At that time you couldn’t purchase a ready made one so I just designed my own, it was designed to fit a classic hakko soldering iron heater because back then I was still owning an old hakko clone soldering stations and I used it once or twice, it’s not something that I need very often because I don’t do a lot of functional 3D printing, I mostly do validation of enclosures with my 3D printer but when you need it you need. And so I need a few weeks back to place some threaded inserts into a 3D print, however since I don’t have any more of those old style hako 936 soldering stations I couldn’t use this, I’m all JBC and JBC clones these days.So I went on Aliexpress and interest enough, there are plenty of options right now, like this kid which comes with various size tool heads for dealing with various size threaded inserts and there is a selection of bundle kits that include a soldering iron model or you can get a cheap one like I did here, separately.So the idea is that you would remove the soldering iron tip from this and you install your threaded insert tool, and seems that I got my choice right, this fits just nicely and now I can adjust my temperature with his manual dial, you don't really need to go fancy with digital control for threaded inserts, just ballpark temperature setting will do fineI’ll start showing my next item by showing the box it came with and a picture of the item because the actual item is now installed in my car. I’ll follow up with some sample video but first a bit of background. I have this RCD330 media player in my VW Golf and this supports Apple Carplay via USB wired connection. That’s great because I can play my music and view Waze or Google Maps directly on its 7 inch screen.

It has been really helpful keeping the nasty soldering fumes away from my lungs and I highly recommend you get yourself some type of filtration if you do even occasional soldering for more than 15-20 minutes per session. I’ve been quite happy with my system because it wasn’t too expensive at the time of purchase, it ended up costing half of what a commercial system would have been and replacing the filters on this thing would be much cheaper also when compared to a commercial system. But in today's video I have received for review of such a commercial system and I would like to compare if it’s still a viable option to DIY or should you just buy one and save your time.One mention that I would like to make is that the commercial system we are looking at, is not directly intended for solder fumes extraction so it doesn’t come with accessories tailored to that, but in terms of filtration capability it should be adequate.The unit we are looking at today was sent in for free from Vevor.com for the purpose of this review but it currently sells for about 220 EUR shipped to the EU from their EU warehouse. I think they have multiple worldwide warehouses so you would have to check the cost for your specific location by clicking the link in the description.By comparison the unit that I built was composed of:Ducted 100mm fan, 26W of power, 198 m³/h, 2200 RPM, 31dB current price 87 EUR including shipping.4 inch carbon filter for hydroponics applications, current price 65 EUR including shipping.Hakko flexible segmented hose 160 EUR including shipping. Although expensive, this thing makes it really easy to use.Triac speed controller for the fan, a plug, some cable, roughly 10 EUR. I don’t really use the speed adjustment, I just use it on full blast every time for proper extraction so you don’t necessarily need the speed adjustment module.This brought the total to roughly 322 EUR which a few years ago was less than half of a professional fume extractor so back then it was worth spending the time to do a DIY system. I also wasn’t as busy as I am today. I also spent maybe another 20 EUR on some clamps and an additional flexible duct, I 3D printed an adapter, but those are not necessarily needed.However after all of that effort, I had clean air. Not a lot of suction power because of the thick filter and because I used an additional long duct, but it was useable, as long as I was soldering next to it, it sucked the fumes and there was absolutely nothing coming out of that filter, at least nothing that I could smell or see. It worked very well for me.

If these measurements are accurate, the calculated ones like energy and capacity will also be accurate.2nd is the functionality, ideally it should have a nice GUI giving me all the information I need, it should support remote voltage sensing. It should have easy battery testing functionality. Optionally I want a PC connection for data logging purposes.3rd is the build quality. I want this thing to last so it has to be built well, I want it to be safe to use, I don’t want this to be an electrical shock hazard or have the risk of burning down. So we’re going to check all of these things in this video/Unit was nicely packed and protected, I just haven’t kept the packaging to show it on video. Inside the box we get the electronic load itself, a mains IEC cable and some spare fuses with a user manual which is actually quite clear and easy to follow.Now let’s start talking about the specs of the unit: It can do 400W max. 0-150V, 0-40A so whichever voltage/current combo you choose it has to be 400W max. It has a resolution of 1mV 1mA but depending on the range it switches to 10mV, 10mA above 20V and 3A. It supports the usual operating modes of Constant Current, Constant Voltage, Constant Resistance and Constant Power. But it also adds Transients test mode, Battery test mode and very interestingly LED test mode where it simulates the characteristics of an LED diode which starts drawing current based on its forward voltage biasing. In terms of protection features, once again we have the standard ones, over voltage, over current, over power and over temperature.On the back of the unit we have the IEC mains input socket, this works with a universal input, a USB port for PC connectivity and this interesting looking pluggable screw connectors that hosts an optional RS232 interface, an optional RS485 interface, one trigger input and two outputs, one that signals test in progress and another one that signals test pass/fail result. These guys are open collector outputs which is awesome because you can pull them up to your desired voltage level. There are some additional pins in here which are unused and disappointingly this unit doesn’t appear to support remote voltage sensing. We’ll have a closer look at how this affects our measurement accuracy in a few minutes.On the front of the unit we have a 2.8 inch TFT color display with a resolution of 320x240 pixels. We have a clicky power switch, rotary encoder knob, dedicated buttons for the main functions and a bunch of additional buttons here for navigating the GUI and selecting the additional functions. The banana input connectors are spaced at about 47mm distance, that’s not standard spacing, although you probably wouldn’t use any standard spacing pluggable connectors on an electronic load. While they feel solid, they feel like cheap banana connectors. We’ll take a look later at how well these can handle higher currents and if their temperature rises.

We’ll try to answer that question in today's video and let’s start with some of the specs of the Sugon 8650.This is one of the most powerful stations on the market both in heater power and delivered volume of air boosting 1300W in heating power, with up to 200L/min air volume with the same temperature range of 100 to 550°C. So it’s already looking better in terms of specs with higher power and higher volume of air. And as we will see later in the video the Sugon 8650 is also more versatile due to the way the implemented the user interface.By the way if you would like to purchase one of these after watching the review video, there will be a link in the description below to their website which is currently selling the unit discounted and you can get it for this special price until August 1st..Unit comes very nicely packed and protected and inside the box we get the station itself which feels heavier than I was expecting, this is usually a good thing. We also get a power cable, an ESD strap, a bunch of accessories like different nozzles and a very sturdy stand for the tool. There are a total of 8 nozzles included in the package with a mix of both straight and angled nozzles, personally I prefer to use the angled nozzles because they feel more ergonomic and they can be very useful especially when trying to work under a microscope, helps keep the handle out of the way of the microscope lens.Two of the included nozzles are the swirling type which personally I haven’t used before but I think these are supposed to give a more even temperature distribution in the stream of air coming out of the nozzle. So based on this unboxing, again the Sugon 8650 offers more than what’s included with the BST-863.On the back of the unit we have the IEC mains input socket, no externally accessible fuse, and an earthing point. Strangely the label on the back has two ratings power 1000W and max power 1300W so we’ll have to check later if this really is providing 1300W of heating power.On this side we have an integrated tool holder and this can work well if you don’t want to use the extra, standalone tool holder which takes up more space on your workbench. But the provided external tool holder really is one of the nicest I’ve seen. First of all it’s very heavy, feels like it’s entirely cast from thick metal, no risk of typing this over, There is an integrated nozzle holder and this can also double as an active nozzle switching area, so while the nozzle is hot you can easily switch to a different one, I quite like how they have this clamp mechanism built-in so the nozzle is not going to fly away, and there is this built-in gap when the nozzle slides in on the handle to allow for the thickness of this holder, really nice attention to detail.

You’ll have to stick around with me in this video to learn about the full capabilities of this tool but just to give you an idea of what this tool can do: it allows you to capture and analyze on the same interface analog inputs, digital inputs, digital outputs in a logic analyzer style that you are used to, but on top of that it ads this Active Debug interface, which you can integrate into your firmware as a snippet of code which then allows you to output whatever data you want via a standard printf, which goes via a 1 or 2 wire interface to this device and have that captured and analyzed in the provided software.Through the video I will be showcasing a short demo I put together but I will also be referencing short clips from a webinar that Active Pro put together for their tool so I highly recommend you check out their webinar by hitting the link below. Same as always, full disclosure, this tool was sent in for free for the purpose of this review but whatever I discover good or bad will be presented in this video.Unit comes in this little nice box, it’s pretty compact, and has a USB Type-C port. Inside the box you get a USB Type-C to Type-A cable, a set of very nice silicone wire jumper leads and the compatible mini hooks for probing.Now for those of you curious about the insides of this device, the website shows that proudly but if you are looking for higher resolution images, I’m gonna open my unit up. The enclosure is 3D printed by the way, but on a high quality Multi Jet Fusion printer and it looks very nice. The devices we have here are the Cypress cy7c68014, which is a high-speed USB capable microcontroller. You typically find these USB microcontrollers from Cypress on devices which just need a reliable way of interfacing via USB. There is a little bit of flux residue around this guy, which makes me think this is an early prototype which maybe they had to rework.There is an ICE40UP5 from Lattice. This is a UltraPlus family FPGA with 5280 logic cells. This guy is for sure in charge of the high speed hardware decoding and then packing that data and sending it to the PC via the USB MCU from Cypress.Then we have another MCU from Cypress the CY8C5888LT, this time it’s a 32 bit PSOC 5, Cortex-M3 with built-in DACs, ADCs and all you can think of. If I would have to guess, this guy is in charge of the actual input/output capture of data. It’s interesting that they have a two MCU solution, one dedicated to USB and another one for the rest of the stuff but it’s understandable because the Cortex-M3 guy only supports a more limited USB Full Speed at 12Mbps while the more specialized USB MCU can handle more throughput up to 53Mbps.

And at first, when Reolink reached out to me to send this product for a review I thought, this is not going to be interesting for my viewers, I don’t necessarily need an extra security camera so I was about to turn down the offer when I noticed that this camera actually has a dual lens system which allows you to view both a close-up and a wide-view of the scene and surely this is a very interesting feature that if you ever installed a security camera you wished you had.So this is a small bullet IP camera, it has PoE capability, it can record on a microsd card or an NVR or FTP server of your choice, it is IP66 waterproof rated, you get a nice ReoLink app for viewing the camera remotely, it’s got color night vision and various detection features among other things that we will review in this video. Full disclosure as always this unit was sent in for free for the purpose of this review and should you decide to order one, there will be some links in the description below and they are currently running a promotion so you can get this camera with a discount from its normal price.As you can see camera is very compact, comes with the adjustable mounting stand. On the front we notice the two lenses, two IR leds, one white light LED, this looks like the speaker for the 2way audio and on the back side we have a screw panel which hides the SD card. Connectors include caps which is nice, so we have the RJ45 Ethernet PoE connector, we have the DC 12V input if you prefer to use that and you also have a reset switch. I don’t have a Reolink NVR or any NVR for that matter so I will be inserting an SD card to record some test footage during the review process and please keep in mind that this camera only supports an sd card up to 256GB which Reolink claims can record continuously for up to 58 hours with default settings but before we continue Setting up the camera with the Reolink app was a very smooth and quick process, I mean if you already have the Reolink app installed and you already have an account with them, you just have to power the camera, and it will automatically be detected on the network in a matter of seconds. Then it will ask you to create a password for accessing the camera, a name for the camera and that’s pretty much all that’s needed. Then you can swipe left or right and you can view the two live video feeds. You can even view them both at the same time with the so-called immersive view option.This is my first time interaction with the Reolink app but it feels pretty intuitive, you have the different camera snapshots on the main screen, you can enter a particular view, you get a few controls at the top, for example you can manually sound a siren or you can manually turn on the color night vision mode which enables the white LED or you can turn on immersive view, where it shows both streams at the same time. My personal thoughts about color night vision on security cameras is that it’s super nice, but at the same time, having that white light, clearly gives the camera position away to people passing by, clearly attracts attention so I personally keep that feature turned off on my other security cameras which support it.In terms of viewing and downloading footage there are a couple of ways of doing it but to get the highest quality, you need to select the option for quality that says “clear”. As for download of footage it is best to switch to normal view, select high quality where it says “clear” then find your footage, next click download where you can once again select the start and stop of your clip which you can then download.

They also have TC001 which is identical but for Android with USB Type-C and there is also a TC004 which is a standalone unit with a 2.8inch display among other products in their offer.I’ve seen some comments on my previous review videos that it’s not really a good idea to buy an accessory like this camera with a lightning connector because Apple is going to remove the lightning connector this year and you’re left stranded. Well let me share a few thoughts on why I don’t necessarily agree with that idea.First, people have been saying that Apple is going to remove the lightning connector for the past 4-5 years or so, and did they remove it? No! So you should never purchase something on a promise of a future addition of a feature and I think the same can be said about removal of a feature because you don’t know when and if that’s going to happen.The second thought is that even if apple removes the lightning connector on it’s next device releasing this fall. You probably still have a lightning connector iphone and most people will probably still have it for at least a couple of years more and it will continue to be perfectly usable. But let me know if you guys have a different opinion. I would love to hear about it in the comments below.So the TOPDON TC002 was sent in for free for the purpose of this review and I said why not take a look at a different implementation of the Infiray thermal sensor. How do I know it’s an Infiray thermal sensor? Well for a start it’s the same resolution 256x192, same high refresh rate of 25Hz and same temperature range -20°C to 550°C, features look similar, there are only a handful of thermal imaging sensor manufacturers so I’m pretty sure the sensor inside this camera is Infiray.But Infiray supplies just a framework and it’s up to the individual OEMs to provide a functional package to the user. And depending on their resources they can come up with better apps for examples that enhance the sensor capability.Inside the package we are greeted with the sight of the protective case, thumbs up for that as some cameras or test instruments from other manufacturers do not include the EVA protective case. We also get a lightning extension cable, which is braided but kinda stiff, I like my USB cables to be a bit more flexible, we also get a lint free cleaning cloth and the camera itself seated in its cutout.The app you need to install is very intuitively called TC002 so it’s an easy find on the App Store. It is installed in just a few seconds and upon connecting the camera, it is detected in the upper right corner. You select first option thermal imaging and it starts in the iron color palette which is my favorite. Min max temperatures as well as target crosshair temperatures are displayed by default.

This unit was sent to me for free by xinfrared.com for the purpose of this review, they also sell on amazon so I encourage you to checkout the links in the description below to find out more about them.This camera is likely using exactly the same thermal sensor from infiray inside, because it advertises the same resolution of 256x192 which is a very good thermal imaging resolution for this price range and as I mentioned in Voltlog #442, these sensors are not limited to just a few fps as the thermal sensors coming from the united states, but instead offer you a very nice refresh rate of 25Hz.What’s different about the T2S Plus is that it comes with an adjustable 8mm lens plus this nice handle mount accessory to bring everything into a compact, single hand usage package. So you can clamp your phone in here, clamp the camera on the front side and then you can adjust the focus of the camera using the manual adjustment. This is generally intended for inspection work of electrical panels, distribution boxes, electrical motors, HVAC stuff heating/cooling but they also claim PCB inspection. So we’ll see how close that 8mm lens allows us to adjust later during testing.This mount seems to have a good build quality, it’s made out of plastic, feels very ergonomic, you have multiple tripod mounting points, one at the bottom of the handle, several on the phone and camera clamps which are made of metal and feel very strong.Inside the box we get the camera inside a nice EVA hard carry case and it’s got a warning not to point the camera at the sun. Next to this we get some lint free cleaning cloth. Separate from the box, I also got this lightning extension cable which makes it possible to mount the camera in the special holder and run the wire to the actual phone.But upon seeing the live feed, which started in a black and white image mode, I was immediately mesmerized by the high resolution and high refresh rate. It almost makes you think this is an actual visible light image, as you can see here in this sample video looking at my cluttered desk, you can clearly identify the objects on my desk, you can see them in high detail and all just from the thermal imager, all at this high refresh rate making everything look very fluid.Next I switched to my favorite view which is the iron type color palette and I started exploring the app. Everything works smoothly. You have the video and image capturing modes as well as color mode at one side while the other side has a few options for placing some temperature measurement markers either as a point, as a rectangle or as a line. You can also adjust the temperature units Celsius or Farenheit, you can trigger the calibration shutter manually and you can adjust a few settings that influence the measurement accuracy: things like emissivity, distance, correction.

I’m also sure many of my viewers enjoy these videos judging by the highest number of views they get when compared to my other videos.I’m gonna start the video with this CC1101 based module, this has to be one of the most popular sub 1GHz radio chips out there, been on the market for at least 10 years but it’s still an active part, Texas Instruments even released a pin to pin compatible, lower cost version called CC110L which lost some of its features to be cheaper.My plan is to try and connect this to something like an esp32 and depending on firmware support choose one of the popular platforms like Tasmota, ESPHome or other to create an RF bridge to HomeAssistant. This way I could capture signals that are emitted by my smoke detectors which have a built-in radio signaling option. So this little module should help me experiment with that but ofcourse there are many other possibilities like Remote Control for RF remotes.Next up I have a couple of charging modules and we all know the famous TP4056 linear charging IC for lithium polymer batteries, 5V 1A, some boards came with battery protection IC + mosfet, some without, but they all had the infamous micro USB connector. Well it’s about time we see an upgrade to at least just using a newer USB Type-C connector if not a better newer IC so I found these two options on Aliexpress. This first one is based on the TP4057 set for 1A charging current. As far as I can tell there is no obvious difference between TP4056 and TP4057, might even be just a rebadged TP4056 chip in here. Additionally there seems to be additional chip in here in charge of battery protection. This chip is labeled MKF2L and no results show up on a google search but it must be integrating both mosfets and protection circuit into this package.

First a few words about the solar panel I think it’s the correct size for this power station giving reasonable charging times, it’s a very nice build quality, does the job it was created for so it’s definitely worth getting it if you plan to recharge on the go from the sun.About the power station, at least for me it is a perfect size both in terms of battery capacity but also physically and weight wise a much better fit for me than the bigger blitzwolf station that I reviewed previously.It’s got lithium ion cells so not the best when you compare to lithium ion phosphate in terms of safety and number of cycles but in this price range, lithium ion cells is what you get which again are perfectly fit for purpose. However one thing to watch for is the temperature range which they do mention in the manual it’s 0 to 40 degrees Celsius, don’t try to charge this in below zero temperatures as that will damage the batteries, I think it even has a protection feature that will prevent you from doing that.In terms of dc outputs and features, it definitely has less ports and less capability than bigger power stations but unless you have some very specific use cases for those, it’s no use to you for just ticking them on a paper spec sheet. For example it’s no use to me if the blitzwolf station really outputs 3A on the USB Type-A ports instead of 2.4A on this guy because my phone is going to accept a maximum of 2.4A anyway. But I do agree that they should update their user manual to include the real specifications for these USB ports because it creates confusion and disappointment if the user expect 3A and it’s not getting it.USB Type-C port has just 65W output even though it claims 100W, but Maybe that just some miss communication when they wrote the user manual, I don’t know. Bottom line being that 65W on a USB-C should be enough for most people using this when traveling.The Wireless charger is unusable unless you have some kind of flat device that might be able to align with the charging pad, my phone just doesn’t fit very well in there, not even if I rotate it 90 degrees.A big advantage of this power station is that it comes with this status screen and a bluetooth connection which makes it very easy to monitor if your outputs are on or off, how much power goes in or out, especially when charging with a solar panel or using the mains inverter. Also gives you control over the flashlight feature which is pretty nice to do in a camping type scenario.So because of the form factor, size and feature set this will be my next preferred power station to take with me when going on a trip. Might be a different set of requirements for you but definitely worth checking this one out if you are in the market for such a gadget. I’m gonna start with this VOLTME dual USB Type-C phone charger. So recently I’ve upgrade my phone and watch, I am charging them with the original wireless chargers which both have USB Type-C on the adapter end. I was not particularly interested in the output power, because I charge at night time exclusively so it doesn’t really bother me if I’m not reaching full power but I wanted the charger to be as small as possible to make it easy to carry during travels as well. So I came across this brand and this particular model, VOLTME, 30W max power, dual USB-C output, supposedly based on GAN transistors which would explain the tiny package. I mean look at how small this is, it’s incredible. Exactly what I needed in terms of power. I haven’t heard of this brand before but they claim they are an OEM for these so presumably you’ll see stuff like this under different branding as well, who knows maybe even as a BASEUS charger.I’ve got two of them, one I have been using for the past couple of months and I am really happy. For my personal use this charger is perfect. My watch needs 5V 5W while my iPhone needs 15W which is likely not getting it while charging at the same time with the watch, but like I said, not needed in my case because of the long hours during night charging.So a bit of clarification, even though this brick is rated for 30W it can only do that if one of the USB ports is used, so that it will negotiate to a USB Type-C Power Delivery voltage like 15V or 20V to deliver all that power. But since I’m also plugin in a second device which negotiates down to 5V, both ports will stay at 5V, limiting the total output to 3A I believe, so just 15W.It makes sense because the charger is very small so they probably don’t have the space for the dual output converter in there. The logo lights up which might be a problem like it was in my case because I’m running it right on my nightstand socket but I masked it with some black tape so it’s all good.

I did a review of it in Voltlog #330.As explained in that video a current probe is not something that everyone needs, certainly not required for the average hobby projects, it’s more of a special tool that is used whenever you need to take a look at the current waveform in a high speed isolated manner. That could mean looking at the current waveforms for various parts of a switch mode power supply circuit AC or DC, power factor correction or for the current waveform at the input of a particular load, measuring inrush currents or like in automotive you would want to look at the waveform when driving an fuel injector coil. You wouldn’t use something like this for measuring the power usage of your low power microcontroller because you would be in the noise level of what this instrument can do.So that was a short introduction and I also have to mention that back then the Micsig CP2100A and the other variant CP2100B were considered high bandwidth probes at 800KHz and 2.5MHz respectively. Well Micsig recently released a newer model the CP503 which I have here for review. This unit has been provided by Micsig through their EU distributor ELESHOP which I highly recommend you checkout if you are looking to order one of these in the EU, a link will be provided in the description below.And this model can go up to 50MHz and 100MHz depending on the variant you choose.Additionally they also have two connection methods or variants of this probe, you could have the standard, universal BNC connection which would work for any oscilloscope input but now you can also have the UPI interface which is supported on their newer Osciloscope like the STO1004 which I reviewed in Voltlog #438.The advantage of having the UPI interface is that there are additional data and power pins, besides the BNC signal connection. This means you can have active circuitry built into your probe, calibration data, the scope can talk to the probe, read that data and decide how to adjust scope parameters based on that. So in my case I have the UPI interface version but you can also get it as a standard BNC interface which will work with any oscilloscope.As we notice the CP503 has a totally different form factor, I like both of these form factors, I haven’t seen any limitation with either but I’m sure that this thinner one would work better for when you need to probe within some tight spaces. I have the CP503 model here which is rated for 50MHz, while the CP1003 is rated for 100MHz. But the differences between the two models pretty much stop at bandwidth which is huge BTW, I mean any kind of power supply system you might be working on, this will got you covered.
