Mega Man 1 - Cut Man Bcutter 2020-05-07 | The tempo is lower than the original US version but faster than the Europe PAL version (all NES music was 17% slower in Europe, I did not know this growing up!). There are three main voices of the original song: the bass, the melody, and a middle voice. They are largely independent of each other and highly syncoped, each with its own rhythmic oddities and complexities (it seems like every note in this song is on an off-beat...). Shadowgate - Death and Ending Theme Bcutter 2018-12-14 | My two favorite themes from Shadowgate. The ending theme, also called Hero of Stormhaven, is perhaps less known, but it is one of the most beautiful pieces of music from NES in my opinion. You should find it here on youtube and listen to it before watching this. Find the sheet music here:Death Theme: http://draculasriddle.co.uk/sheets/shadowgatedeath.pdfEnding Theme: http://draculasriddle.co.uk/sheets/shadowgateend.pdfFrom now on, I will always include comments on the songs and my transcriptions, so here we go: The Death Theme in its original form is simple with only a melody and a bassline (the second melody channel is only used to create an echo effect). The choice of chords is therefore up for interpretation. The main difficulty in this arrangement is (apart from the somewhat hectic left hand 16ths in the middle part) the 16th triplet two-finger trills (check the sheet music to see what I am talking about). It requires high ring and pinky finger independence and took me weeks to master. One can avoid it by only playing the upper notes in those trills. The ending theme, Hero of Stormhaven, has no virtuosic parts but since the accompanying arpeggios are in triplets and the melody is mostly in straight 8ths, there are some tempo headaches in this one. Normally, straights over triplets is nothing special (albeit difficult for new students), but here you have to play them using the same hand (the right) to avoid the hands mashing together, and you must make sure to play the arpeggio notes much softer than the melody notes. This was particularly hard to get right.
