From the story:โIn a piece of luggage investigators found โdozens of black socks containing pistols.โ The affidavit then says beneath the socks were several AR style and AK style rifles. In all, three rifles, 31 pistols and 121 rounds of ammunition were found. Investigators questions Williams and she told them sheโs paid to fly from Canada to the US where she travels to Toledo to meet a driver.She went on to say she accompanies the driver and various bags to New York state, leaves the bags at different locations in New York and then travels back to Canada through a port of entry land border crossing.Williams told investigators she was transporting something illegal across the U.S. and that the โproductโ was headed to Canada.The U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms tracks illegal firearms found in Canada that trace back to the U.S. In the last five years, the highest amount was 2019 when more than 7,000 guns were found. 911 Call: Gun Owner Defends Himself During Home Invasion (2019) CCFR 2023-08-16 | In 2019, a fearful homeowner called 911, just before 3AM, after he heard a window break and footsteps inside his home. A lawful gun owner in the state of Washington, he retrieved his phone, legal firearm, and hid in his bedroom closet anxiously waiting for police to arrive. Though he had immediately alerted the authorities, police were unable to make it to his home in the 4 mins it took for intruders to make their way from outside, to his bedroom. The confrontation was recorded in this bone-chilling 911 call. ๐๐ก๐๐ญ ๐๐ซ๐ ๐ญ๐ก๐ ๐๐๐ฅ๐-๐๐๐๐๐ง๐ฌ๐ ๐๐๐ฐ๐ฌ ๐ข๐ง ๐๐๐ฌ๐ก๐ข๐ง๐ ๐ญ๐จ๐ง? โWashington Law allows a person to use reasonable force to defend themselves when they are being attacked or have a reasonable belief that they are about to be attacked. A person may not use more force than is necessary given the situation. The law does not impose a duty to retreat. This means that if you are in your home, you do not have to try to escape the situation before defending yourself. This is otherwise called, the โStand Your Ground Ruleโ in Washington. Washington has a Castle Doctrine, also known as a castle law or a defense of habitation law, which is a legal doctrine that designates a person's abode or any legally occupied place (ie. vehicle or home) as a place in which that person has protections and immunities permitting them, in certain circumstances, to use force to defense against an intruder, free of legal liability. This can include, in some circumstances, deadly force.โ ๐๐ก๐๐ญ ๐๐ซ๐ ๐ญ๐ก๐ ๐๐๐ฅ๐-๐๐๐๐๐ง๐๐ ๐๐๐ฐ๐ฌ ๐ข๐ง ๐๐๐ง๐๐๐? In #Canada, our right to lawfully defend ourselves (or our loved ones) is defined under Section 34 of The Criminal Code. โUnder the law, we can defend ourselves with reasonable force if we are physically attacked or if we have good reason to believe that a person is going to use force against us or against another person, such as a family member. However, our actions must be solely for the purpose of defending or protecting ourselves from harm. For example, if we continue to strike someone who is no longer a threat, then that action would not be perceived as lawful.โ Section 35 of The Criminal Code defines โour rights with respect to defending our property. If we believe, on reasonable grounds, that someone is unlawfully entering our property or about to damage it, we can take reasonable actions to prevent the person from entering our property, prevent them from stealing or damaging our property, and to physically remove them from our property. This means grabbing an intruder or burglar and knocking them down would be a reasonable defence, but shooting them would be deemed unreasonable.
