We’ve had a few long overdue models, like the Pentaceratops and Edmontonia. Today is a bit of an unusual one. It’s a stegosaur, but more precisely a dacentrurine stegosaur. And in fact, the namesake of that group!The colours are really nice, especially in the plates as befits the model of such an animals. We see definite improvements in the paint application especially in the body, and the sculpting is HLG’s usual standard. 256: Haolonggood Allosaurus (2023) Review DinosDragons 2023-07-28 | Well finally, Haolonggood has decided to give us a theropod! After a string of excellent herbivores, this Allosaurus mixes things up a bit. This is a bit of a mixed bag for me. HLG has given it the kind of scale detail and also paint application you would expect. On its own it looks great. However, compared to the colours on the release images, it may disappoint some. 255: PNSO Albertosaurus (Wally 2023) Review DinosDragons 2023-07-19 | Well, another tyrannosaurid from PNSO as expected, but what a choice! This is Albertosaurus, the namesake of the albertosaurine clade, and one that I have wanted for a very long time. And here PNSO gives it to us. This is a special model, adding a very important member to the entire tyrannosaur line, and the level of sculpting quality of course, honours that. What’s even more special is the pose. This is one dynamic running pose that is really cool to look at, and even more, capable of self standing without external support. Of course, you need the stand longterm, but just being able to manage it is a shock. 249: PNSO Lythronax (Keynes 2023) Review DinosDragons 2023-06-20 | Here we have the other of the tyrannosaurid double release from PNSO. And this one is a true BEAUTY. We’re on the same track as the carcharodontosaurids, and it looks like a stream of tyrannosaurids. So the Daspletosaurus was a downer if the paint application portended of things to come, colour wise. Fortunately, Lythronax throws that out the window. The beautiful paint colours and application are masterfully done as per PNSO’s usual standard, and it is so pleasing to the eye I can hardly believe it’s on a tyrannosaurid. It’s as beautiful as the Zhuchengtyrannus, and both go very well together. This model captures the important features of this interesting tyrannosaurid, and it certainly is a good continuation of PNSO’s current run. 245: PNSO Tyrannosaurus Rex (Cameron 2023) Part 1 DinosDragons 2023-06-06 | PNSO is back again and they’re doing so by dropping what for many people will be their flagship dinosaur – A Tyrannosaurus Rex!It’s been a while since we saw a T Rex. We had the wonderful Wilson a couple of years ago, and then Andrea. But what was missing since the Tarbosaurus was a T Rex with the new improved integument. Now PNSO gives us an adult male T Rex, in this badass Cameron. All the improved detail that PNSO has honed in their sculpts is now manifest in Cameron, and it my opinion it’s the best T Rex they have done. The detail and the paint is sublime and truly does this tyrant king justice. Needless to say, there’s plenty to say about this model. This is part 1 where we take a general look at Cameron itself. 241: Halonggood (好龙谷) Pentaceratops (2023) Review DinosDragons 2023-05-03 | There are some dinosaurs that have been pretty well-known for a while, with decent fossil remains, but for unfathomable reasons haven’t had a model made by one of the usual suspects. Pentaceratops is one such dinosaur. Originally thought to have extra long epijugals that merit the description of “five-horned”, we now know that this wasn’t very unusual among ceratopsians. Still, one thing sticks out… that incredible long frill and resulting tall head. Finally, we have a nice representation from Haolonggood, and hence, my very first Pentaceratops model. Over the years it’s been my privilege to get to know different artists all over the world. De CLAY Studio hails from Hanoi, Vietnam, making it my first connection in the area. They produce prehistoric fauna in the 1:20 and 1:35 scales, and while this T Rex is available in 1:20, I prefer the smaller scale especially due to lack of space. The most striking effect of this model are the amazing colours. The sheer complexity and translucency of the layers is amazing to behold, and help create something out of living flesh and blood. 239: McFarlane Series 7 Warrior Dragon Revisit DinosDragons 2023-04-22 | Here’s a blast from the past! It hardly seems like it these days, but this channel is devoted to both my dinosaurs 𝘢𝘯𝘥 dragons! The deluge of dinosaurs especially from PNSO and recently, Haolonggood has made it more like a dinosaur channel, and I wanted to get a dragon in. Particularly, I’ve been wanting to revisit some of my favourite McFarlane Dragons. So here’s my very first (or at least the first I bought for myself!). This is the McFarlane Series 7 Warrior Dragon repaint, and I got it because I wanted something as close to a ‘traditional’ D&D Dragon as possible. As you’ll see, both the colour and the detail are outstanding, and the touches and quirks added to the sculpt to make the animal itself seem real. It’s the perfect introduction to the world of McFarlane dragons. It’s wonderful what was produced way back in 2007, which is about 15 years ago. But sad because it shows how so many models today have fallen in both quality and paint applications, and yet charging even more than that. 238: Haolonggood Tianzhenosaurus (Orange and Green variants) Review DinosDragons 2023-04-17 | As if their last two offerings - Nasutoceratops and Ouranosaurus - were not enough, Haolonggu returns with a hat trick in rapid fashion, giving us the Chinese ankylosaurid Tianzhenosaurus. A rarely mentioned genus, this dinosaur was a little one that has tantalizingly complete remains, and yet never properly figured in the original paper. But Haolonggu have nonetheless brought their skill in sculpt and paint to this animal, and the result is a pair of truly pleasing specimens that look as good as their last two. We've seen the Deluxe T Rex a year ago, and this time round, we have the Deluze Triceratops. The way flat pieces can be used to create a three-dimensional animal like Triceratops, with many curved surfaces is challenginb, but one that WAM has taken by the horns. 236: PNSO Mapusaurus (Mila 2023) Review DinosDragons 2023-03-31 | PNSO is back again and it seems like they never left, because after Meraxes, we have again another carcharodontosaurid, our third in a row ! This is the one carcharodontosaurid I would have expected earlier given it’s rather well-known. Say hello to Mila the Mapusaurus!When PNSO dropped Meraxes on us, we were stunned by the beautiful paint application and unique design, a far cry from their usual stripes and earth tones. This time, Mapusaurus proves that wasn’t a fluke with a beauty of a pattern and colour scheme. There is of course, PNSO’s usual attention to detail, and such a prominent carcharodontosaurid is given due justice in this wonderful sculpt. With this Mapusaurus, it would seem that most of the more popular members of the clade have been fleshed out. Will we get Concavenator next? 235: GR Toys/ Haolonggood Ouranosaurus Review DinosDragons 2023-03-27 | Here’s a dinosaur I was expecting PNSO to give us first, but not only has this first mover position been claimed by GR Toys, it comes just one week after they gave us their wonderful Nasutoceratopses!GR Toys seems to be moving full steam ahead, and this time round we have the very welcome hadrosauriform dinosaur Ouranosaurus. This ornithopod has been a mainstay in children’s books for year, yet till now, hasn’t had a good representative. The head and the sail are captured very nicely, and even though the hands leave room for improvement, the colours! Those wonderful colours! They are a wonderful example of how sculpt, paint application, and price and work together to create something nice yet affordable in this hobby. 231: PNSO Meraxes (Mungo 2023) Review (Plus: tiny dinosaur arms!) DinosDragons 2023-03-10 | Last PNSO, we reviewed the version 2.0 Giganotosaurus. In that video, I briefly mentioned that the new iteration used elements of the newly discovered carcharodontosaurid Meraxes. Well, who should PNSO immediately follow that release with, than Meraxes itself!Named after the dragon of Game of Thrones fame, this is a carcharodontosaurid that is unusual for preserving two often fragmentary areas in carcharodontosaurids: the head, and the forelimbs. And having enough of these two makes for a good representation, as well as help tremendously in filling in the other carcharodontosaurids for the future. But the most important thing for many fans will be nothing to do with the dinosaur itself, but the COLOUR! And a real BEAUTY it is. Gone is the age-old traditional simple stripe on earth colours that seems to stamp almost all of PNSO’s past offerings. Fresh off the Chinese New Year break, PNSO starts big by giving us an update of one of the largest theropods ever – Giganotosaurus!Lucas version 2 has some important anatomical updates that brings the form of the head more in line with current belief, such as the inferior skull margin and the proportions of the preorbital area. Honouring the general pattern and colour palette of Lucas version 1, this refresh brings with it the current aesthetic in sculpt detail and paint application characteristic of PNSO’s newest offerings. 228: Era Terra Patagotitan (by Ademar Pereira Do Nascimento) Review DinosDragons 2023-01-27 | 17 years ago, I had an impossible dream. A dream that went from a 1:40 scale of the biggest dinosaur of them all, the Argentinosaurus, to an even greedier 1:35. Well obviously, that was a dream that would never be fulfilled… until now. This is the Era Terra 1:35 Patagotitan, a very strong contender for title of biggest sauropod ever. While Argentinosaurus still wins in certain measurements, Patagotitan is even ‘better’ in the sense that it is known from far more complete remains. So in a very real sense, this huge model has fulfilled that dream. There’s just so much to say about this model, that it would be best to just watch the video. Know however that the detail, the background research, the paint application, and the 𝗦𝗜𝗭𝗘 make it something I can’t keep off my already cramped and crowded table. Needless to say, there’s planty to show about this model, as well as to say about the science! So this is going to be one long video. 227 Rebor Deinosuchus (Estuary variant) Review DinosDragons 2023-01-03 | Having looked at the Swamp version of Rebor’s Deinosuchus, we know have the Estuary. You will see a definite difference in contrast and colour. While the Swamp has a more youngish feel, the Estuary looks more ancient and will actually be more pleasing for someone who wants something older and more forbidding. The detail is the same as the Swamp, being the same mould, but the colour make them look very different, and that’s one nice thing about these variants. The Appalachiosaurus accessory is also differently coloured as you can see, and you’ll see how that differs from the Swamp’s, and how different paintjobs can still look cool. It’s the Terrible Crocodile itself… Deinosuchus!Crocs are so much a part of the landscape in any dino lover’s mind, that it’s surprising that more of them haven’t been offered. And of all the crocs, the most dangerous badass most people would be thinking of would be Deinosuchus. Forget Sarcosuchus or Purussauraus. This one is truly the one people think of when they think of prehistoric dino! As often the case with Rebor offerings, there are two variants. In this video, I bring you the Swamp variant of this terrible reptile. Rebor has brought us real gems of more scientifically accurate models of late. 225: Sensen Studio River Scene Set B (Diabloceratops Medusaceratops Spiclypeus) Review DinosDragons 2023-01-01 | For Part 2 of my New Year 2023 Special, I present the incredible Set B from Sensen Studio's River Scene Diorama. We've seen in Set A how nicely sculpted and painted the Avaceratops were, and now Sensen Studio brings that to bear on a set that includes Diabloceratops, Medusaceratops and Spiclypeus! 2022 was a struggle for many, and I hope that 2023 will be a year of emergence from that. These dinosaurs symbolize that for me. I love this set for the realism, which is achieved by amazing sculpt work and beautiful paint application, even for the tiny babies. But it depicts something that happens in life: Life itself. Trials and tribulations, they are always there to challenge us. So Life will always be a constant struggle. But strive and struggle we must, if we ever hope to reach safe shores again. 224: Sensen River Scene Set A (Avaceratops) Review DinosDragons 2023-01-01 | Happy New Year 2023 my friends! For my new year special, I couldn’t think of a better dinosaur to review than this diorama from Sensen Studio. The theme of struggle and drowning is a timely one after a very turbulent 2022, and I think this diorama captures that idea well. The Sensen River Scene series is an unusual idea, consisting of three separate dioramas that come together to form a larger scene. Sensen Studio’s sculpting and paint application has been pretty good as we’ve seen in the Stegouros and Eryops, but this seems to level up from that with not just fine detail but also outstanding painting. 223: Monster Hunter Nergigante (Creators Model & Figure Builder) Review DinosDragons 2022-12-25 | Well once again it’s that time of the year, so Merry Christmas to all of you! Each year, I do a Christmas special and a New Year special, with one going to a dragon and the other a dinosaur. This year I’m doing this dragon, and I think it oddly inappropriate yet appropriate, because being one of the most dangerous monsters in Monster Hunter, this dragon reminds me of a Christmas tree. The Creator’s Models feature some of the best recreations of the monsters from the Monster Hunter franchise, and I am delighted to have this incredibly detailed and monstrous dragon. You will see the sculpting, textures, and paintwork are very good and worthy of this Elder Dragon, and it’s not only massive in size, it’s heavy in weight too!In addition, I also take look at the much smaller Figure Builder Nergigante. 222: PNSO Suchomimus Review DinosDragons 2022-12-17 | Finally, PNSO gives us a spinosaurid many of us were hoping for besides Spinosaurus itself – Suchomimus. After that controversial “Sinopliosaurus fusuiensis” offering, and worries that that was in fact the rumoured Suchomimus that had been renamed Sinopliosaurus, Thabo will put those worries at rest. Suchomimus is one of the most important and significant spinosaurids, informing the reconstruction of many others including the famous Spinosaurus. The reason why this is the Croc-mimic is easily apparent, and PNSO has captured the most important distinguishing feature of this dinosaur. 219: Rebor Oddities Extinction (Neoclassical Marble) Review DinosDragons 2022-11-10 | Rebor has a line of oddities that are bizarre and outré, and I’ve always wanted one if the right one came along. Well, it has. This Extinction statue is the perfect tie-in between two loves of mine: dinosaurs, and books. And in a nice off-white colour, it will sit perfectly on my shelf with a very nice interplay between light and shadow. There are in fact 23 books, and supposedly 23 titles.
