Mike Smith (C) Two Minute Heroes 2020LockdownTwo Minute Heroes2020-03-30 | Sunday morning 9am on 29 March 2020 in a part of Burnley Lancashire. A ghost town. Since the government Lockdown became effective the previous Monday, there are no pubs, no clubs, no take-aways, no chippies, no barbers, no libraries, bookshops, no cake shops, no cafes, no museums, no cinemas, no football matches, no horse racing, no restaurants, (on the plus side theres no traffic, no pollution, no noise.) hardly any leisure left where you can socialise with others except to go for a (single) walk outside your home each day. This film was made on my government sanctioned, single walk per day , on the route I normally walk for the Sunday papers to Emma's News on Padiham Road. Today - with Boris Johnson for company.

Bob Lord was one of football's most outspoken characters who was chairman at Burnley Football Club from 1955 to 1981. Lord served on the Football League's Management Committee and by 1981, had become the Acting President. He also served on the Football Association management and was chairman of the FA Challenge Cup committee. He was actively involved in grass roots football through the Lancashire FA, where he became President. Robert William Lord was born in 1908 and built a huge meat empire serving customers and institutions across the North. In 1955 his wealth enabled him to become the major shareholder in his real love, Burnley FC and he was elected chairman. Following his outspoken comments on the game, he quickly established a reputation in the media as a blunt, awkward man who didn't suffer fools. But people who knew him, people who worked for him and many Burnley footballers, tell a different story. This short film looks back at the highlights of a real football character who is still talked about today. The Bob Lord: Burnley Born and Bred exhibition featuring photographs, and artefacts from the Lord years are on show at Towneley Hall in Burnley from 5th October 2019 until the 29th February 2020. The event brought together Douglas DC-3 / C-47 aircraft from all over the world, the largest number of Dakota's in the same place since D-Day. Many of the planes were themselves over 75 years old, several having taken part in dropping airborne troops into Normandy on the eve of D-Day the 6th of June 1944. On Daks Day-1, the planned parachute drop onto the airfield at Duxford was cancelled due to the ten knot sidewind. The following day the weather was much improved. In the afternoon the troops were briefed and prepared for their drop which was to take place over in Normandy around tea-time. The troops suited up, checked their gear and marched out to their aircraft. It was a real pleasure to see the troops and the planes set off and a great event which probably won't be repeated.
