World champion in torque density: ZF presents most compact e-drive

ZF Group 2023-07-07 | ZF creates next generation efficiency through technology innovations and holistic sytems in hardware and software. For the remarkably compact and lightweight 800-volt drive EVSys800 in our new electric concept car EVbeat, we use the Braided Winding technology. This is ZF's further development of the so-called wave winding. It enables us to bring more copper into the same motor dimensions while saving a total of 10% installation space. The e-motor is combined with a new developed compact coaxial reduction gearbox. In addition, the motor uses an innovative and effective cooling concept. This helps us to increase the continuous power level up to 75% of the peak performance. Also part of the EVbeat’s efficiency package is a solution called Software for Powertrain. This is an intelligent driver assistance that increases the range of an EV.

ZF 2023 Annual Press Conference

ZF Group 2023-03-16 | ZF CEO Dr. Holger Klein and CFO Michael Frick present the 2022 business figures.

The most important key figures at a glance: In the 2022 financial year, ZF achieved group sales of €43.8 (2021: €38.3) billion, an increase of 14 percent compared to the previous year. Organic growth was 9.3 percent, with the remaining difference primarily due to currency effects. Adjusted EBIT was €2,038 (2021: €1,910) million, which corresponds to an adjusted EBIT margin of 4.7 (2021: 5.0) percent.

In the area of research and development (R&D), ZF has again increased its activities: Expenditure on research and development was at a record level of €3.4 (2021: €3.1) billion. The R&D ratio reached 7.8 (2021: 8.0) percent. Investments in property, plant and equipment amounted to €1.9 (2021: €1.6) billion, which corresponds to an investment ratio of 4.3 (2021: 4.2) percent.

The Route Following Assist function guides the vehicle from highway entry to the final highway exit corresponding to the navigation destination. ZF’s Pedal Misapplication Prevention is a function to suppress these accidental gas pedal actuations enabling increased safety. The system reacts on vehicles, pedestrians, cyclists, walls, and other obstacles. And beyond gas pedal suppression, in combination with the ZF Emergency Braking function, the system also brakes to avoid or mitigate the impact of a potential collision. It is one more step towards our vision of a future with zero traffic accidents.

ZF Group 2023-03-02 | Safe and comfortable lane changes: ZF’s Level 2+ Lane Change Assist is capable of driver- and system-initiated automatic lane changes with consideration of surrounding traffic.

The system uses the latest camera and radar sensor technology to continuously assess the road and traffic situation around the vehicle. Upon driver request or confirmation for a lane change, the system confirms that a safe lane change is possible and then guides the vehicle into the next lane comfortably.

The function enables parking into narrow parking spaces and garages and performs the maneuver with a high degree of accuracy. To ensure safety, this feature is active as long as the driver supervises the parking maneuver and continuously confirms being in charge of vehicle operation through a smart key or phone.

ZFs AI-based Scene Prediction

ZF Group 2023-03-02 | ZF’s AI-based Scene Prediction function enables early reaction to dangerous situations arise.

ZF collects large-scale real-world data using vehicles with ZF sensors. The data is used to train an AI based algorithm to learn how traffic scenes can evolve over time. The AI can apply this knowledge to a currently observed traffic situation in order to predict what will likely happen and make that information available to the driver and the driving functions. This enables ZF driving functions to be more anticipative and feel more natural to the driver.
