Hard mode goes through all 13 depths. At the start I'm more concerned about the timer. After depth 6 I'm mostly concerned with not blowing up, but it gets easier near the end.
The real secret to defeating hard is playing medium a lot. Depths 6-10 are deadly, so messing around in them is extremely helpful.
I use a few advanced techniques: normally pieces don't match while freefalling, but if you pull one piece out of a stack, the pieces formerly above it are eligible to match with it for 1 frame (I use this on the slimes and cacti in depth 1). I also use the "make it rain" button to get through ice: as long as I get my 4 guys, the rest is generally quick to clean up. Even if the guy you want takes a long time to come out, that means the guys who did come out are all similar.
Next I'm going to go for lots of all clears and (in separate runs) destroyed clocks. I'll start on easy and work my way up.
Generally, you would get up here using walljumps, bomb jumps, space jump, or speed booster. But you can also get up this way, if you want :) This technique is more useful in other rooms.

My 2nd clear of a game made by Cave. Cave games are manic, with bullets everywhere! I made up some good survival strategies, but in order to clear, I needed to learn good bomb usage. Good bomb usage = using them at all, instead of dying and losing them!
I pick the C ship for wide shot (for surviving stages), and Laser type to move faster while lasering (for surviving bosses). Because I picked laser type, my shot powers down when I die, so after death I rely on the laser until I power up.
Stage 1: I get a good score on the first half, but it's just for fun, not critical to mission success.
Stage 2: I kind of try to score, but from now on I need to focus on survival. I dismantle the boss because it makes him do the gatling attack for longer, which (barely) lets me kill him before his last fast bullets reach me.
Stage 3: Good bomb usage in the second half (as in, I used bombs). At 7:31, I didn't realize the left turrets were still alive, but luckily my ship squeezed between the bullets (and when I looked back at my ship, I saw surprise scary bullets and bombed). I dismantle the boss for safety; 8:06 is usually the scariest part, and I should have bombed, but I didn't, so I die (losing only one bomb, at least).
Stage 4: At 9:50 I'm a bit slow to get left, so I have to go "around the world." This is often unsafe, but I've done it in this spot before: it appears to be safe here. 10:28 I've planned how to navigate the three ships + army of cars coming up. If bullets force you to move away from a ship, the cars can keep you from moving back, then multiple ships appear on screen at once: you pretty much have to bomb. Because I'm confident and points-greedy, I grab a bomb powerup at max bombs for extra points (I will still bomb if I have to). The tank section and turret sections after are both also hard: I do end up bombing the turrets, but there's another bomb item there. Starting at 12:04 I am ready to bomb at any moment, but I don't have to bomb until 12:20 (the spread pattern was pretty easy this time).
Stage 5: At 13:10 I die with two bombs in stock. Good bomb strategy is to bomb when I feel like I'm not in control of the situation, and run out of bombs before going for tense dodges (making failure less costly, but still keeping some fun tense moments in the game)! Going for risky dodges before running out of bombs is a bad habit that has been very hard for me to break, even though I understand that it's better both for my performance and my enjoyment to not do that. My bad habit has only wasted a couple bombs in this run so far though: a big improvement! And in this run I use more bombs after I die instead of less: also a big improvement. 13:44 to 14:31 I've planned the route and practiced it a bunch: it goes very well. Even as things get hectic near the end, I don't feel like I'm in immediate danger and have to bomb. 14:31 the first 100% planned bomb in the run: I have no other reliable tactic against the second big box. I deliberately violate my strategic principle of "don't make risky dodges until out of bombs" at 15:24 because I have a specific route for this boss, which involves a planned bomb. In a previous run, I entered the boss with 0 bombs, and died twice because I've gotten used to this route (which I lifted from lunaria_STG youtube.com/watch?v=uGInSPBAvYI&t=15m43s ). So I cling to my last bomb, make it through, and mostly kill the boss as planned (I do die to contact damage near the end, but I expected to die relatively soon anyway, to refill my bombs).
Stage 6: I am exactly on pace for my "how many bombs to use in each stage" plan. 18:39 I enter this difficult section with one bomb left, but I safely navigate the hallway without being forced into anything too risky! And then I die immediately afterwards on a much easier part. But I'm SO CLOSE to the end of the game, and I enter the boss with 11 bombs: barely not enough to just mash bomb, but I just do the first, easiest dodge and then space my bombs out for a very relaxing final boss (which I have earned with all of my practice)!
Closing thoughts:
Getting over my bomb hangups and my "restarting stage 1 over and over" hangups took some introspection. I think I'm prepared to tackle some other bullet hells with my better bomb usage (using bombs at all instead of dying with full bombs always) and my better play habits (not expecting an immediate 1CC: way more fun for me to play for small improvements which will lead to an achievement, instead of playing for "I want the achievement! Now!").
I will take a small break and then pick up a new ship or a new game!

They made some great bullet hell games. Espgaluda is difficult, especially the final boss, but it's still one of Cave's easier releases. I really like the art+music+vibes+gameplay!
Espgaluda has 4 buttons: shot (good coverage), laser (good damage, slow micrododging), a bomb, and a slowmo button. When you kill enemies normally, they drop green gems. Toggling the slowmo button turns bullets pink, slows them down, and drains green gems. Killing an enemy while in slowmo drains more gems to turn their bullets into gold, giving lots of points. You get 1ups at 4 million and 14 million points, so you want to save some green gems for survival, but use some for big juicy cancels!
Green meter on the bottom left is bombs.Tap the button for 25% meter small bomb, or long press for a ~50% big bomb. Bombs give invincibility, and big bomb does high damage. I struggled to use bombs, and wrote a blog post about how I learned to stop worrying and love the bomb, if you're interested. cohost.org/BoatsAndJoes/post/1575678-use-your-freaking-bo P.S. getting hit while in slowmo auto-small bombs to save your life, but it costs 50% meter.
Notes on this run: I pick Ageha because he's fast, which helps in dodging some stuff.
Stage 1- If you slowmo after your gems drain to 0, the bullets turn red and speed up. This is worth some points, and if you leave it on for a while and then turn it off, enemies will drop more green gems until you lose a life. I do fast motion in stage 1 mostly for kicks, though.
Stage 2- I slowmo big guys for score. On the last boss pattern, you can stop a few bullets by killing the popcorn.
Stage 3- My score is pretty good already, so I speedkill most trains before they can shoot much, and start using slowmo for safety. There's aggressive popcorn paired with movement-restricting cannons on the airship at 8:10, but also a bomb refill and 1up. With good positioning you can kill the popcorn and cannons before they cover the screen, or you can also tap dodge. If I identify early that things are getting bad, I can slowmo, but at the end I'm pinned and have to bomb. On the boss I'm hit during slowmo twice, which uses up my bombs.
Stage 4- I've practiced stage 4 the least. Some guys cover the screen if you don't speedkill them. When that happens, I slowmo to cancel bullets. 14:05 I go to the right before killing the tank and don't return quickly enough, so I have to slowmo back to the left. I leave it on a bit too long and a bunch of popcorn gets destroyed, draining most of my gems. I try to dodge the next guy at normal speed and get hit. I could have gotten out of that situation in a few ways, but I feel good that I died with all resources used. 15:08 I get the easy pattern, which is nice. 15:30 there are better strats, but I just wing it. I drift too far to the side while dodging, and I should bomb, but my "bomb hoarding" habit comes back when I've died recently, so I get hit again. I use resources well the rest of the fight, and 2 deaths into stage 5 is totally fine.
Stage 5A- Stage 5 I've practiced the most, and made up a pretty detailed route. 17:17 I should go to the right immediately, but I forget, so I slowmo it and the next section. The next section is a shorter but harder version of the stage 3 airship. I do a few risky dodges, which convinces me to bomb at the right moment late. I get through unharmed, plus earn the last 1up earlier than I usually do. I autobomb the boss's opening volley, but overall stage 5 went great with no lives lost at all.
Stage 5B- The little Alices are fun. I get best results with turning laser on and sweeping across quickly, killing everyone. Move forward past the bullets already on screen, and you have space to sweep back, killing the next group. 20:43 has Alices that spray everywhere instead of aiming at you: I speedkill them as much as possible, and then use slowmo to cancel some bullets.
Final boss I've practiced a lot. This is like my 7th time taking a full run to him, and I have a ton of resources left, so I'm not as nervous. 22:46 sometimes is easy, but this time it crisscrosses, and I bomb it. 23:06 I usually slowmo, but I have low gems, so I bomb it. The next pattern's trick is to stay under him for as long as possible. When you move to the side he starts flinging stuff sideways, which will cut you off if you go too early. 23:51 all 4 patterns are hard, so I spend resources on them when possible. Last pattern I have 1 extra life. It's best to hang near the bottom, for less crisscrossing. During this pattern, slowmo does low damage & causes him to fire extra bullets, and bombs heal him: at 25:50 I heal him a bit by mistake. But I make it through!

In the beginner course, you only *need* to slide on turn 3. I shift to 2nd gear when I drive past the grass, and back to 4th when the speedometer says 290 km/h.
There's a pit lane that repairs your car (with a ~10 second animation): useful only in long races. At the start and end of lap 8, you can use it as a shortcut (no animation). On other laps, you can squeeze past the pit trigger if you hug the FAR right side of the pit lane. Usually I touch grass a little (much better than pitting). This shortcut is pretty unforgiving, especially at high speed: I've kind of gotten the hang of it at medium speed. I still tapped the wall pretty hard exiting the pit lane on lap 7; luckily a car bumped me back up to speed.

($8 USD; also available on Switch). TGM is a fun take on Tetris that asks you to keep a flat/staircase-shaped stack so that you can slide pieces along the top of it without getting stuck.
The video is missing the first 15 seconds or so. This run is in the hi score mode, which boots you directly into the game in either normal mode or 20G mode, and has a separate leaderboard. Pausing and savestates are not allowed. In order to get the highest grade, you need to survive to level 999, get 40,000 points by level 500, get 126,000 points by the end of the game, and finish the game under 13m30s. The 40,000 point condition is harder in instant gravity mode, because pushing down to drop a piece through the air gives you a point multiplier that is unavailable in this mode.
I got a bit distracted near the end, but the game was basically won at that point already. I do not appear on the leaderboard at the end because it needed a bit of time to update, but I was in 6th (at the time, and not counting the normal leaderboard or the Switch leaderboards). Its Mr. Pants: funny-looking but fun! You place randomly given pieces into a grid. You cannot place a piece on top of anything the same color, but you can cover up other colors. The goal is to create rectangles 2x3 or bigger to make them disappear (bigger clears make different animal sounds!).
In Wipeout mode, the board starts messy (randomly generated), and you have to "clean up Mr. Pants' naughty mess" within 2 minutes (yuck). Hard mode has 3 colors, and you unlock it by clearing the 2 color Medium mode. Doing so unlocks Special mode, which I cleared a few days after this was recorded.

G1 Master mode in Shiromino is a clone of Tetris the Grand Master 1's Master mode. Dropping pieces and clearing lines increases your level. The gravity increases until it becomes instant at level 500, and then you must survive to level 999. Scoring points increases your grade from 9 to 1, then from S1 to S9, then to GM. GM has a few additional requirements, including: you have to achieve the S4 grade before level 500 (in this game I made a clean stack on top of my messy stack before level 500 to get a few extra points), and you must finish under 13:30 (I stack (too) high in low gravity, minimize thinking time, and lock pieces without confirming "did it go where I wanted?").
The credits bugged out a little bit in this game. This mode stops tracking time and score once the credits start, so it doesn't really matter.
If you like Tetris, also try Tetris Effect Connected, Tetris 99, or tetr.io ! There are rumors that Arika is trying to release a TGM sequel/port: if they can, I'm buying it right away!

This was a great game for me, a full minute faster than my first S9, and fulfilled all of the GM point requirements. I'm happy with how clean my stack is around level 900 :) In order to get the GM grade, I need to get to level 300 a half second faster, and finish 32 seconds faster overall.

ZeroRanger is really good! I love the music, the look, the levels, the setpieces, the enemies, the weapons, the modes, and the ships. It's difficult, but with modes, continues, checkpoints, dynamic difficulty, and extra lives, it's reasonable to see all of the game (without trivializing it) (although Despair is dang hard). The game is tough but not mean most of the time (for example, you cannot die in the final escape sequence). I kept finding new neat things each time I played, including this time.
Your score in the top left fills up with a slightly different color from left to right as you earn points. It fills faster the fewer extra ships you have. When it fills entirely, the color empties and says "life up," giving you an extra ship. During the final boss fight at 40:37, I lose my last ship, but a shot that I had already fired earns me the last few points I need to get an extra ship and save my life. My heart was pounding after that!
My playthrough is mainly focused on survival, but I still try to score to get extra ships. In order to score well in Green Orange/Normal Mode, you want to kill certain enemies quickly to spawn extra orange enemies, and leave certain enemies alive to bridge parts of the stage that have no enemies (since your score multiplier goes down if you go 2 seconds without shooting something). Leaving enemies alive can be dangerous, so in this run I kill most enemies as quickly as possible. You also get points for hitting bosses, killing bosses quickly, having many lives remaining at the end of a stage, and for collecting SE Bonus items (I skip some bonuses that I find difficult/dangerous to go for).
I picked the default color palette and Type B, flamethrower, charge shot, sword for both loops this run. Type B's shot and flamethrower have good coverage, and its charge shot/shield is really good against 1-3 second half "the boys are back in town" and Despair/marbles. Its sword does a lot of damage in general and has some specific powerful uses: for example, at 36:05, I deflect Grapefruit's spirit bomb attacks, and at 39:49, I parry the final boss' chop attack. Other weapons have other uses: for example, lock-on is really good at maintaining your multiplier and Type C's charge shot pierces through all of the train cars in 1-3, taking them out easily.
I came back to the game to play White Vanilla/Light Mode (my 1CC here youtube.com/watch?v=9t4AIxsu_Iw ), and didn't originally plan to 1CC Green Orange/Normal Mode. When ZeroRanger was new, I didn't like the idea of 1CCing a 2 loop mode, but now I understand and like the idea behind this one (replay the first 2.5 stages with all of the weapons, then the rest is different) from Electric Underground's interview with System Erasure here youtube.com/watch?v=V1wyPN4DaJE . Also, Despair At Last at 38:15 is my favorite song in the game!
ZeroRanger is exciting to play! Will definitely play Hard Mode/Black Onion when it is added, but I think I might go for higher White Vanilla/Green Orange scores too. Blue Revolver is a bullet hell/danmaku style shooting game from indie developer Stellar Circle. It has a lot of practice features and settings: I play with hitboxes on, and I left them on in the replay. "Normal mode" is the easiest mode: the dynamic difficulty is capped at 2 out of 5, and you need fewer points to get all 4 extends (extra lives).
When you kill an enemy with your shot, it increments your chain counter by 1 (capped at 8). If you don't kill anything for a while, you lose your chain. If you kill an enemy with your secondary weapon while your chain counter is at 8, they're worth 64 times as many points! This is the main way to get points. You will need to refill your chain after doing this, and you need to pick up energy drops to refill your secondary weapon.
This is my first 1 credit clear of this mode. I have been getting better at shooting games, so I got it after just a few runs of stage 1-4 and some extra practice in stage 5. Played on Steam version 1.12 with Val, Variable Shot, and Hyper Laser.

Light Mode/White Vanilla is "easy" mode. It has most of the areas from the Normal Mode/Green Orange, slightly rearranged. It has a different scoring system, and bonus EX stages after each level. It gives a lot of extra 1 ups, and it leaves out some of the more challenging stuff from Green Orange mode.
This is my first time clearing White Vanilla/Light Mode without using a continue. I used the Type-B ship with flamethrower, lock-on, and sword. I got a score of 797,128 and a rank of B. It's messy, but I think I can do better and faster :)
G1 Master mode is a clone of Tetris the Grand Master 1's Master mode. Dropping pieces and clearing lines increases your level. The game speed increases until level 500, and then stays the same until the game ends at level 999. Scoring points increases your grade from 9 to 1, then from S1 to S9, then to GM.

Happy with how the Bowser levels/fights went.Phan Phan double starBoatsandJoes2021-01-30 | There is a small chance that Sparky will already be attacking when you enter the room, in which case you can run to the right and get the double star without having to set him up. Otherwise, you have to run to the right to bait Sparky into attacking.
Once Sparky is attacking, give yourself some space, then run + jump and inhale a little after you jump (not immediately, but still pretty early; about when Kirby is level with the top of the step). The rock in the background is an excellent visual cue for the jump; your jump arc should trace the outline of the rock.Poppy Bros No Copy Abilities stratBoatsandJoes2021-01-30 | Killing a Poppy Bro with one double star only works if the Poppy Bro decides to jump backwards. I don't know the exact odds, but it seems like less than half of the time. Sometimes the remaining Poppy Bro decides to jump high to throw a bomb, which makes him hard to hit, but if you inhale the dead Poppy Bro quickly enough then you should be able to kill him first. If the two Poppy Bros don't throw a bomb at the same time, but you still get a double star: you should run under the one that threw a bomb first, and then try to double hit the other one.Bugzzy stratBoatsandJoes2021-01-30 | This takes about the same time as the world record strat, but helps with consistency (easier to inhale both bugs without getting hit).
Crossing up Bugzzy in between the two bug spawns will cause him to place the two bugs closer together, although you can get the double star regardless as long as you have enough horizontal momentum and inhale the bugs soon after the second bug spawns.
Being in the air may make Bugzzy spawn bugs less often, though. May have to wait on the ground and then fly up after he's selected his attack but before he performs it.2-2 Grand Wheelie Double Star in Kirby Nightmare in Dreamland No Copy AbilitiesBoatsandJoes2021-01-30 | Saves time on this boss who likes to be random, but the trick is inconsistent (2 frame window, but one of the frames only rarely works, so it's more like 1 frame). This trick as far as I know was discovered by Marche9th/mapler90210; I just did some experimenting with it. These are Marche's methods: youtube.com/watch?v=KXsDrH_UUNc youtube.com/watch?v=9uIbTH0xzZk
1. after landing, jump onto the bottom step and bonk the right wall. This should make Sparky spark. 2. Tap left in order to get as far to the left as possible without falling off the step. I use two left taps here: more taps makes it easier to get close without falling off. You have some leeway here, but getting a similar position each time means similar timing for the jump/inhale each time. 3. Hold right. 4. Press jump and inhale one frame apart. I recommend using two fingers and bringing your hand down to the buttons, but with your middle finger extended a little more so that A gets hit 1 frame before B. Hold inhale after. It doesn't matter if you hold jump or not. If you are on the very left edge of the platform, you should hold right for 11 frames and jump on the 12th frame (the game runs at about 60 frames per second. Jumping on the 11th frame also has a chance to work). 5. If you got it, don't spit from the very left edge: spitting more to the right lets you take out the bomb block as well.
Troubleshooting: If you inhale without jumping, you hit jump either at the same time or after inhale. Assuming you hit jump and inhale one frame apart: if you bonk the step then you jumped too late, and if you don't suck up the fire guy then you jumped too early (the fire guy may also be able to dodge the inhale by attacking: I'm not sure). If you did not inhale Sparky: make sure that Sparky is attacking: attacking changes Sparky's hurtbox and makes it possible to inhale it. If Sparky was attacking *and* you inhaled one frame after jumping *and* you inhaled the fire guy, you jumped one frame too early and got unlucky.

I win the video game with arbitrary restrictions. In the Low% category, it is not allowed to pick up anything that enters into your inventory (like bombs or a compass) or use anything that needs to be "used" (like the shotgun). Picking up throwables (like land mines) is allowed. It's a fun challenge that is not officially recognized by the game. I started the run avoiding gold as well, but I picked some up by mistake.

(stream VoD)BoatsandJoes2017-12-26 | Bemuse is a free rhythm game that you can play in your browser at https://bemuse.ninja It takes time to get used to, but it's a lot of fun!
My controller is a DJ Dao FPS, from Gamo 2 (gamo2.com/en/). Not cheap, but it makes the game a lot more fun for me.
Bemuse works just fine on keyboard. You can also check the arcade locator (zenius-i-vanisher.com/v5.2/arcades.php) and see if there's an arcade with Beatmania IIDX near you!
The songs are all made by the community. A good way to start finding songs is to google "BMS of Fighters (year) download songs." BMS of Fighters is a popular annual song making contest that has been around since like 2006. It gets a lot of great songs. Click and drag them into Bemuse to play!
Lunatic Rave 2 is another popular BMS simulator that has more features and can also play any BMS file. The only disadvantage is that it was never finished, so it's a little clunky and crashes sometimes.
Hope everyone enjoys the video! Comment if you have any questions.

Jaina is my favorite character! This person didn't yet know something very important about her, which is that you can have unlimited downward arrows on the screen at once. This lets you either keep the opponent out really well, or even lock them down for pressure if you want. You can even do something like set up some downward arrows, then do an invincible uppercut in their face, and the arrows will make you safe. You can also juggle arrows into one another, or combo knee into air sideways arrow.
Geiger's gear meter works a lot like Guile's charge. You lose it if you walk forward, and you need it in order to use flash kick and sonic boom. Neither character used their air super: Jaina's covers the screen in downwards arrows, and Geiger's creates a slow-moving multihit projectile that controls the screen for a long time.

DeGrey is really cool. Like Slayer, he has a special move where he dashes back and then forward, and it has 3 possible followups. One is a downward punch that's plus on block, one is two kicks that are totally invincible, and one is a pilebunker that does 2 damage and wallbounces on counterhit. He also has a ghost that can destroy projectiles and hold you in place for a pilebunker!

By the way, at the beginning of the video, I was asking Sirlin about an article he wrote a few years ago about whether hitboxe controllers should be allowed in fighting game tournaments. At the time that he wrote it, many tournaments didn't allow them. Now, most do. Sirlin's opinion is that they should not be allowed, because if they are, everyone is forced to use them. I like hitbox, so I wouldn't mind that too much!Fantasy Strike Evo 2017: Final Abe (Setsuki) vs. Liqwid Bliss (Midori)BoatsandJoes2017-07-20 | I may be mistaken on the identity of the Midori, and if that's so, I apologize. If you want more help, a Discord server for your game is a great way to get it. A Discord server is a chatroom with lots of people to play games with and ask questions to. Google “[name of game] Discord” to find one. You can also search for “Fighting Game Community [your location]” to find people to play with and learn from in person!
I sometimes see people ask “do I need an arcade stick?” Absolutely not. You can play with a pad, an arcade stick, a keyboard, a hitbox, whatever, and compete at the highest level of play. Which you choose just depends on what’s most comfortable for you personally, and of course cost.
I also see people ask “is X game/character good for a beginner?” If you think that game or character is cool, go for it. Playing something you like is by far the most important thing. That said, you should consider picking based on difficulty if you like multiple characters/games nearly equally. Almost all modern fighting games have extremely balanced rosters, so you don't need to worry about that.

In this variant of Tetris, you go up a level whenever you drop a piece or clear a line. The speed increases as your level goes up, but you get a small break at level 200.
The grades go from 9 to 1 and then from S1 to S9. You can achieve the grade of Grandmaster if you fulfill certain time and score requirements before finishing the game at level 999.
