Skaian Splendor (Homestuck) MadMegatax 2023-01-06 | And what a journey it was.Round 6 of POE was Fantastic Voyages, and I spent a day thinking super hard about what to edit for it. Especially since this theme gave me unfortunate flashbacks to a round from a previous POE... Then I went to sleep and dreamt that I should edit Homestuck. No, really. I'm 100% serious on this.It worked out because against all odds, this was my second highest scoring video. It feels like despite all the time that has past, I'm right back where I started LOL.Anyway, the rest of this description is just talking about Homestuck stuff, so you're probably better off not reading it.For the longest time, I thought I never wanted to edit Homestuck again. I considered Game Over (specifically how Rose's death was handled) a big jump the shark moment. I hated how the retcon fundamentally changed how the comic would be experienced as an archival vs serial reader. I thought A6A6I5 was an abrupt stop in story movement so that everyone could have feel good talks when they didn't necessarily feel earned. I thought Collide was actually pretty boring because everything went exactly as planned with how they outlined who should fight what. Act 7... at its premise is actually an okay closer because that's what the adventure was about, but because of the huge detour that was Act 6 it didn't feel as rewarding as it could have been. And to cap it off, I thought The Homestuck Epilogues were pretty bad and Homestuck^2 was god awful.So I'm actually kinda glad POE had this as the final theme, since it allowed me to think about Homestuck again in the context of a long adventure to the end goal. And I absolutely love that part of Homestuck! It's no coincidence that most of my videos (including this one) are focused on the Beta Kids, since they were the ones I connected to the most as they stumbled through understanding how to play SBURB. And over time, as my distaste towards the final parts of Homestuck cooled, the one thing I regretted about dropping Homestuck editing is that I never did anything with Act 7. To me, this video feels like a big bookend for all these things that I've done (with Homestuck). Hehe.One final thing I'd like to mention: shout out to the folks behind the Unofficial Homestuck Collection! I was worried about the Homestuck experience disappearing due to the removal of Flash, but this is now probably the definitive way anyone should experience Homestuck (certainly not whatever mangled mess currently exists on the official site). It also solves one of my major complaints about the retcon, since it allows you to experience Homestuck as a serial reader with none of the retcon elements present until they actually appear in story.Anyway, that wraps up everything I edited for Project Org Editor! If you ever wanted to play V3 and haven't gotten around to it yet, I highly recommend not watching this until you have.I uploaded my first Danganronpa vid VIP exactly 5 years ago today (2/10/2017). And then starting in September of that year I began playing through V3 as soon as it was released globally, going in completely blind. There was a good amount of time afterwards that I thought about the game nonstop. I don't think this is my favorite game of the series, but it resonated with me the most emotionally. And I guess I thought about it so hard that eventually I came up with this idea.As for the video itself... I started working on it July 2018 (at least that's when I created the file) so between all the other Danganronpa vids I released, this was actually the main project for 3.5 years. A lot of it was spent working on a two second segment and then dropping it for six months haha. I had certain deadlines in mind to finish this by (10th anniversary of Danganronpa, anniversary of V3 release...) but whoops never actually reached those goals. Well at least this date is a suitable enough anniversary for me.Thanks to all the folks who helped me as I was making the vid! Chill Fantasy (MomoCon AMV Arena 2017) MadMegatax 2017-06-08 | This is the video I made during AMV Arena at MomoCon! The theme was High Fantasy and we were given a bunch of different fantasy setting shows to edit with (plus a secret source only revealed at the competition). However, like the title implies, this is more fun and chill than epic and grand. I did that because I was afraid I'd be bored if I edited a video with the latter theme, haha.We were given two hours, and since this was my first time doing something like this (both competing live and editing with multiple sources), I gave myself a goal of editing one minute of footage. And I totally beat that, and had enough time to add some more! So mission accomplished. B)...Though I wish I cleaned up that intro a bit, haha.In the end, I didn't win, but that's cool. Here Comes A Soul (Soul Eater) MadMegatax 2017-01-22 | Hey, have you heard about this cute show on Cartoon Network called Steven Universe? It's pretty good. =PI originally made this the week after the episode "Mindful Education" aired. I heard the song and was floored, it pretty much rocketed its way to the top of my list of favorite Steven Universe songs. Both the message of the song as well as the duet between Garnet and Stevonnie really resonated with me.I also happened to be rewatching Soul Eater at the time, and something just clicked for me. I feel it's not mentioned all that much, but one of my favorite things from Soul Eater is the friendships between characters. The mutual respect between Maka and Soul feels so refreshing, and Chrona's personal growth throughout the series thanks to Maka's support is really touching to me.(The way Chrona is treated is also the main reason I prefer the anime's ending to the manga's ending, whoops.)This video was originally made for AWA Pro 2016, and then I revised it based on some critiques for the final version. This Is Why We Fight (Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood) MadMegatax 2017-01-09 | Part 5 (and the final part) of my AMV Summer Bootcamp series!For the final round, the theme was adventure, and I decided to go with Fullmetal Alchemist on this one! I'll be straight up: I don't really like this video. Even though there were two weeks for the final round, I really struggled with editing (maybe from burnout, maybe from not liking my idea as much as time went on). However, I finished it, so that's an accomplishment itself. I survived the AMV Summer Bootcamp!Some context for the video itself: I wanted to show the brothers' journey. I just love how throughout their journey they influence so many people, and they learn from that experience to ultimately get their happy ending. But while in the previous round my love of the source material was a strength, in this round it was a weakness. I just wanted to capture that feeling I had, but with so many different things showcasing that it ended up being messy and not all that cohesive. It makes for a good 64 episode anime, not so much an AMV. If I try something like this in the future, I'll definitely need to narrow my focus.Ultimately, this video got a 206 out of 300. I didn't even expect to score above 200, to be honest! But reading through the judges' comments, they had the same criticisms that I had, but they also had some positive comments about it too. It was very encouraging when I was feeling bluh about the whole thing. :)And that's it for my AMV Summer Bootcamp Series!
