In this short New Year reflection, we explore the deeper meaning behind these world-famous chimes – including the remarkable plaque inside the Elizabeth Tower that (1) sets words from Psalm 37 to the chimes, and (2) points to the musical source associated with the tune – Handel’s Messiah.
We also trace the message of hope that runs from Job’s cry, “I know that my Redeemer lives” (Job 19:25), to Handel’s Messiah (“I Know That My Redeemer Liveth”) – and into the everyday moments of 2026: the hospital room, the pressures and fears at work, and the battle with temptation – where we need steady words to cling to and a living hope to hold us.
A simple New Year’s resolution: memorise these words, so you can pray them – and teach them to your children, grandchildren, and Sunday school groups.
Words set to the Westminster Chimes (from the plaque inside the Elizabeth Tower): “All through this hour, Lord, be my guide, And by thy power, No foot shall slide.”
Scripture: • Job 19:25 • Psalm 37:23–24

All Souls Orchestra are thrilled to have the privilege of bringing its flagship event to the Royal Albert Hall on this auspicious day. We look forward to marking this once-in-a-lifetime national celebration with a joyful expression of music and worship. Following on from the Coronation Service earlier in the day, this majestic prom is the perfect way to round off a day to remember in central London.
Famous worldwide for a unique voice in music, the All Souls Orchestra has a longstanding residency at the Royal Albert Hall hosting an annual promenade concert, Prom Praise, which fuses a special partnership of classical and contemporary musicians for an evening of world-class music. Drawing on the rich historical tradition of Coronation music, the massed choir and orchestra will perform royal anthems and overtures by Elgar, Holst, Handel and John Williams.
With an Orchestra of 100 and The Coronation Prom Massed Choir filling the stage with special guests from across the Commonwealth, join us as we seek to honour our new King’s reign and celebrate the ‘King of kings’. The event will be broadcast online across the globe from the nation’s favourite concert hall, joining audiences from around the world to celebrate this special occasion together.
Rose Fatehi created a moving moment within the evening with this beautiful Farsi worship song. It was a real honour to have the opportunity to hear this song of hope for Iran at this deeply distressing and seemingly hopeless time. God is faithful and Christmas reminds us that He sent us Jesus, “Emmanuel, God with us”. We pray Iranians would know that He’s in complete control, and that He is good!
