Daybreak - Rock/Fantasy Music

Vindsvept, fantasy music 2023-07-23 | Like usual, my sleep-deprived semiconscious brain went to work writing this little guitar thing. As all of you know, I'm very fond of 3/4 and that just happens without any thought at all, and yet, this came out in 7/4. I thought, well fine, I'll just move along and change it later down the line. That didn't happen. I also wrote this little ostinato, a repeating pattern of noisy muted guitar along with some harmonic lyre stuff, and it added a little bit of something. Slap on some surprisingly heavy drums, electric bass and a rustic piano, drown it all in reverb and delay, and we have a layered cake of a song.

Windswept Horizons - Adventure/Folk Music

Vindsvept, fantasy music 2023-07-09 | Here's another bouncy track to add to the list of bouncy tracks! I think this might be the first time I've used a melodica, at least in this context. I've used electric guitar quite a bit as well, all over, and that's also pretty rare. It's a bit more raw and rustic sounding than a lot of my tracks, and I like it. It makes it sound more homely and comforting.

Vindsvept, fantasy music 2023-06-25 | One day, a drummer, a guitarist and a game developer decided to surprise their friend, a certain long-haired piano playing muppet. As it happens, this muppet was getting married and a surprise bachelor party was planned.

As they are my best friends, they knew exactly what I wanted. I wanted to spend a day with them, and that's exactly what I got. A fire by the water with refreshments, shenanigans and hours upon hours of deep diving into the nerdiest of topics. It was a great day.

The Waning Glow - Celtic Fantasy Music

Vindsvept, fantasy music 2023-06-11 | I said in my last song that I used my worst flute to record, but I forgot I had this tiny bamboo flute, probably because it's so small. It was just hanging out in a drawer. It fit in this song surprisingly well, I only had to transpose it half a step, and I was off to the races. I actually became quite fond of it after spending most of the day with it. It now has a special little place on my desk!

The Return of Magic - Fantasy Music

Vindsvept, fantasy music 2023-05-28 | I have quite a few instruments, most of them cheap and not well suited for recording. So, what if I took my cheapest flute and based a song on it?

It's the most temperamental little piece of plastic I've ever laid my hands on. I'll eventually get my hands on a dizi or two for my far eastern inspired tracks. Experimentation is always fun though, and it was a great learning experience trying to record with something as fiddly as a $5 plastic whistle.

Up, Up and Away - Celtic Adventure Music

Vindsvept, fantasy music 2023-04-30 | I've been working on a few commissions recently, and this one is for EarthnAshes. I was allowed to upload it and share it with you, which is really fantastic. The brief was simple. Adventurous, with guitars and if possible, cello. After writing about half the tune I realized I hadn't written with the cello in mind, but I was going to try to incorporate it, so I gave it a jazzy solo to introduce it. I would never have done that if it wasn't part of the original vision. Commissions are absolutely wild, it's a lot of fun because it always has these little twists that make the experience something new and different.

I don't think I've ever spent this much time to give each little instrument their own parts to play. The result is a hearty and folky stew, and I hope you find it tasty.

Lament of the Leaves - Fantasy/Folk Music

Vindsvept, fantasy music 2023-02-05 | Normally, I cram every single second with some form of ear shattering flute. In this tune, I used it rather sparingly. This song is like travelling back in time a little bit. This is how I used to write, leave some breathing space and focus on outlining the chords, maybe throw in a dash of flute or whistle. I rarely get to use my low D whistle, but it fit quite well in this tune.

It's also a lot rougher around the edges than most of my songs, which is also pretty reminiscent of my old stuff. It's not polished, feels a bitt floppy and natural at times, and I actually really enjoy that. There are times when you want everything tight, compressed and focused, and sometimes you just want things to float a bit.

The Wizards Quest - Orchestral Fantasy Music

Vindsvept, fantasy music 2023-01-22 | I can't be the only one excited to try Hogwarts Legacy, and with wizardry on my mind, I couldn't really help but to write something related to that. What do wizards do? They go on whimsical quests, of course.

It's very rare that I attempt to write these bigger sort of arrangements, it's partly due to the PC wanting to catch fire every two seconds and partly because I really enjoy writing the smaller more intimate arrangements a lot more. Variety is good, though, and not everything has to be that level of fun.

Whispers in the Winter Wind - Sad Piano Music

Vindsvept, fantasy music 2023-01-08 | It turns out that the first song of 2023 is a sad one. All the instruments being played at what is essentially the very edge of silence, it introduces some noises, but that's part of the charm and the intimacy.

Light of a New Dawn - Emotional/Fantasy Folk Music

Vindsvept, fantasy music 2022-11-27 | Short and sweet, without a flute in sight. This song has all things hammered and plucked I could get my hands on. You'd be surprised just how often there's electric guitar in the background of my songs. The funniest example is in Deeper into the Woods where I had it dropped to an A or something stupid and just had the gain cranked. You can hear it in the chorus if you know what to listen for. This song, however, is the only one I can think of where it's actually in the front, dubbing the acoustic guitar most of the time. I was going for a more post-rock feel to start with, as you can probably tell by the middle section. It slowly became softer as I was writing, but I didn't want to get rid of the guitar. The tune turned out pretty rough around the edges and mellow, but I like it that way, and I hope you do too.

Everlasting - Fantasy Music

Vindsvept, fantasy music 2022-11-13 | It's been a while since I wrote something a bit more pop-y. When I wrote the flute part, I felt it had a decidedly far eastern sort of pentatonic vibe, and I added in that kind of instrumentation multiple times and removed them, it felt too obvious for some reason. It would be fun to do a remake and not use western style instruments at all, though, as it would suit the tune very well. Maybe a little project for the future!

Vindsvept, fantasy music 2022-09-25 | This is the last song from the EP and possibly the darkest of the bunch. I wanted a really animalistic, and raw sound which is why it has those screechy flutes and noises, something I don't normally do. I very much enjoyed trying to make something more cinematic and not as structured as I usually do, I hope you enjoy this tune as much as I did writing it!

Vindsvept, fantasy music 2022-09-11 | This is the second to last song on the EP, it's certainly darker than the last one, but not quite as dark as the final one. It's rare that I use flute sounds that border on musical, but I really like the noise of overblown flutes. It sounds so raw. As usual, the choice of instruments is rather weird. Tricksy Sprites - Fantasy/Folk Music

Vindsvept, fantasy music 2022-08-28 | It's pretty rare that I write a song in major. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think this is actually the first one. It was weird to write, I usually go for something moody and earthy, and this tune is pretty much the reverse of that. As always, it was a fun challenge because of the awkwardness of writing in major. What I'll always remember about this tune is making the background image and making those little sprite figures, that was surprisingly fun.

What Once Was Lost - Fantasy/Folk Music

Vindsvept, fantasy music 2022-07-03 | Hello there, I hope you're having a pleasant day. Here's a somewhat melancholy, folksy tune for you. It's been a while since I used electric guitar for any lead stuff, so that was quite fun to include on the verse bits.

I recently invested in some new software to help me with my mixing, thank you Patrons! And this is the first song that I switched from my old way of doing things to the new stuff. While this might not be an improvement and might actually be a bit worse, over time while I get to grips with it, there should be a noticeable improvement in the overall sound and fidelity.

This song was written for Draconia, an open-world dragon survival game currently in pre-alpha. I was graciously allowed by the developers to upload this track and share it with you. It's rare that I get an opportunity to work on a game, especially one with massive dragons in it. I recorded the footage myself because it was a great excuse to fly around. While going about my business, I found some friendly dragons sitting around the fire and a few flying around, so I managed to capture some of that. Hopefully they don't mind being in the video.

Darkness Fading - Fantasy Music

I think it's pretty safe to say by now that I have a slight addiction to piano and flute based songs. This one continues that trend, as can be expected. All of a sudden the trees are all green, flowers and blooming, and the days are much longer. It's pretty ironic that we wait all winter for the summer and when summer finally arrives, it's too hot and too bright. Anyway, interpret the title as you wish. It's either about old folks complaining about the heat, or it's about a powerful wizard lifting an evil spell and cleansing the world from darkness.

It's always a joy to write these kinds of sad, but also hopeful sounding tunes. I was going to say that I could write hundreds, but I already have, so that doesn't really work. I could, though, write another few hundred, and I would most likely still find it as exciting.

Vindsvept, fantasy music 2022-04-24 | Hello lovely people! Most musicians that work digitally usually use some sort of template they have been working on and in for years. When I start a new tune, I always start with a completely empty project. When you do that, every now and then you get a strange mix of stuff. While I really do enjoy having a piano or guitar based foundation most of the time, it's fun not to include either and just fill out the spectrum with other noisy, pingy and stringy things. This is very unpolished and rough, and I didn't want to remove the bumps and scratches. It feels damp, dark and mysterious, hence the name of the song. By the way, who says that you need to buy a bunch of expensive percussion when you've got lots of pots and pans?

Anyway, here's one of the weirdest songs of the year. I hope you like it!

Call of the Forest - Adventure/Folk Music

Vindsvept, fantasy music 2022-03-13 | It's Sunday already? Time really moves fast these days. That being said, here's a little tune, so we can all slow down for a moment and take a few deep breaths. I named this song Call of the Forest, because, I don't know if you know, but there's a gorgeous old forest right outside our window. I've been wanting to go there and to spend some time in there all winter, maybe take a few pictures, and just breathe in the forest air. The issue though is that there is still so much snow on the ground that it's hard to move around. Hopefully the weather picks up a bit and I can finally go on a little adventure and explore.

Dreamscape - Fantasy/Piano Music

Vindsvept, fantasy music 2022-02-27 | Writing this song was really an experience. It was an exercise in restraint in many ways. I have a bad habit of just adding stuff because I can, and only after, really examining it and realizing that a lot of what I added didn't really serve any purpose.

This time, I took my time with each section and really thought about what it needed. In the end, I quite liked it without any robust percussion, rather having the strings keep a marching beat to move things along. It's a strange song, but I like it.

Vindsvept, fantasy music 2022-02-13 | Here's a simple and rough little harp and ocarina tune for you. The original arrangement I had written was much bigger, with horns, strings and choir. However, it didn't end up sounding the way I wanted, so I cut it down to the essentials. I think this is much more fitting, however it's a good candidate for a future part two as it would be quite easy to reimagine into something else.

Forgotten Magic - Fantasy/Piano Music

Vindsvept, fantasy music 2022-01-02 | You'd be surprised just how much piano is in this song. 9 out of the 21 tracks are piano. There's piano in every section, of course there's the main piano, then there are pads made out of piano samples in the string section, the bass is piano, even part of the percussion is piano noises. It's so much fun to experiment with sounds and have them in unexpected places to create something new.

It's the start of a new year! The 2021 songs will be uploaded to Spotify and other streaming services shortly.

I hope to start experimenting more with video content this year as about half of my listeners have moved over to listen on other platforms, hopefully I can branch out a bit on the Youtube channel. I'm still not entirely sure about this, but I have some ideas and if there's anything you'd like to see, please let me know!

I have no intention of disrupting my regular schedule though, so the music will continue to flow :)

Thank you so much for another fantastic year. In January, I will upload all of this year's music to Spotify and the other streaming services.

This year has been amazing. I got my first proper industry job, actually two of them, which has been a dream come true and something I've been wanting to do for such a long time. We moved to a great place out in the countryside, and this might not seem like such a huge thing, but we finally have a stable high-speed internet connection which has made working so, so much easier. Thanks to your support I've been able to invest a little into my workspace, built a new desk and bought some new lovely instruments that I'm still very much learning to play.

Our tiny one is doing very well, he's 20 months old now and runs around like he owns the place, which he very much does. His favourite instruments are the ukuleles and the accordion, and he even got his own little melodica and it's so much fun seeing him dance around in circles playing it. He's constantly amazed by everything and it's so great seeing him explore every little thing and figuring out what it is.

I'll be taking a few days off over the holiday visiting family and eating a pointless amount of food, as I'm sure most of you will be doing as well. I'll be back 2022 with new material, and I hope to talk to you then.
