5 Bible Verses Abusive Church Leaders Use to Control You Roys Report 2026-08-28 | What happens when Bible verses meant to guide Christians are used instead to silence questions, demand loyalty and protect leaders from accountability? In this episode of The Restore Report, Lance Ford counts down five passages that unhealthy and abusive church leaders repeatedly hide behind - and shows why the problem is not Scripture itself, but what happens when Scripture is pulled out of context and made to say something God never intended.The countdown moves from “Touch not the Lord’s anointed” and “Judge not,” to warnings about becoming an “accuser of the brethren,” demands that every concern must follow Matthew 18, and finally Hebrews 13:17: “Obey your leaders and submit to them.” Ford shows how these passages can be used to shut down scrutiny, discredit the person raising a concern, control how misconduct is reported and construct a theology in which resisting a pastor begins to feel like resisting God.But each passage looks very different when read in its biblical context. Psalm 105 does not create a protected class of untouchable Christian leaders. Jesus’ warning against hypocritical judgment does not eliminate righteous discernment. Revelation 12 does not make every truthful allegation satanic. Matthew 18 was never designed as a gag order that forces abuse victims into private confrontation. And Hebrews 13 calls Christians to be responsive to faithful leaders while also emphasizing those leaders’ example and accountability - never giving pastors absolute authority over another person’s conscience or life.The larger issue is the pattern created when all five texts are placed together: the person with the most power can end up with the least accountability. Lance closes with five questions Christians can ask whenever Scripture is used to demand compliance, along with a pastoral word to those who now hear the voice of an abusive leader whenever they encounter certain Bible verses. His encouragement is to return to the text slowly, in context, without that leader standing over your shoulder. When Speculation Becomes “Scripture” Roys Report 2026-08-11 | What happens when a Christian teacher starts with a Bible verse, adds personal revelation, inference and speculation, and then presents the whole package as though Scripture teaches it? In this episode of The Restore Report, Lance Ford examines the extraordinary alien teachings of charismatic minister Katie Souza and asks a simple but essential question: Where does the Bible stop, and where does the teacher begin?Souza says alien beings implanted an interdimensional device in her body as a child to harvest her eggs for hybrid children, and she connects those claims to passages including Genesis 6, Jude 6, Psalm 8 and the story of David and Goliath. Lance does not attempt to judge her personal experiences or sincerity. Rescuing Rachael: Naghmeh Panahi’s Fight Against Saeed Abedini Roys Report 2026-07-31 | After a long legal battle, a 5-year-old girl abducted from Turkey is back home with her mother, thanks in large part to the tireless efforts of abuse survivor advocate Naghmeh Panahi.The child, Rachael, was abducted by her father, Naghmeh’s ex-husband Saeed Abedini — an Iranian pastor who made international headlines when he was jailed for his faith from 2012 to 2016. At the time, Saeed was the poster child for religious persecution. But as RR has reported previously, behind the headlines was a dark secret. Eyewitnesses Accuse Phil Ryken of Misleading Public in Wheaton’s Latest Statement Roys Report 2026-07-25 | Did Wheaton College President Phil Ryken lie when he claimed in a recent statement that he apologized to the congregation of his previous church for mishandling abuse?In this stunning podcast, an eyewitness says yes. And he explains what really happened, which is a far cry from the statement Wheaton College recently released. The eyewitness — a Wheaton alumnus and retired federal postal inspector — says Ryken gave a weak apology in 2017 to a meeting of the Philadelphia Presbytery. He adds that no more than 100 of the then-1,300 to 1,400 congregants of Tenth Presbyterian Church, where Ryken formerly pastored, attended the meeting. And almost all of them, he says, had no idea what the meeting was about! Similarly, Kathy Gallagher — the ex-wife of alleged sexual predator and former administrator, Dennis Massaro — accuses Ryken of again misleading the public in a statement the college sent on Monday to its faculty and staff. The college claims it invited Kathy — whom Wheaton admits it harmed — to meet with trustees to tell her story and receive apologies. But Kathy says she was never invited to meet with the trustees. Instead, a lawyer offered to arrange an apology from the college, if that’s what Kathy desired. Kathy says the entire exchange was re-traumatizing.Kathy and her husband Doug Gallagher also dispute other claims in Wheaton’s latest statement. Though Wheaton says no other administrators have “been subject to NDAs” regarding the Massaro situation, Kathy says a former administrator told her to her face that he couldn’t talk about Massaro due to something Wheaton had him sign. Wheaton Refuses to Apologize Roys Report 2026-07-16 | Our reporting on Wheaton Colleg's cover-up of sex abuse of students by former administrator Dennis Massaro has prompted emails from concerned community members to Wheaton Board Chairman Dale Wong. But rather than publicly apologizing for what the college and President Phil Ryken did, Wong has replied with a deceptive and minimizing letter Wheaton sent to some of its community in 2024.Wong also claimed that Wheaton offered Massaro's victims and ex-wife an opportunity to meet with a trustee or group of trustees, so they could hear their stories and "offer appropriate apologies." But a victim and Massaro's ex-wife said that never happened. Ex-wife Kathy Gallagher did say she got an email from Wheaton's lawyer, saying if Gallagher was interested in receiving an apology, "I can arrange for that." Bill Gothards legacy: How his errant teaching enabled abuse Roys Report 2026-07-10 | What kind of legacy will Bill Gothard leave when he dies? The 91-year-old remains hospitalized, after a heart attack late last month. But since the 1970s, his teachings on family life, authority, submission and “basic life principles” have guided millions of evangelicals. Many found his instructions saved their families from chaos and helped them live “God’s way.” Yet, Gothard’s ministry has also been haunted for decades by credible allegations of abuse. In this episode of the Roys Report, senior reporter Daniel Silliman explores Gothard’s legacy with Don Veinot, author of “A Matter of Basic Principles: Bill Gothard and His Cultish Teachings.” According to Veinot, Gothard set up a system of authority that insulated him from accountability.
