Hilleberg Tent Talk with Emily Ford Hilleberg The Tentmaker 2023-04-24 | In 2020, Emily Ford became the first woman and person of color to complete the 1,200-mile Ice Age Trail in Wisconsin in the wintertime. Since then, she’s been unable to resist winter adventure. She spent last winter in Alaska mushing dogs, and on her drive home to Minnesota she stopped by for a Tent Talk with our CEO Petra Hilleberg. They talked about Emily’s past adventures, including her 2021 ski crossing of the boundary waters canoe area in Minnesota using a Nammatj GT. “These tents are so cool,” she says, “It makes a huge difference to have something to go into that you know is going to withstand anything. The winds were ripping on some of these lakes.” The two also talked about some of her plans for the future, like her goal to one day complete the three well-known trails in the US – The Pacific Crest Trail, The Continental Divide Trail and the Appalachian Trail. Important tip on how to peg your Hilleberg Anjan or Helags tent Hilleberg The Tentmaker 2022-12-26 | This video goes into detail on how to best pitch the Helags and Anjan tents to keep them happy and healthy. Because of their structure, these models do not have door bands in their vestibules. The curved patterning on their outer tent walls would cause the door bands to lift off the ground and be a trip hazard.For all our tents, we recommend that you peg down all the peg loops around the entire perimeter of the tent in most conditions. For the Anjan and Helags models specifically, regardless of whether you peg the other loops, it is important that you always at least peg down the peg loop by the pole next to the vestibule door, and that you pull this peg point a little bit forward.Pitching your Anjan and Helags models this way prevents the pole from shifting when you open the vestibule door, which would put a lot of stress on the zipper and the surrounding fabric. As an experienced photographer and nature guide, she has spent much of her life exploring the arctic regions of Europe. Hilleberg Tent Talk with Günter Wamser and Sonja Endlweber Hilleberg The Tentmaker 2020-06-24 | In this Hilleberg Tent Talk, recorded in October 2019, Petra sits down with Günter Wamser and Sonja Endlweber to talk about the epic, decades-long nomadic adventure of traveling, by horse, from Tierra del Fuego to Alaska and beyond. The pair relate to Petra Hilleberg stories of their “slow travel” through the Americas, the life of true nomads, living with horses, riding prison inmate-trained Mustangs and, of course, living in Hilleberg tents. Günter Wamser is an aircraft engineer by training, but for the last three decades, he has lived as a nomadic adventurer. He began traveling in Africa and South America with motorcycles, then switched to horses. In 1994, he began his “long ride” from the tip of South America to Alaska – a journey lasting over 30 years. It took Sonja Endlweber, who worked as a business consultant, just one of Günter’s slide presentations to know that her calling was to ride horses through the Americas. She convinced Günter to let her join him and has been riding ever since. The pair have spent many years traveling from South America to Mexico, then Mexico to Canada, and most recently through North America to Alaska. It is also surprisingly easy to set up, and it can be erected by one person in good weather. Designed with professional use in mind, the Stalon XL can be configured in nearly endless ways. It can serve as a classroom for adventure outfitters; a mobile medical station, command center, or staging/briefing room for search and rescue teams; or as a field dormitory for any large group. Each module of the tent can be zipped on or off to accommodate the needs of the user, and multiple modules can be easily connected or disconnected as necessary. Dome construction makes the Rogen a great choice for tough pitching situations. It is quick and easy to set up, boasts two doors and two vestibules, and has room enough for two plus their gear – yet it is easily light enough for use as a (wonderfully roomy) solo tent.The pole system employs two long, crossing poles for the basic shape and a shorter pole in the roof, which both increases stability and provides head room in the vestibules. In fine weather, rolling away the vestibules exposes the near-full mesh inner tent doors for cross venting. It is that simple. The stronger the fabric on your outer tent is, the less likely it is to tear because of bad weather, rough handling, or inadvertent mistakes.Our Kerlon fabrics are coated, on both sides, with a total of three layers of 100 percent silicone. Certainly, they are completely waterproof and very light, but our process also imparts a strength to the base material that is an order of magnitude greater than is possible with the more common polyurethane coating. Perhaps more importantly, our coated Kerlon fabrics are also far, far stronger than so-called “siliconized” materials, which typically employ a coating mixture of silicone and other compounds.This means that we can start with lighter weight base fabrics and still produce outer tent materials that are stronger overall, and, in the case of Kerlon 1800, 1200, and 2500, that are stronger than a great many of the so-called “expedition grade,” heavy duty tent materials on the market (even our lighter Kerlon 1000 fabric is more robust than many of those fabrics). Its excellent combination of light weight, simplicity and impressive comfort make it ideal for backpacking and other warmer weather backcountry adventures.Part of the Hilleberg Yellow Label series of lightweight, snow-free adventure/3-season models, the Anaris weighs just 1.4 kg/3 lb 1 oz and yet has a generous 2.6 sq m/28 sq ft of inner tent area and over 110 cm/43 in of headroom. Both inner tent entrance walls, including the doors, are no-see-um mesh, which, along with the catenary patterning on the outer tent walls ensure excellent full-time airflow. The new Anaris also offers remarkable flexibility. Both doors on both vestibules can be partially or fully rolled away, allowing even more venting options, and either or both of the Anaris’s sides can be fully rolled up. Like all Hilleberg tents, the Anaris has linked inner and outer tents, allowing either simultaneous pitching or separate use. Used on its own, the outer tent is a supercharged tarp, thanks to its multiple options for rolling the ends or the sides.
