MILK | A Short Film From a Mothers Perspective | Webby Winner 2023 Earthling Ed 2022-11-01 | Blood is thicker than milk. A film for the forgotten, by Ed Winters. http://therealcolourofmilk.com--We made Milk so that we could show the reality of the dairy industry from the perspective of those trapped within it. We never stop to think about what these animals are being forced to endure, so by highlighting the story of an individual mother, we hope that people will recognise that there is always a victim when we buy dairy products. What happens to the mother cow is what happens to all female dairy cows. We specifically chose to show the standard legal practices to illustrate how ingrained and normalised the suffering of dairy cows is within the dairy industry. The location of the farm and slaughterhouse are based on real locations that are considered high welfare and humane.What we show in Milk is literally the best of the best when it comes to dairy farming, yet, as soon we view what happens from the perspective of the mother cow, it becomes clear that this is an industry that runs on the exploitation and suffering of animals. By using animation, we are able to show a unique perspective and tell the story of the mother cow in a way that cannot be done from investigative footage alone. Milk centres the cow as the protagonist of her own story and allows us to view what is happening to her from an up close and personal perspective. Organic, free-range, high-welfare, humanely raised. It doesn’t matter what label we put on dairy products, all dairy cows are victims of an industry that forcibly impregnates them, takes their babies from them, exploits their bodies and then sends them to a slaughterhouse to cut their throats. We have a new Prime Minister! 🇬🇧🎉 Earthling Ed 2022-09-05 | So we have a new Prime Minister and she’s someone who reportedly refused to recognise that animal welfare is important, prefers animal farms to solar farms and removed environmental regulations for farmers meaning that they could dump waste like pesticides and animal faeces into UK rivers. In fact, because of Liz Truss, animal farmers are now the number one polluters of UK rivers.Unfortunately, what happens next is not going to be good for the environment and it’s definitely not good for the animals. So now, more than ever before, we can’t just simply expect our governments to make the changes necessary, because they’re not going to. If we want to see changes that help animals, we need to make the changes ourselves. Only then will our elected officials start to listen.

Animal farmers don’t care about animals. Earthling Ed 2022-08-31 | Animal farmers will always tell us that the wellbeing of the animals on their farms is their number one priority, an obviously audacious and ironic claim considering their industry revolves around profiting off of the exploitation and ultimate deaths of these animals. However, just in case we needed another example of how the animals will always be considered as far less important to farmers than profit, pigs farmers in the US are currently attempting to have a vote overturned that has made it illegal for pig flesh being produced or sold in the state of California to come from farms that use gestation crates.Gestation crates are cages that are so small that the mother pigs trapped inside of them cannot even turn around. Horrifically, the farmers keep the pigs in these crates for sixteen weeks at a time, every time they impregnate them. So why would the farmers be against these cages no longer being used, after all, they tell us that the wellbeing of their animals is their number one priority?Well, it’s because it will cost them more money to farm pigs without these cages. In other words, they want to continue confining these highly intelligent and sentient animals in cages so small that they can only stand up and lie down for nearly four months, simply because they can make more money doing so.
The Prime Minister of Finland: The Real Controversy Earthling Ed 2022-08-28 | Whilst Finnish news has been focussing on the recent videos of the Finnish Prime Minister dancing, the real scandal happening in #Finland right now is their treatment of animals, including the fact that they still have fur farms.In fact, whilst fur has been or is being banned or phased out from most European countries, Finland remains a fur farming nation, with a staggering 96% of all the fox fur produced in the EU being produced in Finland. The fact that fur farming still exists is as bewildering as it is depressing, especially considering so many countries, designers and consumers have already turned their back on it.
