First up, we stopped by the Sashco booth, where Zach shares his decade-long experience using Sashco products. He highlights the versatility of Big Stretch, particularly its usefulness in matching custom cabinets crown to the ceiling.
Next, we swung by the Velux booth, where we learned about their skylights' durability from Zach, who's been using their products for years. Their skylights are so reliable that Wade found original Velux skylights in a 38-year-old property he recently purchased in Vermont.
Moving on, we visited the Harvest Homes Company booth, where Lance impressed us with their customizable panelization system for floors and walls. They engineer the entire house, from foundation to roof trusses, offering efficiency and customization.
At the Da Vinci booth, Chris introduced us to their roofing materials, which mimic the look of slate and cedar but are made from durable polymer. These materials are designed to withstand the elements and hold their color long-term.
Finally, we explored the Vertex booth, where Josh showcased their range of trim products and siding solutions. Their products are designed for efficiency, durability, and ease of installation, making them a go-to choice for contractors.
Stay tuned for more in-depth videos on these products and techniques as we dive deeper into the world of construction innovation. Don't forget to subscribe for more updates and join us on Facebook and Instagram for behind-the-scenes content. Thanks for watching, and we'll see you next time on The Build Show!

The conversation starts with a discussion on the reasons behind the supply chain disruptions, including the unprecedented demand in the construction industry and other unforeseen issues. Les and Nathan explain the challenges they've faced, from raw material shortages to shipping delays, exacerbated by the recent Texas freeze.
Despite these challenges, Sashco's team has been working tirelessly to find alternative suppliers and manage the limited allocations they receive. They highlight the impact of these disruptions on the availability of products like sealants and the potential for widespread shortages.
Matt also shares anecdotes about the scarcity of construction materials, like drywall mud, illustrating the broader challenges faced by the industry. He emphasizes the importance of understanding different sealant technologies to navigate potential product substitutions.
Nathan breaks down the differences between reactive and evaporative sealants, explaining how each type cures and their respective properties. Reactive sealants cure by reacting with atmospheric moisture, resulting in a harder finish that may be less flexible. Evaporative sealants, on the other hand, dry through the evaporation of water or solvent, offering a more flexible finish that's easier to apply.
Throughout the episode, Les and Nathan provide valuable insights into the complexities of the construction supply chain and offer practical advice for contractors and builders facing product shortages. Tune in to the Build Show podcast to learn more about these issues and how they may affect your construction projects.

Matt recounts the tumultuous period during the 2007 recession when he faced financial turmoil due to speculative building projects. Despite initial success with his first two houses, the third project in a less desirable neighborhood proved disastrous. With the housing market crashing, Matt found himself in dire straits, juggling multiple projects and struggling to make ends meet.
Facing mounting debt and uncertainty, Matt reflects on the sleepless nights and tough decisions he had to make. He recalls the difficult conversations with his business partner, the stress of not knowing if he could make mortgage payments, and the weight of credit card debt. Despite these challenges, Matt persevered, eventually selling the speculative house at a significant loss but taking responsibility for his debts.
Through it all, Matt shares how faith, budgeting, and a commitment to paying back every cent helped him navigate through the toughest period of his career. His story serves as a testament to resilience and the importance of financial discipline in the construction industry.

This episode is sponsored by Builder First Source, now combined with BMC, offering over 500 locations serving builders and remodelers throughout the continental United States. As a longtime customer, I highly recommend reaching out to them for all your building material needs.
In this episode, Steve and I share insights from our years of experience in the building industry. We discuss the importance of making smart decisions that balance cost-effectiveness with high performance, particularly focusing on energy efficiency. Steve shares his experience in building his own house, highlighting key areas where he prioritized performance without breaking the bank.
One key aspect we touch on is the roofing system. Steve's house features a reflective roof with an air cavity underneath, helping to reduce heat gain and improve energy efficiency. He also invested in high-quality roofing materials that offer better durability and energy efficiency over time.
When it comes to wall insulation, Steve opted for a cost-effective approach using damp blown cellulose, combined with a commercial-grade Tyvek wrap and blue foam board on the exterior. While he considered more expensive foam insulation, he decided to prioritize water intrusion prevention and achieved excellent results.
In discussing the mechanical system, Steve focused on creating a tight building envelope with a conditioned attic space and hard, sealed metal ductwork. These choices not only enhance energy efficiency but also contribute to a more comfortable and healthy indoor environment.
Throughout the episode, we emphasize the importance of finding the right balance between cost and performance in building. While it's tempting to chase perfection, especially in high-end homes, we believe that achieving around 95-97% perfection is a more practical and cost-effective approach for most homeowners.
Join us as we explore these topics and more, offering valuable insights and practical tips for anyone involved in the building industry. Whether you're a builder, contractor, or homeowner, this episode has something for you. Tune in to learn how you can build a high-performance, cost-effective home that stands the test of time.

In the construction world, clients often come in with the mindset of getting three bids and choosing the cheapest option. But as builders, we know that the cheapest way isn't always the best way. It's about finding the right balance between cost and quality to ensure a successful project.
Joining me today is Steve Lesem, my Chief Operating Officer and a key player in my business. Steve brings a unique perspective, blending his engineering and financial background with a keen understanding of client communication.
We'll discuss how to educate clients about the importance of proper planning, material selection, and skilled subcontractors. It's not just about the materials; it's about how they're applied and who installs them. We'll share real-life examples and insights from our own experiences to illustrate the impact of these decisions on the long-term success of a project.
We'll also touch on the role of disclosures in setting proper expectations with clients. By being transparent about the downsides of certain choices, we can avoid misunderstandings and ensure that clients are making informed decisions.
So, if you're a builder or a client looking to build, this episode is packed with valuable insights to help you navigate the business of building. Stay tuned for a thought-provoking discussion that will change the way you approach your next construction project!

Matt emphasizes the importance of prioritizing construction fundamentals, particularly addressing water-related issues, which can lead to both energy efficiency and improved indoor air quality. He highlights the role of waterproofing systems in preventing water damage and mold growth, ultimately contributing to a healthier living environment.
While acknowledging the value of renewable energy sources like solar, Matt suggests that focusing on building an efficient, durable, and comfortable home should take precedence. He cautions against the overuse of the term "Net Zero," fearing that it may lose its meaning if not applied thoughtfully and comprehensively.
Through personal anecdotes and expert insights, Matt encourages builders and homeowners to consider the broader implications of Net Zero construction, aiming for homes that are not just energy-efficient, but also well-built and sustainable in the long term.
