The family vacation is over and we're ready to go back from Fort William (Scottish Highlands) to Greater London. It's an 880 kilometres / 550 miles journey, with some A and B roads first then plenty of motorway. We are in the Kona EV 65kWh with 17 inch wheels and the battery is fully charged before departure. We'll be stopping at the Ionity charging stations because they are very reasonably priced (with the monthly pass) and availability is normally ok although it can be tight on occasions. Let's have a look at this journey. The key metric will be how much time we were left waiting for the car. Do you end up losing no time at all, a little time, a lot of time. These are 'summer' conditions meaning others will be on the road for vacation too, but the temperatures in the low tens Celsius especially at the start, and it's raining for a good chunk of the trip, with some but not too much headwind.We will share other stats along the way, range, efficiency and finally costs of the journey. It was freezing then but the curve was as promised.How does it feel when you need a top-up on your way home. In this case it's a London-Bristol and back.Well it just delivers as anticipated all the more the battery is pre-conditioned with the helpful toggle in the car for conditioning.A 14mn stop adding 140km of range, hitting the 100kW is what's going on here. How much does that translate into range on a typical UK journey from city A to city B?Let's drive from 100% state of charge to as close to 0% as we can, in one go, to try and assess that capacity. This will serve as benchmark when looking to assess degradation of the battery when the car has tens of thousands of miles on the odometer. For today the car only has c3000 miles on the odometer, so while that's not exactly a brand new car, it's pretty close.
