To overcome this, we are developing a new class of self-reconfigurable floor cleaning robot, hTetrakis made of tetriamonds (four equilateral triangles aligned along the edges) that adopt three distinct forms (‘I‘ ,‘ A‘ , and ‘U‘). These forms, when on a flat and rigid platform, have convex corners which help in covering convex and sharp corners.Tiling Paradigm for Robot Path PlanningMohan Rajesh Elara2018-07-11 | Whilst Polyomino tiling theory has been extensively studied as a branch of research in mathematics, its application has been largely confined to multimedia, graphics and gaming domains. In this video, we present a novel application of Tetrominoes tiling theory, a class of Polyomino with four cells in the context of a reconfigurable floor cleaning robot, hTetro.Mantis: An Agile Glass Facade Cleaning RobotMohan Rajesh Elara2018-07-03 | In this project, we are developing a new class of glass facade cleaning robots, Mantis that is capable of autonomously navigating over glass panels, avoid obstacles and cross over positive/negative obstaclessTetro: A Modular Reconfigurable Staircase Cleaning RobotMohan Rajesh Elara2018-03-08 | Due to faster pace of life in most developed world, floor cleaning is often seen as a dull, dirty, time consuming and tedious chore, giving rise to the development of robotic products for handling the cleaning task. Even though there exists numerous precedence demonstrating the benefits of floor cleaning robots, the conventional robots suffer from a series of performance issues that curtains their full potential. One major factor attributing to their performance loss is their inability to access staircases that form an integral part of every built infrastructure. Considering the crucial role staircases play and their permanent presence even after the advent of lifts and escalators virtually in every multi-story building, the subject of cleaning staircases has received so little attention from roboticists. What we want to achieve is to be able to extend the locomotion capabilities of these robots than it is currently feasible. Particularly, we are developing a new class of cleaning robots that are able to reconfigure between floor and staircase cleaning modes, thereby, maximizing task performance. In terms of design, we have two primary iterations so far. Our sTetro is able to autonomously map its environment using onboard sensors and navigate around the defined floor space to clean the environment efficiently. sTetro has terrain perception capability that detects the type of surface and/or staircase and generates the optimal suction power and sweeping velocity. sTetro's body consists of three cuboids connected with two sliders attached to each side of the middle cuboid. The hollow space within each cuboid encloses the electronics, vacuum suction and sweeping units. The blocks have a modular design, allowing many parts to be reused in the system. A smart application allows user to control the robot to start and stop, navigate to follow a defined trajectory and change operational settings. The reconfiguring mechanisms allows the robot to efficiently clean both flat floor and staircases at one go without any user intervention that is almost impossible for current day cleaning robots.Stallion: A Reconfigurable Wheel - Track RobotMohan Rajesh Elara2017-05-08 | A family of autonomous reconfigurable field robots, Stallion capable of hybridizing track and wheel locomotion for improved adaptability, mobility, and range of operation in urban reconnaissance missions.VeSuRo 2.xMohan Rajesh Elara2017-04-27 | VeSuRo is a reconfigurable modular robot developed at SUTD-MIT International Design Center for drainage inspection and vector surveillance.Scorpio Multi robot CooperationMohan Rajesh Elara2017-04-23 | This video demonstrates the terrain perception and multi-robot cooperation capabilities in our Scorpio robot at SUTD. However, the performance of such robot are still limited given the highly complex environment that they operate and their fixed morphologies. To this end, we are developing hTetro, a self reconfigurable robot that uses the principle of hinged dissection of polyominoes to transform itself into any of the seven one-sided tetrominoes, the Tetris pieces. The video here demonstrates the superior floor coverage performance of hTetro in comparison to a commercially successful floor cleaning robot. Our hTetro robot equipped with IR and bump sensors is able to map the environment and be able to transform into an optimal morphology to maximize the floor coverage area.RoboMods 5.1: A High Performance Bioinspired Legged RobotMohan Rajesh Elara2016-07-21 | RoboMods 5.1: A High Performance Bioinspired Legged RobotScorpio: A Bio-inspired Rolling-Crawling-Wall Climbing RobotMohan Rajesh Elara2016-06-16 | Scorpio: A Bio-inspired Reconfigurable Rolling-Crawling-Wall Climbing RobotScorpio: A Self-reconfigurable Rolling-Crawling-Climbing RobotMohan Rajesh Elara2016-06-15 | Scorpio: A Self-reconfigurable Rolling-Crawling-Climbing RobotWall climbing RobotMohan Rajesh Elara2016-05-26 | Wall climbing RobotRoboModsMohan Rajesh Elara2016-05-26 | RoboMods is a Jasen mechanism based underactuated robot developed at SUTD-MIT International Design Center.VeSuRoMohan Rajesh Elara2016-05-26 | VeSuRo is a reconfigurable modular robot developed at SUTD-MIT International Design Center for drainage inspection and vector surveillance.CNBC InterviewMohan Rajesh Elara2016-01-06 | ...Reconfigurable Jansen LegMohan Rajesh Elara2015-09-19 | This work presents a reconfigurable design approach to robotic Jasen mechanisms based legged locomotion that produces a wide variety of gait cycles, opening new possibilities for innovative applications.Hinged-Tetro: A Self-reconfigurable Floor Cleaning RobotMohan Rajesh Elara2015-09-19 | Hinged-Tetro is a self-reconfigurable vacuum cleaning robot that can transform itself into any of the seven one-sided tetrominoes to maximize cleaning performance.
