ADV Matt 2023-08-11 | With only a 120 miles to go out of a total of 1300 miles, on my Fourth of July weekend trip, I picked up a nail that obliterated the tube on my KTM 390 Adventure spoked wheels. Had these been tubeless it would have been a quick fix in the 95º heat, but since I am looking for the max adventure I run tubes (not really, just what I have). So here is a look at what it takes to change a tube on the side of the road in some of the hottest conditions. It was real treat after riding and camping in Virginia, Kentucky and Ohio, mostly in the rain. So if you are looking for max adventure, embrace the TUBES!

Yamaha T7 windscreen rescue on a budget. ADV Matt 2023-07-01 | In this video I detail how I installed the windscreen adjusters to get better wind protection and reduce buffeting on my 2022 Yamaha Tenere 700. After installing the windscreen adjusters I found an issue I really didn't like, both aesthetically and functionally, and that was the huge gap left below the windscreen when it is in the fully lifted position. I created a template and used a sheet of black plastic to cut out a windscreen backplate to protect the display and reduce the wind noise coming through the gapping hole under the windscreen. A KTM 390 Adventure. Add some growl to your bike (exhaust). ADV Matt 2023-05-11 | In this video I cover how I removed the stock muffler from my KTM 390 Adventure in favor of an aftermarket muffler. It made the bike louder but also gave it the growl or brap we all like from our bikes. There was a few issues mounting the new muffler that I covered. I did the best I could to measure the sound levels before and after this modification. I am glad I did this and I wish I had done it sooner.

I have ridden this bike just over 42k miles but in the last few years I started riding a light weight bike and found I enjoy riding the lighter bike more than the R1200GS. The BMW R1200GS is a premium bike with premium maintenance costs and repairs. It is know for its reliability, bet when things to break it is not cheap to fix. I have also found my riding style has changed over the past few years and I would not have ridden this bike in some of the places I have gone with the smaller bike. I don't want to change how I ride to fit this bike but instead replace this bike with something that fits my riding style better.

Oxford Heated Grips. A better way to do the install. ADV Matt 2023-02-21 | Oxford heated grips can be quite tight trying to install them on certain handlebars and throttle tubes. I have seen several install videos of people using install techniques that I would not use myself because of the potential damage that can occur to the throttle barrel and the handlebars. In this video I demonstrate how, with a little patience, the install can be pretty easy, but might take a little more time. Reliability Confidence Restored by BMW. R1200/1250 driveshaft modifications. ADV Matt 2023-02-11 | BMW shaft drive motorcycles, starting around the mid 2012 time frame, have had been suffering from drive shaft failures. The primarily affected the R1200/1250 GS/RT models. BMW looked at the problem and discovered an issue with the swing arm driveshaft assembly. Taking matters into its own hands, BMW issued a service bulletin for a modification to be made and, with enough mileage, driveshafts were replaced. A KTM 390 Adventure. Two year maintenance brakes pads/bleed. ADV Matt 2022-10-12 | In this video I cover changing the brake pads and bleeding the brakes on my KTM 390 Adventure. I have 22,500 miles on this bike and the back brake pads were looking pretty worn, so it was time for replacements. Since I was changing the rear pads I decided to change the front pads at the same time. The process is pretty easy but I learned a few new tricks you might find helpful if you want to do this yourself.

A KTM 390 Adventure - Big Bar Upgrade - Better Ergos ADV Matt 2022-07-01 | In this video I cover the installation of 1 1/8" handlebars on the KTM 390 Adventure. I chose a handlebar with less sweep to it and more of an enduro/motorcross feel. This provides more cockpit space on the bike and also allows for my wrists to be in a more comfortable position. Want to change tires? Try the Tusk Changer/Bead Breaker. ADV Matt 2022-06-25 | In this video I review the Tusk tire changing stand and bead breaker for the rider that has no experience changing tires but wants to do it themselves. This stand works as intended but has some limitations depending on your wheel axel size. Overall, it does make the tire change easier.

I did some camping and got freaked out by all of the warning signs for ticks. I also endured a major lightning and thunder storm for my first camping experience in Pennsylvania. The worst part the trip was suffering from significant monkey butt. The best part of the trip was doing it!
