In S3D supports sometimes break through surfaces and leave artifacts and bond. When you make your own, just leave a 0.3- 0.4 offset and this is enough for the filament to be supported but break away with a slight tug! Nothing worse than a part peeling, warping, or lifting a few hours into an overnight print!
The only problem with PEI is part removal, if it has a large surface area you are going to have to chisel, hammer and pry, sometimes hurting yourself, the model, the PEI, or the machine.
With my new build plate I can flex them off.
I am planning to make them with and without PEI to test.
I might just make a mini production if others would be interested, just let me know with a "I'm interested" and I will post the costs as soon as they are ready. If anyone has an absolute preferred build surface i would be happy to consider mounting this or provide the bare plate.
