I jumped on this version because it was so much less expensive and I like how the shuttle is white and the train is black. Transformation is pretty good, but they did have to include their signature floppy linkages. When you fold the train sides back to the wings, there are actually little indents molded into the wing to accommodate the metal wheel linkages, so be sure to rotate them accordingly. Couldn’t come up with a way to show that since the axles are loose. I did try to show that there is a metal button that unlocks and locks the hips at both ends of their travel (when going to/from Robot mode) so don’t neglect that.Support Note:Like what you see? KitzConcept 1/72 Macross VF-1S God of Flame Transformation Sequence peolesdru 2023-05-21 | Figure Note:Stop-Motion Transformation of KitzConcept 1/72 Macross VF-1S God of Flame. This is a gift from my sister for my 50th birthday. Gorgeous but fiddly. I’ve heard it’s not quite as limited edition as they initially claimed. It apparently did well enough that they made extras. The paint is amazing and of course as a Transformers fan the color scheme gets me right in the feels. If only they made it at a larger scale, it would be about perfect. I still have the OG Jetfire based on the Tokutaku 1/55 mold, and I also have a Yamato 1/48 VF-1J. The lights are cool and the figure comes with all the batteries you need, but it was quite a hassle getting those little batteries in. Two in each thruster pod, two in each leg cover, two in the nose of the jet and two in the gun. Only the gun has the switch immediately accessible - you unfortunately need to partially disassemble the other bits to reach those switches.I could see pulling the arms out from fighter mode being hazardous to those parts. I have one of those dental care kits that came with a tool that has the long hook on one end and the shorter but still hooked scraper at the other end. I find that pretty useful working with figures and particularly helpful for gently pulling the arms out from fighter mode. (Also for opening the landing gear bays, etc.) Also I managed to break one of the hinge holders for that little flap on the tailfin component, so watch out for that. I’m sure there will be some Macross pro in the comments to tell me what I got wrong arranging the various bits, so that will be interesting to learn.Support Note:Like what you see? There are many steps that won’t work if you don’t get the previous step correct.Of particular note is getting the shoulders to rotate enough to allow those cockpit window sections to extend the little ball joint to fit into the cockpit. Most things are a matter of knowing which way to orient a part, and hopefully this series of pictures will help. Also, mine came with the main door panels installed on the wrong arms. Once I swapped them it came together much better. Takara MP-09 Rodimus Prime Transformation Sequence peolesdru 2023-03-26 | Figure loaned by Robert Z.Figure Note:Stop-Motion Transformation of Takara MP-09 Rodimus Prime. A classic, but fiddly. The way the face swaps out is very cool. Robert Z was kind enough to loan me his Takara version of this figure. I have the TRU exclusive Hasbro release that didn’t come with the trailer and I always wanted to see how the trailer worked. The arms are a bit off on both this version and my own version. They are supposed to tab into tabs in the undercarriage, but it makes for a very tight twist on the forearm exhaust manifolds to get those to tab. You will see that I got the one side tabbed for car mode but not the other - not worth the risk. Also I don’t think the official Space Winnebago transformation involves flipping the forearm exhausts inside, but it looks a LOT nicer in my opinion. Support Note:Like what you see? Very nicely done. This is their biggest figure to date. I would have preferred more detents on hip, knee and ankle ratchets, but it poses well enough. Its default pose is that derpy looking hyper-extended knee look from the cartoon, so that adherence to the cartoon is certainly on-brand for TT. The little mini-figures a cool. Wheeljack is the best fit for the cockpit. For some reason, Jazz’s hands are palm-downward. TT makes durable hands for their MP figures, but they could do with a bit more articulation. Pretty cool figure if a bit hard to transform in places. Some transformation notes: Extending and collapsing the white section (that ends up under the engine intake) is quite difficult - use a spudger to expand it rather than yanking on it. He has covers on his ankles that like to fall off. It is actually a LOT easier to tab and un-tab the legs onto those T-shaped tabs if you temporarily remove those covers. I realized entirely too late during the shoot that the bottom of one foot has a flip-out tab that can plug into the bottom of the other foot for car mode; not a terribly important step it would seem. Also, the back of the engine intake flips open and one side has a tab. That tab catches a bit on the white rear window part in robot mode so be aware of that. Also those metal parts that form his hips (or obliques, if you will) can catch the tips of his ears in car mode and bend them. Interesting transformation, great articulation. I was surprised to see an “X-Transbots” flap seal sticker on this. Not sure what the relationship is. Or for that matter what was SND-01 through 07? Never heard of these guys before. I was very skeptical when I first handled it, but as I sorted out what goes where it grew on me quite a bit. Odd scale when you’re used to either MP or Legends. This is more of a CHUG scale, but much more complex and MUCH better articulated. He actually has hinges in the tops of his thighs so he can truly achieve the superhero landing pose. Also he has two lift arms inside his abdomen - one on each side - that can not only allow for an ab crunch but also allows you to lift one more than the other for an ab TILT. Very nice. He also comes with some swappable hands that are molded into different hand poses. Also he comes with some wrist swords a la Prime from the movies.Some notes on the transformation: The tires get in the way a bit for flipping over those little blue panels. You have to set the wheel mount panel JUST SO for the white flap to line up with the blue shin piece. Also be sure to collapse the shins all the way down for robot mode. To unlock the backpack you have to pull those red panels and their associated dark grey tabs out and then rotate them straight to clear the tab holes in the dark grey back armature. I tried to show it, but it was beyond my format to show it properly. Also do NOT forget those little red side panels (that lock his abdomen sides down) going in either direction. You’ll note that this video finally includes the feet. I didn’t shoot these guys using a primordial, so there are some sequences that just don’t exist. For example, there is no Landbull robot mode to combined mode sequence, at least not without going through the animal mode. So I cheated a bit when splicing the necessary sequences together. Such an elegant design. I really love MMC. Really looking forward to completing this set. The color is odd - in dimmer light the color is positively gray. There was a small misassembly on mine. The pegs at the ends of the support struts are supposed to droop DOWN slightly, but one of mine was installed the wrong way around. This caused some minor fit and finish issues, but nothing severe. Make note of that ever-so-slight single click of the thigh going to pants mode - you pop that thigh joint one click, put the panels in place, and then click it back to lock in the panels. I forgot to show those small panels on the front of the shins closing - do be sure to have those open when going back from pants to robot mode because otherwise they get in the way of the foot armatures rotating around. They are also handy to have open going to pants mode because it gives you a finger-sized window to push on the combiner peg to get it out. Also, you may want to open up the gorilla-side chest to help get out the waist combiner peg going to pants mode. Also also, it can help to completely open up the forearms so you can push out the robot fist going from pants to robot. Only one more to go! What a great tank-bot! Much more substantial than I had guessed - it’s about leader scale (old-school leader) and has tons of diecast and solid ratchet joints. Also the light in the turret and the light in the head are activated using a magnet that came with it. The batteries came installed, so be aware of that if you plan to store it for a long time. I realized during the shoot that they antennae are not supposed to be asymmetrical, but one had come damaged from the factory. Oh well, gives it character. There aren’t enough ship transformers. This was surprisingly easier than the smaller figures from the line. It was great to finish out that build-a-figure, too. I already shot the red version I bought separately, but it’s nice to have a silver version too. I didn’t show it combining with SS-38 Prime because I really don’t care about that. Also you will note on mine that the red front panel on the boat does not get folded on the right side because the joint snapped on mine and so I just glued it in place. ShowZ is great about getting replacements, but it does take some time and I didn’t want to wait months just to shoot the transformation. So use your imagination. I also livestreamed the shoot of this figure as a 10k subs celebration, so if you’re curious go ahead and check that out. Also the “H.M.S WARSPITE” sticker did not come with it, I made that with a labelmaker. Also the cane and the axe (not shown) can actually be combined to form a display stand. Amazing figure. Crazy it has a third mode. I put this right up there with DX9 La Hire or Transcraft Beetle. I love how it folds up the car surfaces - such a complete transformation. I really enjoy all the little asymmetries it has. The helicopter mode is a bit janky, but it actually kind of was a bit janky the one time we saw it in the movie, so it kind of works. You’ll note that I slide the shoulders back and forth twice to make clearance. The slide was quite tight for me as delivered, so I lubricated it with some silicone oil I got at an auto parts store. I couldn’t find one of those precision dispenser packages so I bought a large spray can of the stuff and used a Qtip to apply it. Slides great now.Support Note:Like what you see? Another great figure to shame Hasbro. I did the head the way the instructions say, but it’s a bit of a hassle getting the head to stand up because it’s on a part that flexes. So you have to brace the head mount with a spudger to get it done. You can’t just turn the head around because the clearance isn’t right unless you also lay it down. One way you CAN handle it is to leave the head completely alone. But you can see the face underneath in car mode. Anyway, that’s the way I would do it - leave it alone. Also I neglected to show those white tabs folding in to narrow the waist silhouette. Hopefully everyone can figure that out.Support Note:Like what you see?
