I wasn't able to do anything for pride month last year because of how busy I was, but after getting inspired, I've created the elven lullaby of my dreams!! It's crazy to think of the last time I made original music and how much I've improved since then in all aspects, like mixing and the actual composition. I hope you guys enjoy this as much as I loved making it.As for the actual video, here's the story I made below if anyone's interested:Melody, the songbird, gets caught in a middle of a storm so intense she loses her sense of direction. Exhausted, she falls into the ocean below, but thankfully she is saved by Aria, the siren.Once the storm subsides, Melody is immensely grateful to Aria. In fact, Melody overstays her welcome because she wants to get to know Aria more. She intrigues her, and she doesn’t know why. Aria reciprocates this feeling. Instantaneously, they click.But Melody eventually has to fly back home, promising Aria she will return to share their music.Days pass and both Aria and Melody greatly miss each other (although it’s only been a week). Melody wants to keep her promise but the fears of falling and getting caught in another storm hold her back. Instead, all she can do is hum to herself and hope by chance, Aria can feel her singing to her from miles away.Days become weeks, and Aria continues to wait. She's had her own struggles too, being too afraid to swim to the surface, which she overcame eventually but still, it haunts her. She worries if Melody has forgotten about her but continues to hope for the best.Melody has only shown her songbird form to Aria and not the real her, and she wonders if Aria would like her any less if she revealed her true self. However, the agony of wait becomes too much for Melody and the desire to see Aria triumphs over her fear eventually. Although another storm comes, Melody flies away with one goal in mind: to see Aria.As if called by a higher power, Aria waits out in the storm. But just as she sees a familiar bird in the distance, a flash erupts. Melody is too overjoyed to see Aria and wants to hold her in her arms, not wings. The rain begins to clear and the sun shines again. Suddenly assigned to protect the lives of fourteen strangers during their nightmares, she is caught in the eye of the storm where illusions affect reality and dreams destroy lives. I can't believe that after more than a year, I finally finished it and it's here! I wouldn't have been able to finish this if it weren't for all my friends and honestly, props to me for the impatience to finally get to them lol.A lot of this episode was thanks to experimentation! The final conclusion is that ibisPaint is the better drawing app for me PFT, well, not only that. Episode two should take me less time, but after this, I'm gonna go on "hiatus," and that's in quotes because that time will focus more on not just my senior year of high school, but fixing TDW's outline, remaking refs, and trying to further develop TDW into my vision. It wasn't my favorite but as I heard it more and more, I fell more in love with it. It was actually my friends that inspired me to make this cover though because it's their favorite song from Inside. I tend to be the most inspired by my friends.There was a lot of vocal editing I never really had to do before. For instance, the reverb. Since I was trying to go for the " singing into a microphone" feel, I had to put a good amount of it in. There was also the layering. Oh boy, the vocal layering. So much effort was put into peaking prevention. And thank goodness for the envelope tool. That helped me so much.Since there is only so much I can do cover-wise (since I don't make the instrumentals), I tried to twist the meaning of the song into something else with my vocals and the speech in the middle of it. I knew I wanted to put something else during that portion, but I was stuck until I was figured it out after a *cough*cough*mental breakdown*cough*cough*. But hey, whoever is saying that speech in the end of the day is up to interpretation. It's a song about finding acceptance and... ya know... pride. When I first heard this song, I was on the verge of tears. I won't go too in depth about it, but I have struggled with my sexuality for years already. I don't know what I am, and I struggle with such a large part of me that's unknown. I haven't accepted myself yet, but maybe I will someday.This cover is quite special because of the reason above, and the technicalities of it. The vocals were recorded in one run. So they aren't as good as usual, but I was perfectly fine with that.I also recorded myself playing the violin in some bits. As a violin player, the strings are what really made me fall in love with this song. I found the notes and I was playing over the instrumental, but I did add some parts like the reverbed string part after some pizzicato and the pizzicato at the end too.Although my playing is far from perfect and this took many hours, I'm proud of the product. I haven't said that so much so far so I hope that means something. To me, this song is about missing and not being able to let go of the past and having anxiety about what's coming next. It's a dreadful burden to bear, but the best I can do is sing it out. This song also hits very hard because of a single phrase: "Got to get it in my head. I'll never be sixteen again." Singing that line, being sixteen and all during a pandemic, hits like a frickin truck rammed into your gut. I'll never be sixteen again... so what can I do to make this the best sixteenth year ever?Another thing (because I just wanna ramble about the technicalities of this cover), I got the idea to put background audio from the lyric video of the original song. In the video, dodie is facing forwards while videos of her younger self play behind the car window. It gave me the inspiration of "hey, what if I try to replicate that, except place the audio in the song?" ...It made me realize I don't have that many vids of my friends. I can only rely on memories for so long, because while the memories in the background are pretty current, they won't be in ten years.
