The Flanderization of Stranger Things Ariana Alexis 2025-05-09 | The Stranger Things that everyone fell in love with in season 1 is not the one we know today.————————————In the year of our lord 2016, Stranger Things single-handedly tricked us into caring about Dungeons and Dragons and buying Eggos and made us all wish we were born in 1983. But that Stranger Things died in season 2.‘So what happened to Stranger Things between the beginning and the end of the show?’ you ask. Well, I don’t know about season 5 because it hasn’t come out yet. But I argue that, between season 1 and season 4, it was flanderized. Flanderization is often used as a derogatory term. It signals laziness on the part of the writers. And while I usually agree with that, like in the case of The Simpsons, I think it turned Stranger Things into the worst version of itself in season 3 but also led to its redemption in season 4.
