KNOW | Ein Astronaut Ein Astronaut 2019-07-29 | This song is called "KNOW". It's been recorded on a tape reel that's more than 20 years old, using a Fostex G16s tape machine. My first band recordings were made on this machine over 20 years ago, too so it's lovely to have it in my studio now! The video has been recorded on a RED Dragon X - so both, audio and video, were kind of a test run. Arabesque No.1 (Debussy) | Ein Astronaut Ein Astronaut 2019-04-02 | A few years ago when I started practising lucid dreaming, there was one lucid dream in which I had intended to play my piano. When I sat down to play in that dream, something was odd: all of the keys were playing wrong notes, totally random. I was a little disappointed but then I said "show me something amazing!" First nothing happened but as I was just about to leave, the piano began playing itself: A very complex piece which I couldn't remember upon awakening. I was totally baffled and thought "wow, this kind of complex music is in my head but my fingers aren't able to let it come out?" From that day on my relationship to playing piano had changed and I'd soon start taking lessons - my first music lessons ever. Now, almost three years later I'm able to play something similar to what probably had appeared in that dream... and there has rarely been a day since then that I wouldn't have been hitting some keys! I wonder if Debussy was a lucid dreamer, too! What started as a „side effect“ is now becoming more and more fun. I really enjoy scrolling through all our takes again in search of beautiful moments that show the workflow and give you an idea of the atmosphere that helped create the music. It’s also a good way for me to reflect on how the particular artist has inspired me with his/her very own unique workflow and style, what I have learned and want to remember or implement into my own process.That’s also why I’ve decided to give those „MiniDocs“ their own slot. It seems like I can’t sing in German. It’s my mother tongue and the language I’m talking in most of the time but singing in it feels strange and the result has never satisfied me so far. I’m not quite sure what’s the reason for this. Maybe the way I sing doesn’t really fit with the way German words sound. You somehow have to sing them different than English words to make them sound good.Playing drums to a guitar track can be quite tricky. Normally, a drummer is responsible for the basic dynamic of a song. When the dynamic is already set by another instrument it can be a little challenging to make the drumbeat fit. For this song we recorded the guitar first because it had already existed as an acoustic live version and we wanted to adapt our version to that „drive“.
