// Geist von Neuenberge: An ancient legend from the "Bergisch Land". In the ruins of Burg Neuenberg nearby Lindlar the spirit of Count Wilhelm II. is rumored to haunt the old halls. The Count was defeated in the battle of Kleverhamm and had to pledge plenty of his fiefs which got his sons upset. One of them, Adolf prisoned him but his fellowship freed him from the dungeon of Castle Burg. The Count died in 1408, but his spirit is said to have stayed among us.

//Geist von Neuenberge ist eine alte Sage des Bergischen Landes. In der Burgruine Neuenberg bei Lindlar, soll der Geist vom Grafen Wilhelm II. vom Berg spuken. Der Graf wurde in der Schlacht von Kleverhamm vernichtend geschlagen und musste einige Ländereien verpfänden, was seine Söhne gegen ihn aufbrachte. Einer seiner Söhne (Adolf) nahm den Grafen später gefangen, doch seine Getreuen befreiten ihn aus dem Kerker von "Schloss Burg". Der Graf verstarb 1408, sein Geist wandelt jedoch weiterhin "unter uns" !

The Tribes of Witching Souls, according to lead singer Bruno Maia, goes back to the mythical side of the band by addressing the creatures or people of the goddess Danu and sings about some characters that were featured in the band's old songs. The lyrics make references and allusions to the giant Brazuzan, the dwarf Finganforn and other "magical journeys" to the fairy world.
"The lyrics reminds us of some characters and motes worked by the band in the past and we invite the listener to give this magical world a chance, if you turn off a little and 'burn' your inner demons, "says Bruno Maia.
About the composition, the musician points out that The Tribes of Witching Souls has the musical personality of Tuatha de Danann. "It goes back a bit to the more mystical, mythical, 'hippie' and festive side of the band. Something we did a lot until the album Trova di Danú. And our fans can feel it in the music! We highlighted the folk music instruments, the festive atmosphere, the heavy guitars, the crazy atmospheres of the keyboards and the "leprachauns" screaming typical of Tuatha.
The Tribes of Witching Souls was recorded at Braia Studio in Varginha. Bruno Maia, in addition to vocals, recorded the guitars, bouzouki, banjo, guitar and flutes. Giovani Gomes was in charge of the bass guitar and vocals and Edgard Brito recorded the keyboards. The drums and violins were recorded by the guests Fabrício Altino and Nathan Viana.

The Battle of the Yellow Ford was fought in western County Armagh, Ulster, in Ireland, near the River Blackwater on 14 August 1598. It was fought between the Gaelic native Irish army under Hugh O'Neill, Earl of Tyrone and Hugh O'Donnell and a Crown expeditionary force from Dublin under Sir Henry Bagenal, the commander of the Royal Irish Army. The Crown forces were marching from Armagh town to re-supply a besieged fort on the Blackwater when they fell into an ambush and were routed with heavy losses.

In the video, the battle is over and the Irish are victorious. Two Irish Buannachts, soldiers of Hugh O’Neill, are tracking an English captain and rifleman who have become separated from their company as they fled the battle. The rifleman doesn’t realise it but he is out of gun powder, this will be a fair fight in the wild Irish countryside. Before deciding to attack, the Irish captain reflects on who is waiting at home and the importance of victory for the freedom of his country!

Some info on the historically accurate clothes and equipment featured in the video, various items such as swords and helmets are real – over 400 years old, with that in mind we hope you understand why there was no fake blood used in the video:

Irish Buannacht Captain:
The costume is based on an ensemble from a bog find dated c.1590-1630 from Co Derry including doublet (jacket), trews (hose trousers) and brogues (shoes). This part of Ireland was then ruled by the O’Cahan’s who provided many Buannachts (Gaelic Irish professional soldiers) to Hugh O’Neill’s army throughout the Nine Years War. The yellow linen shirt just visible under the doublet, which was traditionally dyed with saffron, was banned by successive Tudor administrations alongside the long Gaelic moustache (the croimeal) and the distinctive Gaelic hairstyle known as the glib – this latter was composed of shorn sides and back with long top and fringe. The ‘target’ shield made of iron represents an import from Hapsburg ruled Spain. Philip II and Philip III of Spain were O’Neill and O’Donnell’s allies during the 9 Years War. The c.1550 side sword is based on an Italian original and the long scian (traditional Irish fighting knife) is based on an archaeological find of a sheath from Kilcumber Co Offaly. In the scene where the captain takes leave of his wife, the helmet he carries is of the Spanish morion type which bore no comb but rather a ‘pear stalk’ finial.

Irish Buannact:
This set of clothes, like that worn by Keith, is based upon surviving finds from Dungiven in Co Derry. The cabasset helmet is the most frequently seen type worn by Irish Buannachts in contemporary drawings of the Nine Years War. Like the comb morion, its origins are probably north Italian and were frequently copied throughout Europe. The leather covered wooden ‘targe’ is 19 inches in diameter and is tooled in Gaelic style and is a copy of an original in a private collection. The traditional Gaelic sword is of native Irish type with a characteristic open ring pommel. This particular example is based on an archaeological find from the Co Antrim side of Lough Neagh. The fringed leather scabbard is also a traditional Gaelic style recorded in both Scotland and Ireland in contemporary drawings.

The Bergische Lions have spared no expense and effort to tell the most famous raid of the Northmen in a picture-perfect epic music video. The musical background of the video is Obscurity’s song '793' from the current album ‘Streitmacht’. In total, the production acquired more than 50 performers for the video shoot, in addition to historical locations, such as the Slawendorf Brandenburg or the dragon boat 'Freya' (Feldberger Seenplatten). The video was directed and shot by Sascha Krüger of #iMotion Factory who in the past produced (among others) Obscurity’s award winning music video ‘Streitmacht Bergisch Land’.
No more words are needed, the result speaks for itself. Put yourself back in the year 793 and see what happened on the English peninsula ... 793 - Lindisfarne ... ihr werdet die Schafe sein..
