25 | What is life without a MOTORCYCLE ! To Adelaide we went to see what the lead time was for the BMW F800GS and we find it all fits in with our ultimate aims and plans …… we haven’t got an exact delivery date as yet (which is a pain not having a motorcycle to ride around on), but these are the challenges we face. We’re in a bit of a hand tying situation selling the farm when we did and then finding buyers for both Kawasaki’s almost immediately (that wasn’t really the plan) anyway …….. It takes time to have things shipped from the USA, from Europe and from the UK. We could wait and buy some items in the UK but we have not made a 100% certain decision on the direction we’re going to take to get to Europe at the moment so we don’t want to be left trying to get items last minute. We have some massive plans for 2025 but first we need to “settle” the sale of the FARM and sell both of the Kawasaki Z650RS’s. I can tell you this is a sad moment. This bike is the best I’ve ever owned. If it weren’t for the fact “home” is going to look very different from this point onwards, we’d be keeping them but, sitting motorcycles in a shed for a long period of time is not ideal even inhibited and drained of their fluids, bikes are meant to be ridden. Thanks for a very quiet night at Breakfree Wirrina Cove. Incredibly quiet but surely it gets busy during a golf tournament right? We headed down to the marina where there are a number of private properties although I don’t envy them cleaning their windows of sea salt! It was pretty deserted and the coffee van appeared to be closed, so we decided to keep moving heading to Normanville where there is a whole raft of coffee shops and places for breakfast. You cant be serious right? | Motorcycles welcome or NOT! | WIRRINA COVE The Sticky Beak 2025-04-20 | We started the day at Delamere which was only 12 kilometres away from Wiring Cove. We thought about dropping in to Rapid Bay but having been there camping in the past we knew there wasn’t much to see except the long jetty and the camping site. We didn’t know what to expect at Wirrina Cove given the size of the complex and its 18 hole golf course. We were happy yet disappointed at the same time that so few people were staying there. It did mean though that at all times the resident kangaroos were happy to almost come right up to the room windows and hang out on the greens. As a result of so few people being booked in the menu was quite sparse and the bar also a bit under stocked. This Road is a COMPLETE joke for motorcycles | MYPONGA The Sticky Beak 2025-03-30 | Today’s ride - Victor Harbor to Yankalilla and Myponga. Haven’t been this way before and how beautiful it is. The road was desperately bad. Talk about uneven surface it just about shook me out of my seat at times! It was a lot cooler day which made for a really enjoyable ride. Apologies for the quality of the video. The first uploaded video had a sound fault. Somehow it had jumped to slow motion which dropped it down to 1080 instead of 4K. Apologies for this. Seriously dangerous to your motorcycle health | VICTOR HARBOR The Sticky Beak 2025-03-23 | Mount Compass to Victor Harbor on one of the hottest days of the year. It wasn’t supposed to be this way but a heatwave came in unexpectedly and when you’re on a tour, it’s just too bad if you get caught in bad weather. The forecast over the coming weeks was supposed to be mid twenties but Mother Nature had other ideas. This is also one of the downsides of wearing black which is a common colour for bike riding. I’m not sure why black is popular, maybe so it doesn’t show the road dirt, anyway I do feel a change of colours coming on when we move in to some new biking kit! For the fellas there is plenty of choice but for us women choice is really a dirty word when it comes to motorcycle clothes shopping. If you’ve for any suggestions stick them in the comments. Got a motorcycle? Doesn’t matter where JUST RIDE. | HINDMARSH ISLAND The Sticky Beak 2025-02-02 | Hindmarsh Island is a good 90 minutes away from where we currently live. Is it worth the ride? Well it’s a lot of straight and lengthy roads. Do I like straight roads - NO. But, every riding day is a good day right? YES. Hindmarsh Island was a big disappointment and is not in any way a tourist destination. I ended my Might Murray Paddle on the beach opposite the entrance to the ocean on Hindmarsh and that was my only previous visit. There is a bit of a marina and thee is a pub (for the residents?), but there isn’t much else for tourism. Unless of course people are renting out their marina waterside house as an AirBnB. Personally, it’s not really a location that would attract me for accomodation or a stay, because there isn’t anything much to do in the marina section except get out the kayak. For those living on one of the fingers of the marina maybe it’s a good quiet location but for anyone on the main road through, which is the road we took, it’s just a housing estate where the odd one or two houses have a view of the estuary or the river. Looking at the development plans however, in future, those views would well disappear as the rest of the housing lots are sold off. Anyway, the good part of this “look-see” is there is not reason to go back. Goolwa however has a lot to offer. Pubs, restaurants and cafes for starters, and a very good market. Ice Cold Frozen Fingers | Tasmania Ep 13 | Motorcycle Tour The Sticky Beak 2025-01-26 | The ferry docks in Geelong roughly at 5am. There’s just enough time for some breakfast if people are quick enough (we weren’t) and then it’s full speed to get everyone off the ship so it can turn around for another sailing. This meant we were riding off at 5:30am and it was frigid. I have “never” experienced temperatures this low in Australia. Almost as soon as we rode out on to land the frigid air hit. Riding in these conditions is dangerous. The fingers become numb and it becomes difficult to feel the levers, especially the clutch. It was also way too early for a coffee break unless we happened to pass a 24 hour cafe ……….From where we live in South Australia the riding time without stops is some 8 hours in total. While it is possible to do this in one day (we’ve driven to Melbourne in a day), it’s not safe to do so on a motorcycle as the levels of concentration need to be much higher. The unexpected F%^& UP | Devonport | Tasmania Ep 12 Motorcycle Tour The Sticky Beak 2025-01-19 | This is our last day on the island of TASMANIA and what a trip it has been. We’re leaving Low Head Pilot Station (what a location for an overnight or longer stay), and winding our way to Devonport, where the Spirit of Tasmania docks. We’re trying to spread the journey out by calling in to Deloraine and Sheffield on the way as coffee stops. 300 KMS Fuel Tank Range Right? | Tasmania Ep 10 | Motorcycle Tour The Sticky Beak 2025-01-05 | Leaving Weldborough the sun was shining and the air was crisp. Another amazing day in Tasmania. It felt like a tropical rainforest as we headed along the A3 towards Scottsdale. Ferns and palms along the side of the road. Twisty and winding tarmac is always a delight and breeze to ride. Our ultimate aim today - Launceston.Whenever I book accomodation I’m looking for a few things - value for money, food nearby or a supermarket on the way, secure car parking, easy access to the car park. These roads could kill you | Tasmania Ep 9 | Motorcycle Tour The Sticky Beak 2024-12-29 | Leaving the Beaumaris hotel for Weldborough. As some of the group hadn’t been to the Bay of Fires it was a quick refuel at St Helens and then out on the coast road to Binalong Bay for a quick “view” of the Bay. The bay is known for its blue water, pristine sandy beaches and the unusual red coloured rocks (lichens). Then it was back to St Helens and on to the A3 which goes all the way through to Launceston, heading for Weldborough via Pyengana and the cheese factory. The dairy is completely automatic when it comes to milking. The cows know when they need milking and make their way in to the milking shed where their collar indicates whether they have gone the required amount of time in between milking sessions. They then wander in to the stalls where robotic arms attach the milking cups. We did see a couple of farm hands on site who were cleaning and making sure everything was running smoothly. The dairy has a wonderful cafe with food and drinks on offer and of course cheese sales. Then we headed out back on to the A3 and the never ending twisty roads of Tasmania to our final destination which was only a very short 45 minutes further on.Another stunning and amazing day in Tasmania.———————We do this FULL TIME now and we’re really conscious of making interesting content. Leaving Maydena we head in to Hobart on a VERY wet and rainy day. It does eventually clear but not until we’ve all had a good soaking. If you thought twisty roads were tiring wait till you ride them in the rain!Tasmania is known for it’s rain which is why it is SO green all year round. Never let rain put you off a bike ride. As long as you have good quality tyres, your machine will take you through rain, hail, ice and snow. Episode 5 sees us ride from TARRALEAH hydroelectric power station and accomodation (pub and restaurant on site), to OUSE for fuel and breakfast, then through GRETNA and on to BRIDGEWATER where we can see the brand new linking bridge under construction, then to NEW NORFOLK for lunch before hitting the final 50 or so KMS to MAYDENA and our accomodation at the GIANTS TABLE & COTTAGES (also has a restaurant and pub onsite). Mentally exhausting roads | Tasmania Ep 4 | Motorcycle Tour The Sticky Beak 2024-11-24 | Have you watched the three previous videos in the TASMANIA series? Go watch them now - you won’t believe these roads. No wonder Charley Boorman (with COMPASS EXPEDITIONS MOTORCYCLE TOURS) keeps coming back to this island year after year, the roads are the BEST in the WORLD - no word of a lie. With so many bends and twists, concentration must be at 100%. There are rock falls, animals, and of course car drivers to content with. Each day is as exhausting as the previous day. Tired just watching the video? Imagine what we felt like at the end of each day! WOW, WOW, WOW.Episode 4 sees us ride from Strahan on the west coast, up to Queenstown (mining town) for lunch, then on to Lake St Clair (stunning natural beauty location) before yet more twisting roads to Tarraleah. The accomodation consists of a group of converted cottages and properties which were all built to house the workforce when the hydro-electric plant was commissioned in the 1930s. There is a cafe and restaurant / pub on site, and the outstanding natural beauty of the surrounding area is beyond words. Without stops, it’s a distance of 252kms over 3 hours. But Google maps doesn’t account for fuel stops, scenic viewpoint stops, loo breaks, lunches or any other stops along the way. The original plan was to call in to Table Mountain except there is so much to see there, that takes a whole day all on its own. So in the end we took the decision to miss it out this time and just enjoy some of the most incredible riding roads on planet earth. We thought the roads were incredible. Kicked off ferry at 5:30am WTF? | Tasmania Ep 2 | Motorcycle Tour The Sticky Beak 2024-11-10 | The weather didn’t get any warmer as we left the ship. Our journey took us from Devonport dock, to Penguin for breakfast, on to Burnie for fuel, a stop at Wynyard market, down to the beach at Boat Harbour and finally to Stanley and the famous rock outcropping called The Nut. Episode 2 is a lengthy journey of not too many kilometres, but another slog on straight roads. We covered some 140 kms and managed to stretch it out over 6 hours. Callington Adelaide Hills Gateway | Kawasaki Z650RS motorcycle #motovlog The Sticky Beak 2024-10-20 | This week we take a short trip in between ferocious bouts of massive local winds (what is going on with the weather!), to the small town of Callington which has more than a few attractions! It doesn’t have pub, but it does have a post office and a couple of cafes. It’s the same distance from Mount Barker as it is from Nairne and a good distance from Murray Bridge. Anyway…… there is a bit of Africa which is a major attraction for us. Any and every biker has a built in desire to ride to somewhere. OK so we can’t all afford to keep heading off for overnight stays, but we all seems to hanker after a cafe or a food outlet. In the UK it seems easy to find somewhere to ride to as there are motorbike cafes and retail outlets popping up everywhere, but in Australia, not so much and believe it or not dealerships are NOT allowed (in South Australia) to SELL vehicles (I kid you not). What’s your opinion on that Beaks? Can’t walk in to a motorcycle showroom on a Sunday for anything other than a coffee and as most bike shops don’t make any kind of money on the sale of coffee, that’s why they are not open to the public. You can buy booze, cigs, clothes, in fact anything except vehicles. Anyway - a short ride is better than no ride at all right? GALE FORCE WINDS | Kawasaki Z650RS motorcycle #motovlog The Sticky Beak 2024-10-13 | This week we ride from Angaston up to the Barossa Sculpture Park, through Eden Valley and Springton, and on to Mount Pleasant. The winds on the top are hurricane force which can lead to some interesting challenges with the drone. The tyres are definitely scrubbed in now and ready for Tasmania. It’s also fair to say the Kriega US30 bags have had their test run and passed with flying colours. We just need to make sure they are far enough back over the rear grab handle to give us enough space for our XL rear ends to fit on the bike. Whispering Wall | Angaston | Kawasaki Z650RS motorcycle #motovlog The Sticky Beak 2024-10-06 | This week we venture further afield to ensure the Pirelli’s are definitely scrubbed ready for Tasmania. It’s also a great opportunity to shake down the new Kriega US30’s. Have to say apart from not as many t-shirts or undies an overnight stay uses as much kit as a week away. Instead of the “usual” locations we head up to the Barossa wine region which is right at the top of the Adelaide Hills with an overnight at Angaston. It’s always good to find new places but it can be pretty costly. Hopefully we can get the subscriber numbers up so we can start to get even a small income from our motovlogs. We do this FULL TIME now and we’re really conscious of making interesting content. Pirelli Scrubbing | Kawasaki Z650RS motorcycle #motovlog The Sticky Beak 2024-09-29 | The weather in South Australia at the moment is mind glowingly bad. High winds and more high winds and extreme cold temperatures mean we have to take the sunny days when we get them. Trouble is standing still in the sun is one thing, riding a motorcycle at 110kph is something else. It’s only then we notice just how cold the wind chill is, no matter how hard the sun tries to warm us. As you can hear at the start of the video, we were competing in the shed with the wind blowing a gale in through the open doorway, and the birds taking shelter in the rafters. We did manage to get the Kriega US30 attachments sorted on Farmer Chris’s bike, and I managed to attach my bargain tank bag as well. I think I need some thick foam so I can craft padding for the drone but all in good time. It certainly seems to be comfortably and strongly attached. Having ridden an older BMW GS I didn’t really know what to expect. I already know the standard seat is way too high for me so had ordered a low seat for the test ride. Knowing this is one of the worst selling BMW GS bikes in this particular showroom and across Australia were my expectations too low? It seems the GS900 is THE way to go on Aussie roads given it’s superior off-road capabilities. So, was this bike a true donkey? Saved by SA Motorcycles | Kawasaki Z650RS motorcycle #motovlog The Sticky Beak 2024-09-08 | This week as a matter of urgency it’s time to find alternatives to the dangerously crap Dunlop Sportmax D214s which come as standard on the Z650RSs. Top of the list are Michelin Road 6 replacements. For the first time ever in 26 years of riding and motorcycle ownership, I’ve worn out the front tyre before the rear. Unheard of and somewhat worrying. While I’ve always ridden bikes to their “ability” but never really to the max, I can’t believe these tyres are so bad. They’re either super soft, or seriously thin. We must have reliable rubber for a tour of Tasmania so now is the time to put new boots on and bed them in.
