POPtravel 2023-07-14 | Shkodër is a historic city in Northern Albania. Also known as Shkodra, it is the fourth largest city in the country. Over the last few years Shkoder has experienced a face lift, making it now also attractive to spend a day or two in the city - for example coming from Macedonia, like we did.

Our walking tour starts at the Monument Luigj Gurakuqi. We will then explore the center we will see sights like the Ebu Bekr Mosque (Xhamia e Madhe), which is the largest in Albania.

We will stroll down the pedestrian street, Kole Idromeno, which offers an experience of daily life in Shkoder. We see a lot of streets and side streets in the center before we finish our tour near our starting point.

KOH RONG SANLOEM, Cambodia 🇰🇭- Saracen Beach Walk - 4K 60fps (UHD)

POPtravel 2023-07-12 | Koh Rong Sanloem is a Cambodian island located 4 km south of Koh Rong island and 25 km from Sihanoukville's port.

On this evening walk we walk along Saracen Beach. Some part of the island was recently sold. Resorts seem to be in disputes with new land owners which is evident with sprayed eviction notices later in the walk.

Despite the island's small population, tourism became its primary economic sector by 2014 but now is in downturn again. Koh Rong Sanloem is one of the few places in South East Asia where tourism is retreating these days making it a tranquil spot in the Gulf of Thailand.

ALANYA, Turkey - Day to Night - 4K 60fps (UHD)

POPtravel 2023-07-07 | We are in Alanya, a resort town on Turkey's central Mediterranean coast. Most tourists arrive from Antalya airport which is a 2-3 hours away.

Alanya offers a bit lower prices compared to Antalya - a variety of beaches, including the historically notable Cleopatra Beach. It is said that Cleopatra, the queen of Egypt, once swam here.

On this tour we explore mostly the center of Alanya. Overlooking the town is Alanya Castle, a fortification from the Seljuk era. Now functioning as an open-air museum, it's situated on a rocky area above the city.

A prominent feature of the city's skyline is the Red Tower. Dating back to 1226, this octagonal structure shows Alanya's historical involvement in Mediterranean trade.

Throughout the city, we'll encounter red tile-roofed Ottoman villas. These structures serve as physical reminders of the Ottoman Empire's influence on this region. Most of the city is modern nowadays with hotels and residential buildings everyhwere.

In summary, Alanya is a blend of natural features, historical sites, and architectural landmarks which we will see on this walking tour.

At last we walk a bit outside to see the more common streets of Ninh Binh before ending our evening walking tour at Phố đi bộ.

On this evening tour we explore the different neighborhoods in and around the old town.
We are starting from from Astoria Liberty Square where see the evening life of the locals. We see several pedestrian streets in the center. We pass the Heraklion Archaeological Museum, home to a collection of ancient artifacts. Walking a bit outside the center, we enjoy the evening atmosphere in and around the Heraklion city center visiting a few sights.

At last our evening walk takes to the Venetian Port, with fishing boats in the harbor. We conclude the tour at the Rocca a Mare Fortress with the sunset over the Mediterranean.

POPtravel 2023-06-24 | We are in Bern, Switzerland's capital. Unlike other bustling capitals, Bern is quiet and unassuming. With a peaceful old town history trumps modernity here.

Our tour in this UNESCO World Heritage Site starts at the main train station. We soon follow streets full of old stone buildings and charming alleys. Bern can sometimes feel too quiet - still it has some sights a medieval tower clock, the warm cellar shops, and sweet treats at local bakeries. We also visit a few viewpoints on this evening.

For over an hour we walk around the old town, cross some bridges and see how relaxed even a capital city can be.

KEMER, Turkey 🇹🇷 - Night Tour - 4K 60fps (UHD)

POPtravel 2023-06-20 | We are in Kemer Turkey, a seaside resort town in Antalya Province, Turkey. Kemer lies along the Gulf of Antalya and is known for its beaches and the marina.

Our evening tour starts at the Olbia Park and follows the tourist paths along the beach. From the 1980s, large infrastructure projects funded by the World Bank have propelled Kemer onto the tourist map. Kemer has some notable nightlife, with some bars, clubs, and beach parties.

After circling the beach area a bit, we walk along the shopping streets we see get an impression of the town at night. A long row of shops at Münir Özkul Liman Caddesi and later Lise Cadde leads us to the Huzur mosque and Kemer tower.

We end our walk strolling towards outside the city center on Atatürk Boulevard with plenty of restaurants (and more shops) on either side.

POPtravel 2023-06-18 | Welcome to our walking tour of Mannheim, Germany. Known for its unique "chessboard" layout this this city has plenty to offer. This walk is a bit older from 2021 and was quite popular on our member playlist.

We start our tour at Marktplatzbrunnen, then move on to key areas like Breite Straße, the Schloss Mannheim, or Mannheim Palace and later the modern complex Q6 Q7. You'll get a glimpse of Mannheim's vibrant life at Paradeplatz and Friedrichsring.

Next, we head to Friedrichsplatz and the Wasserturm, the city's prominent landmark.

Finally, we'll end our tour via the Kaiserring walking to the historical Hauptbahnhof. This tour gives you a glimpse of Mannheim.

Dubrovnik is known for its Old Town which is surrounded by 16th-century stone walls and a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The architecture here is a mix of gothic, renaissance, and baroque styles, with structures including churches, monasteries, and palaces - which we will see on our walking tour. In the recent past Dubrovnik became popular as a filming location for the Game of Thrones TV series.

POPtravel 2023-06-10 | Welcome to our Wroclaw walking tour! We often visit his city in south-western Poland which was called "Breslau" when it was a German before the end of WWII.

We start our tour at Plac Koscielny, a quiet square, then head to Most Tumski, a popular spot due to its padlocks tradition. Nearby is Saint Maria of the Sand, a 14th-century gothic church.

We stroll along the Bulwar Piłsudskiego, a garden along the river, and on Daliowa island, we find Nawa, a modern metal/chrome sculpture.

Our walk continues over the Kładka Riaśkowa and Słodowa Island to Most Uniwersytecki, housing the University and Fencer sculpture. The fencer is popular as a photo motif.

Malarska street leads us to the vibrant art scene before we reach St. Elizabeth church. We then proceed to Rynek, the market square, and down Oławska Street to Galeria Dominikanska. Back via Kazmierza Wielkiego to Świdnicka, we reach the Ogrod Staromiejski and Wroclaw Puppet Theatre.

Next is the Opera Wrocławska and Plac Wolności, hosting the National Forum of Music. We return to Świdnicka, passing the Arkady and Teatr Muzyczny Capitol, to Dworzec Główny, the main train station. Our tour ends at Galeria Wrocłavia, a modern shopping center.

POPtravel 2023-06-06 | We are in Singapore's Chinatown, a district with historical charm in this modern city state. The Chinatown of Singapore showcases some of early Chinese immigrant history. Known as "Niu Che Shui" in Hokkien, meaning "bullock cart water," referring to the area's early days as a trading hub and because fresh water was delivered by Ox carts in the beginning.

Our tour starts at the Buddha Tooth Relic Temple, an red and gold temple housing a sacred relic where we also have a peek inside on this tour ( youtu.be/DJbSnFMd90o ). Soon we are on the walking streets of Chinatown where a trove of souvenirs, trinkets, and traditional Chinese crafts are sold.

POPtravel 2023-06-03 | We are in Danang, Vietnam on the central coast of the country. Danang is home to around 1.2 million people and expat favourite for Vietnam as it offers a more laid-back and relaxed atmosphere with an affordable price level. Danang was a major trading port during the Cham Dynasty and played a key role during the Vietnam War. Now visitors get to Danang on their way to or from Hoi An, which we also visit here on POPtravel.

We are starting our tour at the waterfront area of the Han River, which separates Danang into two distinct parts. We pass the Dragon Bridge, an impressive structure that spans the Han River. The bridge is illuminated at night and the landmark of Danang.

We see much of central Danang on this walk with several temples and busy streets. We return to the waterfront again. There we see the small APEC park. Danang hosted the APEC Summit in 2017 where the park was named after the event.

As we conclude our tour, we get back to the busy area around the train station with markets. There we experience the evening vibe of this Vietnamese city before we end our long walking tour.

POPtravel 2023-05-26 | We are in Venice, Italy - the "Floating City". The famous city of is known for its iconic canals and rich history. Some famous Venetians include Marco Polo and Antonio Vivaldi. The area of Venice is made up of over 100 islands connected by over 400 bridges of which we will cross some on this tour.

Our tour starts at the Venice Santa Lucia train station, from where we arrived (via Udine and Trieste before). We explore attractions like St. Mark's Square, the Rialto Bridge and the Doge's Palace. We see a large part of Venice on this tour spanning central Venice before we return to our starting point ...and a bit beyond.

This tour shows that Venice can be experienced in around 2 hours though you will have a good time with no rush in 3-4 hours to sit in some cafes or rest along the canals.

POPtravel 2023-05-09 | Žilina is a city in north-western Slovakia with a population of aournd 80,000 people. The city of Zilina is located around 200 kilometres (120 mi) from the capital Bratislava. Zilina is, close to both the Czech and Polish borders and we arrive just for a stopover from Kosice on our way to Pardubice.

Our walk in the fourth largest city of Slovakia starts at the train station. It takes us a few minutes to reach the edge of the city center. There we see the Church of the Holy Trinity and the town's Mariánske Square.

After we check a bit of the surroundings we return to the train station ending this quick tour of Zilina.

HOI AN, Vietnam - UNESCO Heritage Ancient Town - 4K 60fps (UHD)

POPtravel 2023-05-05 | Hoi An, Vietnam is a charming town sometimes called as the "Venice of Vietnam" due to its numerous canals and historic architecture. Another nickname is "lantern city" which refers to the atmosphere around the Ancient Town at night. Hoi an also hosts an annual lantern festival, which attracts visitors from around the world.

The easiest way to reach Hoi An in central part of Vietnam is by flying into nearby Da Nang and then taking a taxi or bus to the city (around 1 hour). Parking is limited inside the Old Town so mot tour buses stop outside the center.

Hoi An's attractions include mostly old buildings like the Japanese Covered Bridge, where we start our walking tour. The city became more touristy over the past 10 years as we see some crowded streets here. Many visitors come from China, South Korea, and the United States. The price level still is rather reasonable.

The history of Hoi An dates back to the 15th century when it was a trading center between Asia and Europe. On this walk we get an in depth view of the new and old Hoi An, reaching as far as the Hoi An market. There and around we see also what Hoi An is known for today - its traditional handicrafts, including silk, pottery, and lanterns.

Due to some suggestion 8 wanted to stay near Trang An and chose a hotel that was far from the places. Still a lucky coincidence as the hotel was near the Ky Lan Temple Complex with newly built pagodas.

The whole area around the Unicorn Lake is nicely lit up at night which makes it a popular photo background.

Train from Hue to Ninh Binh, Vietnam 🇻🇳

POPtravel 2023-04-30 | After checking out at the hotel in Hue, I had a nice lunch across the street at Madam Thu, which is a tourist place that offers a sampler of Hue specialties.

It was time to leave Hue so I took a taxi to the train station and then the train northwards to my next destination Ninh Binh.

Arriving late at night I was happy that the hotel got my message on the arrival time and quickly has the room ready.

POPtravel 2023-04-28 | Passau, Germany is a small city with a population of around 50,000 people located on the border with Austria. Passau is known for its unique location at the confluence of three rivers: the Danube, the Inn, and the Ilz. This has earned it the nickname "the city of three rivers".

Passau's city center offers a range of interesting attractions, including St. Stephen's Cathedral, which is known for its beautiful baroque architecture which we will visit on our tour. The Old Town, located nearby, features colorful buildings and narrow streets which we will also see on this walk.

Passau has a history dating back to the Roman Empire. It has been ruled by several important powers over the centuries like the Bavarian dukes and the Habsburgs. In the aftermath of World War II, the city was heavily damaged by Allied bombing and underwent significant reconstruction.

Hue, Vietnam 🇻🇳 - Historic Citadel (3/3)

POPtravel 2023-04-27 | Late in the afternoon there were just a few people inside the Imperial City. It was a nice atmosphere to see the temples and palaces then. With the closing time approaching I left the citadel and walked back to the other side of the city.

Tomorrow a long train ride to Ninh Binh is planned. Nice short 2nd visit here in Hue. For the full tourist program I'd suggest 2 full days - 1 day for a day tour, 2nd day for the Historic Citadel and some market maybe.

This time I walked around the Imperial City and recorded a walk. Cloudy weather yet only a few people inside the historic citadel made it an relaxing Sunday afternoon.

POPtravel 2023-04-25 | We are Siem Reap, Cambodia. The city is the gateway to the Angkor Archaeological Park, Siem Reap which is the most popular destination for tourists in Cambodia. There visitors can explore the most impressive and well-preserved examples of Khmer architecture in the world.

The history of Siem Reap dates back to the Khmer Empire, which ruled much of Southeast Asia from the 9th to the 15th century. The city played an important role in the Angkor civilization, serving as the capital city during the reign of King Jayavarman VII. Siem Reap is also known for its traditional Apsara dance, which is a form of classical dance that tells stories from Cambodian mythology.

Today the city of Siem Reap center offers a few tourist attractions, including the "Pub Street". This central walking street is filled with bars and restaurants. The Old Market is located nearby. There locals offer souvenirs and local handicrafts.

On our tour we see most of the city center with the pub street and surroundings.

Hue, Vietnam 🇻🇳 - Nightlife

POPtravel 2023-04-23 | Hue and the Imperial City is sometimes overlooked on Vietnam trips. On my bus only maybe a third of people left for Hue.

This city also has a lot to offer when it comes to food specialties. On this Saturday evening I enjoyed some nightlife. While the karaoke bars cater to the locals, there are a few places more suited to travelers. It was still rather quiet for a weekend.

My hotel was super central. Just 2 nights here in the city.

POPtravel 2023-04-21 | We are in Debrecen, Hungary. As Hungary's second-largest city, Debrecen is an important cultural and economic center with a population of approximately 200,000 people. Debrecen is known for its historical and cultural attractions, though the distance from Budapest makes it less visited by tourists.

Debrecen is home to the world's first agricultural university, which was founded in 1818. It is also known for its spicy sausages, called "Debreceni kolbász," which are a popular local delicacy.

In terms of the city's history, Debrecen has played a significant role in Hungary's past. It was the site of the country's declaration of independence in 1849, and it also served as the temporary capital during WWII. However, it has faced some challenges in recent years, as it sometimes appears that the city has not kept up with the development seen in Hungary's capital Budapest. Still, it is a buzzing city with a cozy atmosphere.

We start our tour in the city center. There are several sights to see like the Great Reformed Church, a large Protestant church that is the symbol of the city. The church was built in the early 19th century and is a significant landmark. We continue to walk all around and get a good overview north and south of the city center before we end our one hour tour right where we started.

Hoi An, Vietnam 🇻🇳 - Touristic Center and Cam Nam Island

POPtravel 2023-04-20 | Additionally to the touristic city center and the An Hoi island there are a couple of other islands in the Hoi An area. Near the market I crossed over to the Cam Nam Island. It's was very quiet over there with few tourists and just some guesthouses and restaurants near the river.

With the sunset I returned to the central touristic areas of Hoi An and ended a nice 2h walk.

Located near the border with Austria Ljublaja is set amid wine-region hills on the Drava River.

Our walking tour starts at the Drava river with a nice view and a few cafés and restaurants. There are even some swans having their nest with a few chicks down the road.

We explore the old town center, see the Glavni Trg, the old town's main square. There the main sights like the Renaissance-style Town Hall (Mariborski rotovž) can be seen.

ZADAR, Croatia 🇭🇷- Around the Old Town - 4K 60fps (UHD)

POPtravel 2023-04-14 | Zadar (Italian: Zara) / Croatia is a city located in northern Dalmatia on the Adriatic Sea. Zadar is the oldest continuously inhabited Croatian city. In 2016 Zadar won a contest for the European Best Destination. Its Venetian city walls are inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List.

On this walk, we will explore the city center, starting from the Land Gate, also known as Kopnena Vrata. Zadar has its unique charm so we will take a stroll along the bustling streets and visit some of the city's iconic landmarks. We get to the water promenade and return soon to the old town and its narrow streets.

Finally, we will end our tour at Gradski most, a bridge that connects the old town of Zadar to the more modern district.

POPtravel 2023-04-11 | We are at the Cai Rang Floating Markets near Can Tho in the south of Vietnam.

The Cai Rang Floating Markets are a popular tourist destination located in the Mekong Delta region of Vietnam. This market has been in operation for over a hundred years, and is the largest of its kind in the area.

To visit the market, we take a small boat ride early in the morning. We started around 5:30 am from Can Tho after haggling for the price with one of several small boat owners. The market operates until midday usually so an early start is necessray.

There at the Cai Rang floating markets we see locals trading goods, bargaining over prices, and socializing with each other. Some boats even offer breakfast on the river. The market participants have a variety of fresh fruits, vegetables, and local specialties for sale - after all the markets are mainly a hub for local farmers to sell their fresh produce and other goods.

In addition to the market, we also see the local way of life along the rivers and canals. We pass by settlements and see locals going about their daily life. The early morning light provides a nice atmosphere also for photos and videos.

After around 40 minutes we have circled the markets and return for Can Tho and breakfast.

POPtravel 2023-04-08 | We are in Bangkok, Thailand - a bustling city with a rich cultural heritage that attracts millions of visitors. For our long walking tour of Bangkok we are starting near the Asok skytrain station. We are walking westwards along the famous Sukhumvit road in the modern city center.

Here, in the center of Bangkok, we see skyscrapers as well as large shopping malls where we visit a few of them before we get to quieter areas and more north.

One of the most popular destinations in Bangkok is the Golden Mount, a Buddhist temple located on a small hill. The temple offers nice views of the city skyline. We reach the Golden Mount around sunset and can enjoy the view also from the very top.

At last we head over to Khaosan Road, one of the most famous streets in Bangkok which is a must see - at least on a first visit of Bangkok. Khaosan Road is a walking street at night. Known for its bars and loud music with vibrant nightlife, Khaosan Road offers an interesting experience. Many street vendors, bars, and clubs stay open until late at night with backpackers and other tourists enjoying the action.

POPtravel 2023-04-06 | Zwickau is a city located in the eastern part of Germany in the state of Saxony. Zwickau is the fourth-largest city of Saxony after Leipzig, Dresden and Chemnitz that we all visited here on POPtravel.

Zwickau has a rich history dating back to the Middle Ages when it was an important trading center. Today, Zwickau is a medium-sized city with a population of around 90,000 people. It was also a center of the German textile industry during the 19th and early 20th centuries.

The notable German composer Robert Schuman was born in the house on the corner of Zwickau's main market square in 1810.

We start our walking tour right at the Robert Schuman monument. As we walk through the city, we will see both the historical and modern aspects of Zwickau. There are many beautiful buildings in the city center, such as the Gothic-style St. Mary's Church, which dates back to the 15th century, and the Renaissance-style town hall, which was built in the 16th century.

We circle the city center, get out to the Schwanenteichpark in the western side of the city. Walking back to the city center we also see some street art. Our tour leads again through the city's streets towards to the Zwickauer Mulde on the eastern side of the city center. We walk a bit on the Muldenpromenade before we end our tour near our starting point - at Zwickau's market square.

FETHIYE , Turkey 🇹🇷- 4K 60fps (UHD)

POPtravel 2023-04-04 | Fethiye / Turkey is a port town nestled between the Taurus mountains and turquoise waters of the Aegean Sea. The town is small yet has a rather international vibe as we just stopped for a night enroute traveling Kas to Marmaris.

We'll start our Fethiye tour at the ancient amphitheatre in the western part of the town. From there, we'll wind our way through the market streets of the center with scents of spices from many tourist shops.

As we make our way towards the marina, we'll see a line of boats and yachts in the harbor. Soon the sun is setting over the Aegean Sea so we make a u-turn at the Yeni Hamidiye Cami Mosque and get back to the central shopping streets. While walking we see the ruins of the Castle of Fethiye towering over the city.

At last we'll make our way back to the Atatürk Monument and end our walking tour of Fethiye.

Our Poznan walking tour starts in the center of the city where the main square Rynek is under construction. We walk out of the old town on Półwiejska, see the Park Dąbrowskiego and walk all around the city center before we return the the Rynek.
