In today’s video, we will talk about the culprit of so many hard starts, failed starts, off-nominal mixture ratios, as well as rocket and spacecraft delays universally - propellant valves. And we will try to answer whether our home-built liquid oxygen valve prototype for our upcoming 100kN ethalox rocket engine can actually do its job under all the cryogenic pressure.

In this episode, we introduce you to Copenhagen Subrobitals' first-ever recruit project. To accelerate the Spica rocket production and introduce more people to liquid rocketry, we are helping a team of young future rocket engineers to design, build and launch their own Ethanol / Liquid Oxygen fueled rocket. This exercise will help them gain confidence and the required skills to work on the much larger Spica rocket in the near future.

In this video we pressure test our 3mm thick 304L stainless steel rocket propellant tanks for liquid oxygen (LOX) and ethanol to above their flight pressures to validate the tanks for flight as well as our automated TIG welding machine performance. In the process, we aim to deformation harden the 304L stainless steel to increase the volume of the tanks and their strength.

In this episode, we take a look at our coaxial swirl injector technology that we recently tested on our BPM-5 rocket engine and compared its performance to our old showerhead injector design. We had four brass rocket fuel injectors and one 3D metal-printed stainless steel injector on our rocket engine test stand. Here is a quick look at the combustion instability we saw while making mach, or shock diamonds this Easter.

And it is not just going to be a couple of test shots, it will be the busiest test weekend ever in CS history with 15 engine tests planned over two days!
The smaller BPM5 engine was born with a showerhead-style injector that has a few drawbacks, especially when you need to scale it up to a 100 kN version for the BPM100 engine. Thus, for quite a while now we have been working on coaxial swirler based injectors and we are now ready to test this in a static hot fire. We aim to test this injector type on small scale and thus we have developed a BPM5 sized injector with coaxial swirler elements. To really learn something about this type of injector we have actually made six different versions! They differ in a few key aspects:
1) Mixture ratio
2) Film cooling
3) Fabrication technology
The static test will naturally be streamed live on our YouTube channel and all of the test results will be posted right here, on our website http://www.copsub.com and our social media channels as soon as we have analyzed them.
So stay tuned for the busiest test campaign ever in CS history!

On November 7th we paid a visit to our good friends in Odense Faldskærms Center - a Danish skydiving club. Our goal was to return to testing and put one brave skydiver under four homemade Spica booster and space capsule parachutes to test their design and performance. We were lucky with the weather, but Murphy did not cooperate during our first test and we couldn't manage all the jumps we wanted.
