This will allow us to expand our hatchery, explore new coastal ARK sites, and reach even more people through community and school engagement.At Wildwood Devon, our hatchery has had a record year – with 59 berried females producing thousands of juveniles now swimming in our care. This success means we’re one step closer to securing a future for these incredible creatures, which are under serious threat from invasive species and habitat loss.With this next phase of funding, we’ll be able to grow the hatchery even further, make it more sustainable, and inspire local communities to get involved in protecting Devon’s rivers.A huge thank you to the players of the National Lottery for making this possible. From native planting and wildlife homes to creative features designed with biodiversity in mind, it's a space that shows how small changes can make a big difference.This project has been a true team effort. The beautiful stepping stones, wolf sculpture, bug hotel, bird box, bat box and bird table were all created by the talented art students of Canterbury College, led by Sarah Knowler and Frazer Doyle. Their creativity has brought the garden to life in the most imaginative way.Huge thanks go to Claire Bogan and her team at Fenwick, whose generous sponsorship made this project possible. Their commitment to community and conservation work has been incredible, and we’re proud to have them as partners.Behind the scenes, our dedicated ranger team worked hard to prepare the space...digging out tree roots, adjusting fencing, and even climbing trees to install bat boxes!! Meanwhile, under the guidance of our Senior Conservation Officer Hazel, a team of fantastic volunteers helped with planting, building the willow arch, and adding the finishing touches 🙏The launch couldn’t be better timed, as it coincides with Garden Wildlife Week, a nationwide celebration of the incredible species that can thrive in our gardens. BISON VACCINATION TRAINING 🦬 Wildwood Trust 2025-03-01 | One year at Wildwood – We catch up with Bison Fury & Haze! Fury & Haze have been at Wildwood for a year, and thanks to months of training, they’ve now been vaccinated in a stress-free way, by leaning in for their own injections.Becky Copland, our Animal Behaviour Management Officer, led the training, moving away from traditional darting, which can be stressful. “With our two new bison, we wanted to give them that extra level of choice,” Becky explains. “They now have control over the movement and procedure, making things much smoother for them.”The bison duo, who have been at the park for exactly a year, have now both been successfully vaccinated through this method.
