* Learn stranded colourwork: you can still sign up for our “Learn to Knit a Fair Isle Vest”. Session 1 has been recorded and it available for viewing. Session 2 takes place, live, on May 13. You have a full year to review the recordings and work along with us on your techniques. rowanconnect.net/how-to-knit-a-fairisle-vest-2025

* Learn intarsia: with Georgia Farrell while making her favourite sweater: “Collage”. Georgia’s 8 session class began on April 28 and the second session was on April 5th but there’s still time to join in. And like, all the Summer Term classes, the recorded sessions are available for a full year. rowanconnect.net/collage-sweater-course-with-georgia-farrell
And registration is open for the next Rowan Connect Weekend taking place May 30, 31 and June 1. We’ll be teaching a “Learn to Crochet” class using a classic and easy-to-learn pattern by Erika Knight called “Lullaby”.
Rowan Connect: https://www.rowanconnect.live/
And free, with your Rowan Connect registration, are many complimentary sessions. If you are looking for a knit-a-long to inspire you this summer, be sure to join Chloe Thurlow for a look through all the Rowan Knit Alongs.

* We just recently made our full workshop: Magic Loop Mittens into a published video: youtu.be/NdUum0v-No8
* We have reposted our visit to see Linda Timms at the Blue Barn Quilt Company as a stand alone video on our “Places to Go, People to See” playlist: youtu.be/4nat0W6nGR4
🩷 Coming up 🩷
* April 13 at Fiberside Chats: Anna Johanna. “Enjoying the Process - Mindful Knitting and Colorwork”. In this fast-paced world, even knitting can sometimes become all about being quick and productive. But stranded knitting takes a bit of concentration and forces you to slow down - while also providing you with a lovely dopamine rush as you get to admire the colorwork patterns taking shape. In this Fiberside Chat, Anna Johanna will be discussing her love of colorwork and slow making, letting things take time. Details: payhip.com/Yarniversity/events
* April 26 (Saturday) is Local Yarn Shop Day.
* April 27 at Fiberside Chats: Bristol Ivy. “Meaning in Every Stitch: Adding Secret Messages to Your Knitting!” We add love, thoughtfulness, and sometimes a few swear words into every project. But have you ever thought about adding a secret message? In this chat, Bristol will present several different ways to add hidden meanings to your work: important words, special dates, song lyrics and more. Together, we’ll explore the larger world of stitch pattern creation, from lace to texture to mosaic to cables. Details: payhip.com/Yarniversity/events
🩷 April 29 is the first online class in our new summer series class for Rowan, called “How to Knit a Fair Isle Vest”. We’ll be using a recently published vest pattern, called “Bramley” by Lisa Richardson, to teach participants how to knit a garment and use stranded colourwork techniques. Book your spot here: rowanconnect.net/how-to-knit-a-fairisle-vest-2025

We thought you might like the opportunity to sit in on a class that we offered earlier in the year. The class is about how to work small projects in the round using magic loop. You'll need a copy of the Magic Loop Mittens pattern, a small amount of worsted weight yarn, 3.75mm (US. 4) and 4.0mm (US5) circular needles, 80cm / 32 in long or size needed to obtain gauge, a few locking stitch markers, a tapestry needle and a short length (30cm / 12in) of a smooth waste yarn in a fingering weight (for a stitch holder).

🟣 Magic Loop Mittens:
We've added a tutorial video that we made for socks but could also apply to mittens. It’s “how to cast on two socks at the same time, magic loop style”. Because the cuff of a sock and the cuff of mittens are the same, you can use this cast on technique for either project.
💚 The tutorial video is called: “Simultaneous Sock Cast On Magic Loop”:
youtu.be/JN--5mrNLEU.
You can this video, and more on our YouTube Channel under the playlists: “Cast On and Bind Off Techniques for Knitting” and “How to Videos for Knitters”
🟣 Felted Slippers
🟣 Learn a Little Lace (Beaded) Wristlets
🟣 Stranded Colourwork for Beginners
🟣 Crochet for Knitters
🩷 Barb has been inspired by two books: “Embroidery : A Modern Guide to Botanical Embroidery” by Arounna Khounnoraj and "Embroidery on Knits" by Judit Gummlich.
💚 Cynthia used Briggs & Little Durasport in her first woven blanket: josyarngarden.ca/collections/briggs-little/products/b-l-durasport-smoke
💚 The next woven blanket will use Ancient Arts Heritage yarn: ancientartsfibre.com/collections/heritage-local-alberta-yarn

Barb and Cynthia are pleased to announce that we're rebranding. Effective Monday, July 10, you'll be able to find us at yarniversity.ca (as well as by our old address: rivercityyarns.com).
For many years, Barb and Cynthia owned and operated a beautiful yarn shop in Edmonton called River City Yarns. They brought in yarns from all over the world, taught classes and held events to support their local community. In a desire to reach more people, they started a podcast, opened an online store and travelled all over the world in search of great teachers, ideas and techniques to bring back to Edmonton. In 2023, Barb and Cynthia made the decision to retire from retail sales and concentrate on the community building, teaching and design side of the business.
"We had the dream of creating an online place for you to come for motivation, ideas and how to make it happen. We're bringing the best instructors to you. We have a great design line that keeps growing and we're building a crafting community that is supportive and engaging."
To complete this dream, we're rebranding. We hope you'll continue to journey along with us!
