While remixing this one, I channeled my Let Me Hear remix for sure!Let's talk about the speed up to 195! I really wanted to attempt to make a Rawstyle song for the first time and this is what I came up with (the part after the breakcore when the gibberish screaming comes in). I took a lot of influence from a local act that goes by the name of Waterspirit. Please check out their stuff as it goes hella hard if you're into rawstyle / harcore music!When it came to making the original drop, I was really stumped as to what I wanted to do. I initially wanted to do a tearout house combo but I was having trouble getting it to sound the way I wanted it to. After giving up on the original concept, I played around with the existing sound design I made and found that when played melodically, it had this really cool rough texture to it! For the hardcore section, that kick synth was created by accident when I listened to an existing bass patch I already created. When I was listening to a bass synth I made in the chorus, I noticed how similar it sounded to a hardcore type synth so I edited it some more to make it really sound like a distorted kick synth and it turned out perfect!!! Also, I finally upgraded from Komplete 10 to Komplete 13 Ultimate and I used a new bass guitar and new strings! You can hear both in this song pretty boldly! I've heard it's a fun time!For the remix this time around, I stuck to the basics when I usually make a house type remix! However, I decided to use that sharp attack sound design trick I recently learned and made the chords in the chorus hit harder whenever they had fast patterns. I was really happy with the sound I was able to achieve using this technique and I'll continue to try to innovate my sound design in the future with it!For the drop section, I took the same concept but split the bass sound design to have the bass eq section dedicated to a saw bass and have another couple of synths dedicated to the mids and highs. I did this to have the bass frequencies full while I could do a lot more interesting stuff with the mids and highs like play melodies and do different sound design fills. Again, I used the hard attack trick here to let my sound design cut through the mix!The 2nd half of the drop goes into a breakbeat section with lots of plucks being introduced! I made this section with playing the track live in mind. During my AX show, I took the different plucks and assigned them to a pad on my Roland SPD-SX so that way I could play that section of the drop however I wanted! It turned out really cool in a live setting and I can't wait till I get to play this song again at a future show!Huge show out to Takara and Nyamai for pulling through with the awesome vocal performances! They made this track really shine in the end! They also blew away the rap section too!! My first JoJo remix!!I finally started watching the show around a month before Anime Expo so I took the opportunity to remix one of my favorite opening songs from the show to debut the song at my show for Trash Taste. I had such an amazing time making the drop for this one! The original drop had Joseph Jostar sound bites in there but I can't really license those to go on song distributors so I had to take them out and only have them when I play the song live. Overall though, I used a new technique of making pluck synths similar to making a kick in Serum to get a punchy sound to make the sound design in the drop and I am super excited to use this technique in future songs! Also, I've been using vocodex so much ever since I first started using it in the rumbling. You'll definitely hear more of it in future songs hahaFor the 2nd chorus I wanted the kick to stand out more so I went for a progressive house kind of chorus and it turned out really aggressive (the way I like it haha). BrokeN added in some extra oooo's during the bridge and it made that section perfect! Oh speaking of which, humongous shout out to the singer BrokeN! He is a long time collaborator on the channel and his vocals were the perfect type for this song!!Overall, I had so much fun making this song and I'm loving JoJo so far! I am currently in the 2nd half of Stardust Crusaders and it's been a blast so far! I actually prefer part 2 currently (though the n*zi stuff was really unneeded) and I've heard so much about part 4 so I can't wait for it! There are a couple more songs I'll be remixing in this genre so I'll get through those before I decide to spice things up hahahahaAnyways, I always love remixing songs in the 130 bpm range, so when Re:Zero came out with this opening, I knew I had to remix it!! One of the things I've been challenging myself with lately is extending my drops and working on more unique sound design while keeping the less is more concept in my mind. With songs like Life Will Change and this one, I wanted to make sure the drop section was fully fleshed out and I think both of the songs really turned out the way I wanted them to!For the drop section of the song, I've discovered a way to make really punchy bass plucks and I've been using this method a lot with my more recent unreleased projects! I can't wait to make a full on Psytrance song now that I understand how to make a more impactful attack on pluck bass designs! I've also been able to keep my mixes uniform with each other now that I found a consistent way to get cleaner mixes with a custom mixer template I made a couple months back. I've been able to control how busy the mix gets by routing everything into a separate master channel before going into the main master channel, that way I can lower the volume or add global effects on everything easier to reduce the amount of work the limiter has to do to get cleaner results. I'd love to stream sometime in the future to explain more about this but I am currently preparing for a secret show hehe. I really went for more of an atmospheric type of drop in this song to go for a "vibey" concept if that makes sense. At the time of starting the remix, I discovered Sewerslvt's music and their style really influenced what I wanted to do with the remix. Towards the end, I really wanted to make an upbeat rock section so I tried my best to make something similar! Because I love rhythm game music, I also added in a fast supersaw pattern on top of the drums and guitars lol.I took a lot longer to mix this song and it really paid off! I wanted to prioritize vocal clarity while still keeping the aggression with the song. What I did wrong in my last project (The Rumbling) was I didn't make room in the mix to have a very bass forward mix and this time around, I think was successful!!HUGE shoutout to the vocalist of the song! She really killed it on this one! THAT POWER!! I discovered her music a couple months back and I've been trying to figure out what song to feature her on and I thought this one would be perfect!
