Soon we realized the need to do more than just connect people and that those who need us most spanned across all seven continents. So in 2010, we transformed into a petition website, and in 2012, we expanded to 18 countries in 18 months!
Here we are 10 years later and the impact of people power, YOUR power, speaks for itself.Make change in 2022Change.org2022-03-14 | Change.org/StartAPetitionA Message for CT LawmakersChange.org2022-02-22 | ...You can create change in 2022. The book is a gripping account of the journey of 11 powerful Indian women who are changing the face of India. The stories inspire and the message is clear -- ordinary citizens are capable of deep and impactful change if they have the right tools and support. Through their activism journeys, these women created campaigns, propelled by the #SheCreatesChange programme.Their messages created extraordinary progress and some of the most impactful hashtags in the social media space.
Almas's campaign, Make Chutki Stronger, which she began in 2019, asked the producers of a popular kids’ TV show called ‘Chhota Bheem’ to make the character of Chutki a better role model for young children in India and to give her her own show. Chutki was usually portrayed stereotypically as the girl who would tire easily, cook and clean and couldn’t keep up with the boys. The producers quickly responded to Almas’ campaign and started work on a spin-off show for Chutki.
Also in 2019, Sweta ran the Mumbai Marathon and noticed that male runners were publicly urinating along the marathon route. She started a petition to the organisers and they responded saying they would create better policies to ensure this does not happen again.
The hashtags #BattiJalao #GlassHalfFull #AllShadesAreLovely #SwachhMarathon #PeriodsPeCharcha #MakeChutkiStronger #WomenNotObjects #CleanTheMess #ProtectOurKids #PassportReform #PampersPapaToo #MaternityBill #EndFGM gathered momentum and led to sustainable change and a brighter future for us all. These women are pushing back and creating a new India that is turning power on its head.

When the Biden administration announced its Covid task-force to tackle the pandemic, she was disappointed to see that it didn’t include a critical voice from the frontlines - that of a nurse. So she petitioned the administration to change that. And won!
When we visited her at home in Long Island, NY she spoke about the importance of the victory, but also the significance of the elected nurse being a black woman. Black communities were disproportionately affected by the pandemic and according to data from John Hopkins University, were as much as three times more likely to die from Covid.
She added, “When I heard about the issue with the task force. I really wasn't quite sure what to do. I'm just a single person, but I thought about it and I said, there's got to be more people that feel like me. Even if I can get just a few signatures, our collective voices might make more of an impact.”
And she was right.
More than 70,000 people have turned to Change.org to wield the power of collective action to create change in their communities.NPC / Save Our MedicineChange.org2021-10-21 | Change.org/SaveOurMedicineGreen meat petition victories help our planetChange.org2021-09-15 | Plant-based alternatives to beef and dairy are a growing part of the conscious food movement. Research suggests that a shift towards a more plant-rich diet could cut our carbon footprint, and help save precious natural resources like rainforests and water.
Lana started a petition calling for Starbucks to introduce a plant-based breakfast sandwich that amassed almost 20,000 signatures. And they won!
But she’s not stopping there. After the success of her Starbucks petition victory, Lana has created a petition asking Wendy’s to expand their menu too. And almost 250,000 signers have added their name to Kathy’s petition calling on the world’s biggest fast-food chain, McDonalds, to add a plant-based alternative to their menu.
There is a huge movement happening on Change.org, driven by petition starters like Lana and thousands of signers, demanding food that is better for their health, the planet and animal welfare.

Glenn Burke Pride NightChange.org2021-07-12 | Petition starter Sterling Hardaway fought to honor and celebrate an athlete often overlooked in baseball history. Sterling is an MLB fan who campaigned for the Oakland Athletics to honor Glenn Burke – the first openly gay player in Major League Baseball. And he won.
Glenn Burke was a trailblazing, openly-gay African-American outfielder who played for the Oakland A’s in the late 1970s. Burke was later forced out of a league that was not ready to accept LBGTQI athletes. But thanks to Sterling’s campaign, The Oakland A’s have renamed their annual pride celebration the ‘Glenn Burke Pride Night’.
