updated 5 years ago
Backing Track from: youtube.com/watch?v=ssC1LqLv8Qk&ab_channel=MusicalBkgVocalParlor%28CLOSED%29
Thanks for watching!
Also! The family members likely do not sing backup to the ensemble members during their verse, but I thought I'd keep it in just in case you wanted that part too.
Anyway, with that, enjoy!
0:00 - Intro
0:08 - Pepa
1:26 - Félix
2:44 - Dolores
4:00 - Camilo
5:22 - Isabela
6:12 - Abuela
(Note that there isn't a gap for the second part of the dialogue)
Also, I know I messed up the lyrics in the beginning but I really didn't want to record again because this song really takes it out of you.
What are your opinions of my opinions? Let me know! I'd love to hear what you think.
Some small things:
1. I did not do the beatboxing part because.... yeah I'm not beatboxing sorry
2. I'm singing the bass part up the octave because surprise surprise, I'm not a bass. And I had to change a few things here are there to fit my range. But everything else is pretty similar to the original.
3. I learnt these parts from this super amazing helpful video that played all the parts separately while showing the sheet music. Please go check out that video and that channel because they've got heaps of videos laying out different Pentatonix songs. It's really great.

[Tootsie Noodles]
When they say you can't love, I think you've got it wrong
They say you can't feel, with a heart made of steel
But you can't say that steel ain't strong
Well if that's who you are, just a meaningless star in the sky
Tell me what is the meaning of what I am feeling if you are the reason why?
Now I may be dumb
But where I come from
Folks say they're fine when I know that they're blue
But you don't know you
The way I do
[Mega-Girl]
Your kind is frail and weak, and I want to destroy you all
You're a sorry disgrace, to the concept of race
And to logical science and law
But for some reason why, when you look at me I don't wanna be
Programmed this way, believe when I say
You're the one anomaly
You might not be smart
But there is a part of me
That's starting to make a break through
No, you don't know you
The way I do
[Tootsie Noodles (Mega-Girl)]
I never expected
(My wires are protected from abnormal things like you)
To find, someone like you
(When you know everything, it is suddenly strange when you don't have a clue!)
I don't know anything, but you're giving me a clue
[Tootsie Noodles & Mega-Girl]
I can see past, the, surface
Finding the worth that is hiding beneath
Your life, and, purpose
And all of a sudden I feel like I've run into something that no one has seen!
[February (Bug)]
You're perfect and wonderful
How I hoped you'd be
(February, I…)
But it's really enough
For you to be just a human being
(There's something I need to tell you…)
And I'll know you'll agree
That's all we need to make our dreams come true
(You're a dream come true, but I need to share something with you…)
If this life has ending, I'm glad that I'm spending this short little time with you
[February & Bug (Tootsie Noodles & Mega-Girl)]
I'm so much more, than what you've thought before
(So much more then what we have gotten too)
Now that we have got you too
[February (Tootsie Noodles & Mega-Girl)]
Get to know you
(You don't know you)
[Bug]
But you don't know me
[All]
The way I do…
ALICE:
Ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah
Ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah, ah
A woman waits for marriage
A woman waits for children
She waits for her big Mal to come back home
At five o'clock
Or six o'clock
'Til it's nine o'clock
And there's no o'clock to ease the pain
Pain she can't explain
As the woman waits in the dark
For a spark that once was there
That isn't there, not ever there!
Alone and
Waiting and wailing
Whining and waning
Wanting and wasting and woe
Waiting, fixating
Debating, lose weighting
Ice skating, lacating- and so
We wait to laugh
We wait to cry
We wait for every hopeful breath
Waiting for a lousy, rotting
Vicious, rancid, fetid
Frenzied, fatal death
[Verse 1: PORTIA]
I love Sidney and Marlowe and often I borrow
Their words to express how I feel
I love poems of mystery, fantasy, history
Oh, what seductive appeal
At night, alone in my bedroom
Satisfying my need
The candlelight fire ignites my desire
To read
[Pre-Chorus 1: PORTIA]
Oh
Every time I hear a perfect rhyme I get all tingly
Because I know
That to find a perfect rhyme is not an easy thing-ly
[Chorus 1: PORTIA]
I love the places that words let me go
I love the way that your words move me so
No words have touched me the way that yours do
And I love—
[Spoken: PORTIA (NIGEL)]
You are really doing something to me, Mr. Poetry Man
Oh, forgive me, I never get to discuss poems in this way
(Oh, it's ok, I just never knew that poetry could affect someone the way it affects me)
Me neither
[Verse 2: NIGEL (PORTIA)]
It's the end-all, the be-all, oh, you oughta see all
The books that I have on my shelf (Me too!)
(I find pleasure perusing those writings and musings)
(So often I pleasure myself)
(Wait, that didn't sound right)
No, I know what you mean
When I'm deep in the throes of impassionate prose
I could scream
[Spoken: PORTIA (NIGEL)]
You scream? (Yeah) So do I! AHH!
[Pre-Chorus 2: PORTIA (NIGEL)]
Oh
I love a lilting line of lyrical alliteration
(Who doesn't love alliteration?)
And then I'm like "woah"
When the phrases come together like a consummation
(It's sweet elation)
[Chorus 2: PORTIA & NIGEL]
I love the places that words let me go
I love the way that your words move me so
I love that you feel the same way I do
And I love
[Outro: PORTIA & NIGEL]
You know that I love
You know that I love
[Spoken: NIGEL]
Me too
[SHAKESPEARE]
My days are so busy, it's making me dizzy
There's so much I gotta do
There's lunches and meetings and poetry readings
And endless interviews
Gotta pose for a portrait and how I deplore
Sittin' there for eternity
Then it's off to the inn where my innkeeper friend
Wants to name a drink after me
Then it's back to my room, where I resume
My attempt to write a hit
Just me and my beer and the terrible fear
That I might be losing it
[SHAKESPEARE (MANSERVANTS)]
And it's hard (it's hard)
It's hard (it's hard)
[SHAKESPEARE & MANSERVANTS]
It's really, really hard
So very, very hard
[SHAKESPEARE (MANSERVANTS)]
I make it look easy but honey, believe me
It's hard (it's hard)
It's hard (it's hard)
It's so
[SHAKESPEARE & MANSERVANTS]
Incredibly hard
So inconceivably, unbelievably hard
[SHAKESPEARE]
It's hard to be the bard
(spoken)
Honestly, I don't know how I do it. There's only so much of me to go around
[SHAKESPEARE (MANSERVANTS)]
I've got so many fans with so many demands
I can hardly go take a piss (he can't pee)
Be it theater freak or the autograph-seeker
They all want a piece of this (gimme, gimme)
It's a cross that I bear, I'm like Jesus, I swear
It's a burden but I suffer through it (he is suffering)
It's all part of the game, the trappings of fame
But somebody's gotta do it (so he does it)
And I know, I know, I gotta go
And get back to my pen and ink
Oh, don't make me do it
Don't make me go through it
Can somebody get me a drink?
'Cause it's hard (it's hard)
It's hard (it's hard)
It's really, really hard (it's really hard)
[SHAKESPEARE & MANSERVANTS]
It's sexy but it's hard
[SHAKESPEARE (MANSERVANTS)]
This bar that I'm raising
To be this amazing!
It's hard (it's hard)
It's hard (it's hard)
It's so
[SHAKESPEARE & MANSERVANTS]
Annoyingly hard
So unavoidably, un-enjoyably hard
[SHAKESPEARE]
It's hard to be the bard, baby
(spoken)
Ugh. I know writing made me famous, but being famous is just so much more fun. You see...
(sung)
What people just don't understand
Is that writing's demanding
It's mentally challenging and it's a bore
It's such a chore
To sit in a room by yourself
Oh my god, I just hate it!
And you're trying to find an opening line
Or a brilliant idea and you're pacing the floor
And hoping for just a bit of divine intervention
That one little nugget, that one little spark
Then Eureka! You find it, you're ready to start
So now you can write, right? Wrong!
You're not even close, you remember that, damn it
Your play's gotta be in iambic pentameter!
So you write down a word but it's not the right word
So you try a new word but you hate the new word
And you need a good word but you can't find the word
Oh, where is it, what is it, what is it, where is it?
Blah-blah-blah, blah-blah-blah, blah-blah-blah, blah-ah-ha-ha—
[VALET, spoken]
Sir?
[SHAKESPEARE, spoken]
Hello!
[VALET, spoken]
You asked for information on what Nicholas Bottom is writing. Our spy is here with the news
[SHAKESPEARE, spoken]
Did he see me losing it?
[VALET, spoken]
He's half blind, sir
[SHAKESPEARE, spoken]
Oh, good. Then he only saw half of it. You see what I did? Ha ha...
[VALET, spoken]
Oh, yes, yes, yes, wonderful, ha ha
[SHAKESPEARE, spoken]
Speak, man. What news?
[EYEPATCH MAN, spoken]
I saw Nick Bottom, I did. He paid a soothsayer to foresee what Shakespeare's greatest play would be
[SHAKESPEARE, spoken]
That sneaky little thief! Why doesn't he come up with his own ideas!?
[MANSERVANTS]
It's hard
[SHAKESPEARE, spoken]
No, it is, isn't it?
[SHAKESPEARE (MANSERVANTS)]
It's really the worst (it's hard)
Makes me wonder why I didn't think of that first (it's hard)
Hard to alleviate the pressure to create (it's hard)
Hard to do something as good as the last thing I did that was already great (it's hard)
It's hard (so hard that he is stealing from the bard)
Well I'll hoist him by his petard
All that I need is a clever disguise (clever disguise)
I'll make him pay for his devious lies (devious lies)
Let him do all the tedious stuff
The work that's terribly and unbearably hard (oh, hard)
[SHAKESPEARE, spoken]
All right, Nick Bottom. I think Shakespeare needs to find out what Shakespeare's next big hit will be!
[SHAKESPEARE (MANSERVANTS)]
'Cause it's hard! (it's hard, it's totally hard)
It's hard! (it's hard, it's totally hard)
It's hard! (it's hard, it's totally hard)
Fortune and fame
Everyone knows my name
I can't help it, it's still freaking hard
[PRINCESS]
What will I do without you to guide me?
When I am lost, where will I turn?
So many doubts and fears inside me
I'm just a child, I've so much to learn
[JA'FAR]
You remind me of someone
I knew long ago
You have her eyes, you have her heart
That's why I love you so
And that's how I know
Somewhere deep within you
Like a tiny seed
Waiting to grow into a flower
You have the power to lead
You've done your best to heed me
But you don't need me as a guide
For it's been in you all along
The power inside
[PRINCESS]
If I do have power
Beyond what meets the eye
The source of all my hidden value
Is the morale you supply
If I'm capable of greatness
It's not innateness, don't you see?
You're the one who put it there
The power in me
[BOTH]
Do not be fooled by appearances
For though it may seem small
The power to love one another
Is the greatest power of all
No matter where life leads us
We'll never be apart
[JA'FAR]
Through thick and thin
[PRINCESS]
Success or ruin
[BOTH]
I'll carry you in my heart
And I will treasure forever
What the world will never see
[JA'FAR]
You are kind, and that's enough
[PRINCESS]
You're a diamond in the rough
[BOTH]
And you are the power
The power in me
The power in me...
[JA'FAR, spoken]
Now, Princess, what do you wish of me?
[PRINCESS, spoken]
I wish there was a way to end the war in Pik-Zahr Peacefully.
And I wish the kingdom had a sultan who would make it the happiest place on earth.
[JA'FAR, spoken]
What else?
[PRINCESS, sung]
I wish you didn't have to go
When our story's just begun
[JA'FAR, spoken]
I'm sorry princess, there are some wishes I cannot grant
[PRINCESS]
Then I wish you every happiness
[JA'FAR]
It is done
Sherrezade:
I know a thousand tales to fill a thousand nights
But now another story comes to mind
A noble, young vizier ascends to wondrous heights
He's brilliant as he's handsome, and handsome as he's kind
He is at once familiar and unknowable
To the frightened girl he meets along the way
And to the girl's surprise, something in his eyes
Beckons her to know him and inspires her to say
I want to know your story
I want to know your past
So tell me slowly from the start
Leave out no detail
Savour every part
I want to know your story
So make the story last
I want to know each twist and turn
Tell me all I've missed
I've so much to learn
For when it comes to stories
I thought I knew them all
Now I'm face to face with one
I can't seem to recall
Ja'far:
The young vizier had come to help inspire change
But fate had planned an unexpected twist
Within the palace walls he discovered something strange
And found the missing part of him he didn't know he missed
She is at once a comfort and a mystery
To the callow man she meets that fateful day
She's beautiful and wise, and something in her eyes
Beckons him to know her and inspires him to say
I want to know your story
I want to know your past
I want to know your future too
Fill my days and nights
With the tale of you
Ja'far + Sherrezade:
I want to know your story
(I want to know your story)
So make the story last
(So make the story...)
And...
Both:
...linger over every part
Tell it till I know
Every bit by heart
Ja'far:
I never cared for stories
Until you entered mine
Both:
And now my only wish is that
Our plots may intertwine
Ja'far:
But I forget what happens next
Sherrezade:
I'm not sure I understand
Ja'far:
Remind me how she answers
When he asks her for her hand?
Sherrezade:
(Spoken) Took you long enough
(Spoken) Yes, she says yes!
Both:
A thousand and one nights with you is not enough to spend
So let's make ours a story with no end
So let's make ours a story with no end...
Also RIP Cameron Boyce. Such a talent gone too soon.
Also this is different from my other one
