Hollow Knight - Shade Theme on a real music boxMadam Musicbox2022-09-03 | I recreated the shade theme on a real music box. The theme comes from the computer game hollow knight. When a player approaches the shade in the game, you hear this tune on an off key music box.
The song is played on a Murobox N40. I had to record it off a livesteam (I could direct the musicbox to play what I wanted). Once I got one of my own I'll rerecord it.
Gamers may also recognise the song from the second installment of Friday nights at Freddy's, for which I added a little tribute in the video.Fable: Temple of Light on Music BoxMadam Musicbox2024-01-07 | This song is an arrangement of the temple of light theme from the game fable. The song is played on a Muro N40. Since there is only a prototype in the office of Tevofy, I recorded the song from a livestream. However, coming spring/summer, I should get one of those N40's for myself, since the kickstarter to produce them hit its goals and then some! When that time comes, I'll re-record this song.Lament of the Highborne on Music BoxMadam Musicbox2023-11-27 | This is the wellknown song of Sylvanas Windrunner from the game World of Warcraft. In this song she laments the moment the hordes of undead broke into the city and killed her, along with many others. This song is a favorite of my dear friend Renske, so I dedicate this arrangement to her.
The music box this is played on is the Muro N40, created by the Taiwanese company Tevofy. This model is actually a prototype. I recorded the song via twitch. I will be getting my own coming spring though! If you want such a music box too, you can order one through indigogo: indiegogo.com/projects/muro-box-n40-programmable-mechanical-music-box#
See more from Muro at @muroboxXenogears : Faraway Promise on real music box (Muro N40)Madam Musicbox2023-11-13 | This song - also called a Distant Promise - is from the game Xenogears. This song is played twice in this video. First on the MuroN40 Standard, and then on the Sublime edition. I arranged it myself.
The soundquality isn't a 100% because it's recorded from a twitch stream. The Muro N40 isn't in production yet, so I can only play the song on the prototypes in Taiwan.
If you want to listen to songs on music box as well, the twitch stream is here: twitch.tv/muroboxglobal. You'll need the muro app to let them play. The login for the account to control the music boxes are visible on the stream. You'll find this song in the app as well!FFXIV: Dynamis on Music BoxMadam Musicbox2023-11-07 | This song is Dynamis, a very uplifting and beautiful song from the Endwalker expansion from FF14.
The music box this plays on is the Muro N40 Standard (@murobox ) This musicbox isn't in production yet. So what I did is upload the song on their app, logged into their demo prototype and have that play it. Then I recorded it on their twitch channel. I did a very light sound touchup by ever so softly mixing in a midi render of the song too, to make it a bit sharper. Once I get this device myself, I'll re-record this.
For those who want to try it out too: App can be found on iphone/android as 'Muro box'. Twitch stream: twitch.tv/muroboxglobal
The login for the app account to play the music boxes are visible on the stream. And you can find this song in the app too :)BG3 - Down by the River on a real music box (N40 and N40 sublime)Madam Musicbox2023-11-04 | This arrangement is based on the music boxes that players can find in Badulrd gate 3, which play a rendition of 'Down by the River'. I re-created this song for an actual musicbox. Tis music box is the Muro N40. Since it only exists as a prototype so far, I had to play this on the prototype itself, which is streamed 24/7 on twitch. I recorded it off that. I could do that because the music boxes are app controlled, and that's cool. There are 2 versions of the music box - a basic one, and one with a more reverb sound. The song plays twice, once on each music box. Since it's a twitch recording on prototypes, the sound quality isn't a 100%, but still quite good.
For those who want to try it out too: App can be found on iphone/android as 'Muro box'. Twitch stream: twitch.tv/muroboxglobal

It;s not a well known piece, but I stumbled upon it by chance and decided to cover it. It has a haunting melody that is very well suited for a musicbox.
This is the pattern: musicboxmaniacs.com/explore/melody/f-parodich-francisco-l-de-la-barra_106602Marche Funebre (Funeral March) by Chopin - Music box arrangementMadam Musicbox2023-02-08 | I've arranged the full funeral march by Chopin for music box. I also found some nice footage and pictures to go along with the song. The first few videos are from state funerals from around 1910. The last funeral shot is from 1905, from Hiram Cronk, the last veteran from the war of 1812.
This arrangement is not by my own hand, but made by MusicboxManiacs user Discantus. See their pattern here: musicboxmaniacs.com/explore/melody/p-i-tchaikovsky-dance-of-the-plum-fairy-form-the-n_104921In the Hall of the Mountain King - Music box versionMadam Musicbox2022-11-09 | This song, originally composed by Edvard Grieg. The song is part of of the play Peer Gynt. This play is about a young man called Peer Gynt. In one of the parts of the play he meets the daughter of the king of the trolls. He has the opportunity to become a troll himself, but runs away at the end. This song is part of that act, and the most famous song of that play.
The music box acted up a bit during playing, so at the start 2 notes were wrong. Must be the trolls!Cathinca van Sprundel - Ga Je Mee on MusicboxMadam Musicbox2022-11-07 | This song was written by Cathinca van Sprundel, a dutch fantasy writer and musician. The image at the start and end is based on her. The artwork was made by Nelleke Schoemaker (Hollow Moon Art). The lyrics of the original song was written by Mara Li - another fantasy writer.
I heard the song for the first time on a medieval fair, when she played and sang it live. And I knew it right away - it would make for a great musicbox song. And it did!

I created a musicbox version of the FFXIV song 'Spoken witout end'. I've also started learning of how to make nice shots in the game, so you can see some of my learning curve in this video! At the start there are a few small glitches in the melody. It's because of my music box - replays result in the same glitches.
Special thanks to Shifty for posing for some of the shots, and Claire Av'ante & Malze for giving me some great tips on how to make some nice looking shots!A. Pacheco - La Pulga for Music BoxMadam Musicbox2022-09-08 | This is an old Mexican song, from 1909. It's the full length version of the song, and it's the longest song I've ever made for music box.
I dedicate this one to my dear friend Renske, who loves my music box work and requested thart I would arrange this song!
As for the video, I did a bit of research on the dance of the dead, memento mori, and some expressions of that same idea in other cultures. The concept memento mori was to remind people that life was finite, and you too would die. In the past this concept was used to encourage people to live pious lives, because they would have to answer for their deeds in the afterlife. There were many ways this idea was evoked - lots of painting with skulls and bones, pondering skeletons, skeletons interacting with people, still lifes with wilting flowers and rotting fruits; you get the idea.
The dance of the dead as a concept grew in the late middle ages and the renaissance. It is a subset of the memento mori genre. Loads of people died in the plagues and famines, which resulted with an obsession with dead in the arts. The Danse Macabre was about the great equalizing power of death - everyone died, no matter their station in life. This was of course prevalent during the plagues, where everyone got sick and died. The imagry of the dans macabre was often death leading people from all different backgrounds to their death - a procession of emporers, kings, popes, bisshops, merchants, children, and so on. Several of these images from different sources can be seen in this video.
Other cultures have the same concepts expressed in paintings and drawings - the idea that life is transient. This video also contains art from the japanese painter Kawanabe Kyōsai, who made a lot of allegorical art. One of the images is from Citipati, a Tibetian Buddhist protective deity. They dance in graveyards at night, stabbing thieves who come to loot graves. Their dance is a reminder of the circle of life and death, and that life is not permanent.Tiger Rag on Muro BoxMadam Musicbox2022-06-06 | The Tiger was a very popular song from the Dixieland Jazz band, and was composed in 1917. This little song has been recreated by the Muro box. I bought this rendition as a paper music strip for a handcranked musicbox about 25 years ago. I recreated that rendition on the Muro box.
Enjoy! The muro box sound is much richer with the additional wooden sound box. I also added a very small pitch shift to one of the sound tracks, to make the sound a bit richer.Leierkasten MelodieMadam Musicbox2022-06-04 | About 25 years ago I purched a number of preprinted music rolls for my handcranked musicbox. This was my favorite melody. The roll didn't mention a composer, so I don't know who made the song.
Now I've recreated the song in my new Muro box. The close up let you see the marvel of all the parts moving by themselves.Forever SongMadam Musicbox2022-05-08 | This song is based on the webcomic 'Forever Song', made by Roman and Vik Jones.
You can find the comic here, and find it you must because your life is incomplete without it! foreversong.thecomicseries.com
Now for some background! The comic - and also this video - is about a family of five daemons, spirits of the elements, life and death. They live happily together at first, but then things take a turn for the worse.
Some time ago, Vik Jones shared a poem that he wrote himself, and he envisioned it as a song that would have been sung as a lullaby once the demons had become creatures of myth and legend. I loved the writing, and decided to make it into a real song! Somewhere along the way I decided to involve a couple of other fans as well and it became a bit of a group project. It was great to work with them, to bump off creative ideas against each other and getting really good feedback!
So here are the contributors! - Text: Vik Jones - Composition & Music: Me - Video editing: Me - Sing: Madrigal O. Leonard, Nix Laurel (www.instagram.com/nixlaurelspunk) and yours truly. - Title screen: Sev Wildfang (twitter.com/sev_wildfang) - Art: Vik Jones and Roman Jones (I used panels from the comic) And special thanks to Daan Debie, my brother, for helping me to set up all the music software.Hunting in the nights (musicbox song by me)Madam Musicbox2022-04-10 | My son came up with a really nice chord line some time ago. I decided to expand upon with - with his permission - and create a musicbox melody out of it. So here you go!
The pattern was made by someone else, username Jolopo, and can be found here: musicboxmaniacs.com/explore/melody/j-rosas-no-me-acuerdo_95732FFXIV Sultana Dreaming; Goldsmith cutscene reimagined with real musicboxMadam Musicbox2022-02-26 | This video is based on a cutscnene from a goldsmith quest in the game Final Fantasy XIV. In the scene you present a musicbox that you are your proteges made to the Sultana. In the game itself she turns on the musicbox but as a player you don't get to hear actual musicbox music.
So I decided to fix that.
I arranged the song 'Sultana Dreaming' into a musicbox song, punched it our into a playingcard for the musicbox I have and recorded it. Then I made a video with a reimagining of the cutscene, where the music of the musicbox makes the sultana dream away about her homeland and her own memories in it.Home Beyond the Horizon: Musicbox VersionMadam Musicbox2022-02-19 | For all Final Fantasy XIV fans, the rest of the description and the video contain endwalker spoilers.
In Final Fantasy XIV, the Endwalker expansion, the player enters the ruined empire of Garleand. One song that is featured in this part of the story is 'Home away from home', which plays on the radio all the time. It's a sad and wistful song. I loved it, so I made a musicbox version of it.
I added some of the saddest scenes of this area. Keep your tissues at hand.Bizet - Pearlfishers on MusicboxMadam Musicbox2022-02-03 | This song from the opera the pearlfishers (Les Pecheurs De Perles) from Bizet and is called 'Au fond du temple saint', meaning 'At the back of the holy temple'. It is where two friends sing of their love for the same woman in the past, and how they vowed to remain friends and let nothing come between them.
