The new dart is designed using knowledge from aerodynamics and flight mechanics and aims to give players more control over their throw. Five top Dutch darts players, known as the TOTO Dart Kings, visited TU Delft on Tuesday, 18 April. They tried out the new dart and took part in scientific research, including an analysis of their throwing technique.
The players were impressed with the facilities and saw the potential of both the research and the redesigned dart to improve their performance and take the sport to new heights.

In the new paper of Daniel van den Berg, Delphine De Tavernier and Jan-Willem Van Wingerden, they discuss how the extra degrees of freedom of a floating wind turbine play an important role when transitioning wake mixing technology, like dynamic induction control, from bottom-fixed to floating turbines. This work, however, encompasses only a small portion of the potential for floating wind turbines. To illustrate this, they made this animation to share their vision for floating wind.

Gasten:
o Fokko Mulder, Full Professor Materials for integrated energy systems
o Mattijs Slee, CEO Battolyser Systems

Did you know that computers can report on local sports competitions? And that algorithms can write such good essays that you can use them to pass university courses? Why is it that computers can suddenly write such good texts? And should we now start worrying about our human authors?
It's probably happened to you at some point. Despite having looked up nothing, you suddenly get an ad that fits exactly what you want. For a moment, it seems like the tech companies know everything about you. Until you get a completely irrelevant ad. Where do these ads come from?
Every other year you hear Elon Musk say that Tesla's are very close to driving autonomously. The promise that as a young person you will no longer need a driving licence is in the air. However, experts at TU Delft will tell you it could take another 20 years. And maybe even longer. What makes it so difficult that computers still cannot drive a car?
From voice assistants to government risk assessments. And from self-driving cars to deep fakes. You hear more and more about artificial intelligence. But, how does the technology behind all these applications work? How is it possible a computer suddenly understands speech, language or images?
Be More You is a company which has specialised itself into a concept called “BrainRouting” and have developed themselves into the leading positions in this young field. The name itself gives a slight hint into what they are doing. Most interestingly, the key feedback in this method is directly taken from the brain via electrodes on your head bypassing any subjective filters like speech and thus relying on data with units such as Voltage and Hertz instead of the barrier that is human language.
To best share this experience with you, two of our board members have undergone the process of “BrainRouting”. A summary of what this looked like can be seen in this video.

As a kid, Chris Verhoeven dreamed of beetles walking on the Moon. Now that dream might become reality: next year the Lunar Zebro moon rover, that he built together with a team of students and other professors, will be tested for a real Moon mission. That means that if all goes well, his dream might become a reality.
Engineers make the impossible possible. So keep on dreaming.

What is the EngD? The EngD is a specialised design traineeship aimed at preparing qualified candidates with a MSc degree for the numerous challenges inherent in an industry-focused profession. The two year programme involves advanced courses that refine the technical knowledge of the trainee, while improving their understanding of economic and managerial aspects of design. Supplementing this is twelve months of hands-on industrial experience, in which this knowledge can be applied. Upon graduation, the trainee will have obtained an innovative attitude, a critical approach, and the capability to solve a wide array of practical design challenges.
In this trailer, water innovation expert Lindsey Schwidder talks about what it is like to see her research in the Rijksmuseum. ‘When I started working at TU Delft, I could not have imaged ending up in the Rijksmuseum. Or have imagined that my work would be on view in the Rijksmuseum,’ Lindsey says.
Curious about the rest of the story? Watch the entire video "A plea for climate art" on our YouTube channel.
Water innovation expert Lindsey Schwidder: ‘There are so many similarities between art and science. Museums, for example, do not only illustrate the links between past, present and future well, they also promote and ignite imagination. For scientists, imagination – the stimulation of the creative and the associative – is often the fuel that drives them to new insights or to making connections.’

How do your fellow students experience studying at TU Delft? What are their goals, motivations and ambitions? And what do they do if things aren’t going well or different than expected? What lessons have they learned so far?
Being a student is more than studying.
In this series of interviews 8 students of 3mE share their personal story about studying at TU Delft in front of the camera. Themes that are discussed are the choice of study, ways of studying, motivation, saying no, dealing with stress, asking for help, working together, ambitions and how to combine all this with a social life besides the study.
This initiative comes from Study Climate in cooperation with the study associations Variscopic, Gezelschap Leeghwater and Het Scheepsbouwkundig Gezelschap "William Froude".
