Guitar Hero - Laser Cannon Deth Sentence Expert/Expert+ Comparison
updated
Here's an updated version of this song that has keys. It also has auto-generated lower difficulties, overdrive, and updated Expert charts. I'm polishing some of my older works and submitting them to C3, so if anyone has a vote on what comes next, let me know.
Changelog:
Gameplay: Overdrive added
Guitar/Bass: Way less sustains, since before I didn't really reference any other materials and just did it by ear. There is less bass since it doesn't seem to actually exist in the intro/bridge section.
Drums: Added a lot of kicks that I missed, wrapped the toms a little differently. One snare added.
Vocals: One lyric correction.
Animation: Proper hand positions added.
Original Video: youtube.com/watch?v=3Ox3Vj5Cwg0
This shows the 2x Bass Pedal version but there is also a 1x version. Both have Keys/Pro Keys and auto-generated lower difficulties. You can download them both at C3:
http://customscreators.com/index.php?/page/index.html/_/sunshine-the-werewolf-r22539
The video does show the keyboard which fades in around 1:38.
As usual, I’m probably not revisiting this unless there's a particularly egregious error. You are free to download it, edit it, re-release it, whatever you want.

Drum chart and tempo map courtesy of Boodline. It is 95% his original chart but with some changes made for consistency, added overdrive and fills, and added a proper disco-flipped section. Not used with permission, so feel free to send me an angry message about this, but either way I admire your work.
Some initial drum work based on this drum track, which I don’t know if it’s authentic or not. It seems too perfect tempo-wise but with some kicks missing in the bridge which may have been added later in post. I dunno.

Keyboard based on this video of the original drummer of the song where he’s playing to the actual backing track solo’d out. Admittedly it is very hard to hear in the studio mix.

These things have always been mostly for show, but if anyone is actually interested in having the source for this let me know.
This is likely the last Rock Band thing I'm doing for the next year. Won't be around when the Rock Band Rivals expansion comes out but I wish it the best of luck and hope the online play community has revitalized (and not died) by next summer.
Tricky bits at 0:43 and 1:43.
(I was hoping I could use Xbox One's video record feature to do this but I guess the record labels said no)
This isn't a particularly impressive run of the song, just meant to show the chart in the new game.
My impressions on the game? I've only gotten to play vocals so far (waiting on my legacy adapter) so I haven't gotten to experience everything. Freestyle vocals is cool sometimes, though most times too rigid and my freestyles don't count for anything. As for everything else that I can access, seems like a stripped down game compared to Rock Band 3. Honestly unless they add some substantial improvements to at least get all the base level features that Rock Band 3 had, there's no reason to play this over Rock Band 3. No online play was a major blow to morale since I spent years making a website dedicated to people playing online.
Maybe drums and guitar will change my mind, we'll see.
Some of you may remember this song was one of my first customs 5+ years ago. When RB3 came out I got the idea to add keyboard and harmonies but never got around to it. Then rumors of The Fragile Surround Sound surfaced and I thought that would be a good time to do it with the aid of the separated tracks, but that never happened. Recently Mr. Reznor released instrumental versions of The Fragile tracks and I was like OKAY TIME TO DO IT NOW.
The pitch progression of the bass/guitar in this version is a lot more accurate than the first, has less unnecessary 3-note chords, and the vocals are less out of tune. In order to get around the problem where Trent Reznor's sing-yelling trails off and drops down, I simply didn't attempt to chart that at all.
I wanted the video to have the keyboard player and an actual non-musicvideo venue, so the least time consuming way to do that while still showing the bass chart was to overlay the keys chart with the bass chart. It's a little weird but easy to dinstinguish.
Includes all expert/pro charts.

Change List:
-Redid the tempo map.
-Completely reauthored expert drums/guitar/bass
-Incorporated the Rock Band Harmonies Project chart for the harmonies. I did not adjust it after doing the tempo map so it's possible some things are a bit off but it's pretty close.
-Adjusted the overdrive so that they made sense with the drums.
-Remastered the audio a little bit.
-Redid the venue animations
-Sorry, didn't do keys or touch the lower difficulties.

They will eventually have harmony parts out for all pre-RB3 songs and there's even instructions on how to install them with Title Update 5.

*Drums mistakes in video corrected in files: 2:39 crash, 1:02 snare
Special thanks to BravoGangUS09 for the video, I currently don't have any equipment and can't even figure out how to get into Audition Mode, so this is the best I could do. I noticed mistakes in the drums of this video but it's not like I can fix it and re-record, so here it is in all its imperfect glory. Will try to find an alternative to this in the future.
Here's my best crack at a translation, it's pretty abstract in some parts.
"How Am I a Friend" by Last Exhale
This speech is not written down
This monster is born
A new dream is realized
And it disappears before it has a chance to be
The ones who blames you didn't care
They stabbed you in the back
Your friends weren't around
Our friendship is on paper
And look to the left
There are cities collapsing
On my right is an investment
In the middle is a lone generation
You have to be loved
Damn
But your people are my consumption and fuel
I'm part of a whole
Isolated and selfish
I'm failing at the simplest thing
Being a friend
I'm unfocused
I'm so sorry
I'm nervous
I'm intoxicated
I'm worn down
What have I done to myself
I'm so angry
I was raised this way
I'm a grown man
This world is not for us!
If you didn't know about it, the project is trying to patch in keyboard and harmonies to old rock band songs that don't have them (they're about half way done), and you can get them working even with the latest title update for Rock Band 3.

Since I had such good source material I also took the time to give this overdrive. In addition, there's standard keys. Only Expert parts, though.
The tracks were not as good quality as the final studio version, so what we have here is the studio audio playing in the background with certain instrument parts overlayed with louder volume. So if you miss a note the audio won't cut out, but things like the bass and the parts I charted to keys are louder than they are in the studio version. The parts charted to keys are actually guitar parts with some weird effects applied to them.

Decided to do some (admittedly half-assed) vocals. The lead is pretty playable, harmony 2 is in the ballpark and harmony 3 may or may not be totally incorrect.

Here's my first draft. The charts were done from scratch though you'll notice similarities in the GH chart, I definitely used it as a guide. Interestingly enough, when I was analyzing the bass for this track there were some things that the GH chart did that were just objectively wrong. And of course, the keys chart is completely new.

You had all of them on your side
Didn't you? Didn't you?
You believed in all your lies
Didn't you? Didn't you?
The Ruiner's got a lot to prove he's got nothing to lose and now he made you believe
The Ruiner's your only friend well he's the living end and to the cattle he deceives
The raping of the innocent you know the Ruiner ruins everything he sees
Now the only pure thing left in my fucking world is wearing your disease
How'd you get so big?
How'd you get so strong?
How'd you get so hard?
How'd it get so long?
You had to give them all a sign
Didn't you? Didn't you?
You had to covet what was mine
Didn't you? Didn't you?
The Ruiner's a collector he's an infector serving his shit to his flies
Maybe there will come a day when those that you keep blind will suddenly realize
Maybe it's a part of me you took it to a place I hoped it would never go
And maybe that fucked me up much more than you'll ever know
How'd you get so big?
How'd you get so strong?
How'd you get so hard?
How'd it get so long?
What you gave to me
My perfect ring of scars
You know I can see
What you really are
You didn't hurt me nothing can hurt me
You didn't hurt me nothing can stop me now
He has a bunch of guitar covers, check 'em out.

Though I have separated stems for this it would be unethical to share it, so this RBA is equipped with the audio from the MP3 that you can get from his website.

Gunfire in the street
Where we used to meet
Echoes out a beat and the bass goes
Bomb right over my head
Step over the dead
Remember what you said
You know, the part about life
Is just a waking dream
Well I know what you mean
But that ain't how it seems right here right now
How can this be real
I can barely feel anymore
I am trying to see
I am trying to believe
This is not where I should be
I am trying to believe
Blood hardens in the sand
Cold metal in my hand
Hope you understand the way that things are gonna be
There's nowhere left to hide
'Cause God is on our side
I keep telling myself
Between joining the Marines and Rock Band dying, my fake plastic musician glory days are behind me. Had to quit the Rock Band Network, had to quit playing so much, the only thing I really have time for are casual play and partial customs like this one. Vocals take a long time to do so I likely will not chart that anymore. I hate the process of doing that anyway, even if I like the finished product. Just not worth the time.

Nothing suffocates you more than
The passing of everyday human events
And isolation is the oxygen mask
You make your children breathe in to survive
But I'm not a slave to a god that doesn't exist
And I'm not a slave to a world that doesn't give a shit
And when we were good
You just closed you eyes
So when we are bad
We'll scar your minds
Fight, fight, fight, fight
You'll never grow up to be a big Rock star
Celebrated victim of your fame
They'll just cut our wrists like cheap coupons
And say that death was on sale today
The death of one is a tragedy
The death of a million is just a statistic
I took 4 years of French in high school. I'm not fluent by any means but my reading and comprehension skills are pretty good. So, I thought I'd do something special to introduce this song to people who can't understand it.
This is a "natural" translation, which means it's not word-for-word (if you've ever used automatic online translators you know word-for-word translations are mostly useless), but it's pretty close to how someone would express the same ideas in English. Again, I'm not fluent, so pardon any mistakes.

Someone owes me a new keyboard.
I don't know why Dre's part doesn't lipsync in the first 35 seconds but it wasn't really worth figuring out. Also originally I had Harmony 3 charted to Lead so that the lyrics wouldn't conflict with each other in Em's verses, but at some point I forgot and changed it and now I don't feel like putting it back the way it was.
If you've enjoyed my customs you might be interested to know that I (and my team) will have a dozen or so official songs in the RBN music store in the coming months (I'll have teasers here and elsewhere when they're ready). And that's why I haven't been doing these as much anymore, as much time as it takes to make a custom, official RBN songs take much more time, since they have to be as perfect as possible.
I was thinking about revisiting We're In This Together eventually and putting out a Pro Keys chart for it, but that may or may not happen.
I can't link to RBA's anymore, but I will provide the MIDI here for educational purposes (you can compile it yourself if you really want):
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/11284391/customs/forgot.mid
You need to add 7 seconds and 164 milliseconds to the beginning of a Forgot About Dre audio file to sync it with this chart.
The blue/green cymbal pairing isn't that common and I hesitated when I saw it.
0:00 Underoath - Writings on the Wall
The hi-hat flip doesn't unflip.
0:20 Pixies - Debaser
Those yellow notes are high toms, but they're cymbals in the pro chart.
0:30 Avenged Sevenfold - Scream
Like Underoath, this one they just forgot to make the red and yellow switch.
1:05 Green Day - Homecoming
Here's my theory on this one... they did the disco flip on this snare roll so that players wouldn't fail out so easily. However, whoever charted the drums must have not been aware about RB3 Pro Drums, and didn't realize the implications of this action.

One of the hardest parts about doing 3-part harmonies is not getting distracted by the other voices. I need some noise-canceling headphones or something.
How to Do This:
1. You need 2-3 mics and some decent quality speakers. Plug one mic into your computer and one into your game console.
2. Go into vocal practice and sing a specific harmony part. Your console mic will tell you if you're singing it right, your computer mic should be recording your voice with a program like Audacity. Repeat until you have up to two of the parts recorded.
3. Paste one of the harmonies you recorded into the other recording, pan one channel left and one channel right. Plug in external speakers.
4. Play the song and try to start the recordings when the vocal part comes up. If you timed it right each speaker will be playing a different vocal part. If it's a 3-part harmony you can sing into a 3rd microphone live while the recordings are doing the other parts.

And that's the same guy that did this remix, actually.
Two sections I purposefully didn't sing in the original octave, one is at 1:06 where I can't sing that low (I can for most of it, but I can't go low enough to hit the very last syllable). The other is at the very end where it goes really high, I can't hold that pitch for that length of time.
Technically I could've done a quick activation at 3:47 and snagged 1st place / not wasted the overdrive.
Great harmonies song. I really like the way it turned out.
