Jeff Hansen | A Trip to Nintendo Co., Ltd. Headquarters (1992)

Forest of Illusion 2023-03-17 | In the fall of 1992, Nintendo World Champion Jeff Hansen was invited to Japan to play against Yuichi Suyama, a winning contestant on the popular TV show "Super Mario Club". After emerging victorious, Hansen was then taken for a tour of Nintendo's headquarters in Kyoto, with Seisuke Yamauchi, nephew of then Nintendo president Hiroshi Yamauchi, assisting with translation.

Super Mario World Localization Prototype FOUND! | Forest of Illusion

Forest of Illusion 2022-12-24 | Just before the year comes to an end, we managed to secure and preserve a prototype build of Super Mario World! Dated the 25th of October, 1990 – a whole ten months before the game would hit store shelves within North America, many differences to the final product can be noted.

Dated October 1st 2003, this disc was distributed to Nintendo Merchandising Inc representatives and shows what sort of damage to expect and look out for when working with GameCube kiosks and retail displays.

Cancelled GBA Quake Port FOUND! | Forest of Illusion

Forest of Illusion 2022-06-09 | The year is 2002, and Randy Linden is hard at work porting Quake to a little handheld system called the Game Boy Advance. If that name rings a bell, Linden is a veteran game developer best known for the creation of the BLEEM emulator as well as the groundbreaking SNES port of Doom—the latter of which was considered impossible by id Software themselves. Given his prior experience, a GBA port of Quake seemed like a logical step in his career. This unreleased prototype we present to you today was recently discovered on a 256M Flash Card in Linden’s storage, and is certainly a far cry from anything else developed for the handheld.

Nintendo NMI Safety Video | Forest of Illusion

Forest of Illusion 2022-06-04 | We have preserved an internal Nintendo employee safety video disc from 2004! The video was intended for Nintendo Merchandising Inc representatives and features Wario, who mentions that he is his own supervisor at Nintendo, as he assists the narrator in walking new hires through the safety precautions one must take when working with Nintendo retail products within stores.

Mario Kart Debug Disc FOUND! | Forest of Illusion

Forest of Illusion 2022-05-13 | Today we are releasing a post-release debug build of Mario Kart: Double Dash!! This build was created half a year after the game's original release date. It includes a debug menu, debug information, and even a symbol map that will help out the modding community.
