I did not notice any problems with GM or GS devices except track 14. However track 8 is not entirely compatible with XG, after the composer message disappeared the channel 10, reserved for drums, switches to a regular instrument and it is not possible to change it back to drums. Everything is OK on SC-88. This track is from 1993, therefore I have decided to record it in 88's SC-55 compatibility mode. The SC-88 was released in 1994.

Hi-Octane is one of the few games fully utilizing the Soundblaster AWE 32/64 onboard memory. The soundbank BULLFROG.SBK fits the basic 512 kB onboard RAM and is preloaded during game boot. Frankly, the music in Hi-Octane has been optimized for the SB AWE soundcard series - all other music cards sound rather inferior (IMO) even when compared with more advanced stuff.
This is the short intro music. Compared are the Soundblaster AWE 64 and the famous NEC branded Yamaha DB60XG daughterboard attached to fullsize AWE 32 - two competitors in mid '90.
00:00 - Soundblaster AWE64 00:39 - NEC XR385 (Yamaha DB60XG)
Some(?) AWE32 and all AWE64 cards provide pseudo 3D effect, similar to Q Sound. Not recommended for headphones.

3Dfx 18:58
The 3Dfx version is very blurry, framerate is locked to 60, software rendering is not limited. The setup says 512x384 is the best resolution for 3Dfx. I have used 640x480 for both. My opinion is the 3Dfx version is inferior to the software rendering, especially if some higher resolutions are used. Notice poor 2D sprites on the accelerated version.Second Reality - PC vs C64Swampys Chest2013-03-27 | Second Reality by Future Crew and Smash Designs PC: AMD K6-II 550 Mhz, L1, L2 cache off 32 MB SDRAM VGA Tseng ET6000 2M Gravis Ultrasound MAX 1.8 VGA to S-Video
