This is a 'passion project' of mine, experimenting with animation and typography. I used AffinityPhoto for the hand-drawn still images and animated them using Moho Pro 12 and iMovie. Finishing touches came from Filmora - they have great transitions and effects - and the song is Running Red Lights by my all time favourite band The Avalanches. The song itself is quite spiritual and uplifting, with the darkest lyrics, which made it ideal for a visual interpretation of cartoon colour and astral projection. Scratby may not be the prettiest name for an English seaside village, but it's the kind of resort that people return to year after year. My family has been coming here since the 1940s.Barbary Lane in 3DDeviousCorporation2022-12-29 | What if you could zoom inside my artwork? I took my Logical Lockdown print and turned it into a 3D model. It's Barbary Lane, home of Mrs Madrigal, the famous landlady from Armistead Maupin's Tales of the City series.
The original artwork was approved by the author himself, and it soon became part of a range of merchandise which you can find here markwallis.me
Created during the horrors of the early pandemic, I wanted to illustrate a safe place where we would all like to isolate, and Barbary Lane was already an iconic beacon of hope for the dispossessed.
The music is my song Beach House, which I made in GarageBand. The Avalanches Manchester 2022DeviousCorporation2022-06-22 | Has The Ritz got smaller, or have I got bigger? An insane live show from The Avalanches, my favourite band. We one waited 16 years for a follow up album, so a live show is a miracle event. Shattered and obviously still not used to vodka. Why Should I Love You (Heart of Summer remix) - Kate Bush and PrinceDeviousCorporation2022-01-07 | Free audio download from SoundCloud http://tinyurl.com/5fx3325m
Back in 93, Kate Bush collaborated with Prince on Why Should I love You, a track from The Red Shoes album which seems to be about a broken-hearted woman seeking spiritual comfort, although maybe more like Madonna than Mother Teresa. Interviews from the time suggest that Prince dominated the track and Kate had to reign him in for balance.
We may never hear the demo he sent to Kate, so I've tried to reimagine how it would have sounded. Using many iconic Prince motifs, I've sampled The Purple One to raise his profile to the fore. Aside from percussion, guitars and backing vocals, I've used a line from Mountains which seems to chime with the sentiment of Kate's original demo and album track.
I'm hugely blessed to have additional vocals from Mandy Watson of Cloudbusting (see if you can spot them) thank you so much! The whole track was made over the last 6 months using Apple GarageBand.
For the video I used still images of each singer and animated them, either by hand using Moho Pro Animation Software or various AI apps and online services. In all cases I had to use my own mouth, lip-syncing to guide the software. All the animation is my own work, and I designed the Prince/Kate Bush symbol. I also borrowed footage from Light Moves at Washington National Cathedral by Colin Winterbottom.
I think the star of the show is Lenny Henry, whose gorgeous voice was used to cover the lines that Prince ignored. I've also brought him to the fore, where he deserves to be. He looks a bit grumpy, but you would if Kate was more interested in Prince.
Dedicated to Neil Scott for his dedication and triumphs.
In loving memory of Eva Georgieva of Trio Bulgarka and Prince Rogers Nelson.
Contains elements of: Why Should I Love You by Kate Bush and Prince Why Should I love You (demo) by Kate Bush Night Scented Stock by Kate Bush Mountains by Prince Kiss by Prince Purple Rain by Prince When Doves Cry by Prince The Beautiful Ones by Prince
Vocals by Kate Bush, Trio Bulgarka, Prince, Lenny Henry and Mandy Watson.

The soundtrack was provided by the client along with a brief that it should be set in a bookshop. I used Moho Pro animation and Affinity Photo to turn a picture of some bookshelves into a 3 dimensional virtual film set.Song For Barbara Payton - The Avalanches (DC Mix)DeviousCorporation2021-01-17 | I did a remix! This is Song For Barbara Payton by #TheAvalanches which only really had a vocal and not much else to go on. So I built a cathedral of tragedy around it, with an upbeat kind of rhythm. Have fun spotting the other samples. This really is crying at the discoteque!
Dedicated to Robbie Chater who has brought us all so much musical happiness despite all the odds. And also to the memory of Barbara Payton, of course.Christmas at Barbary LaneDeviousCorporation2019-12-25 | This is an animation I made for author Armistead Maupin in honour of his Tales of the City series of novels and tv shows. Its a Gift!DeviousCorporation2019-11-28 | The Chorlton Art Market Christmas AdvertThe General Theory of HauntingDeviousCorporation2019-10-27 | The new book from author Richard Easter.Atomic Mint TrailerDeviousCorporation2019-04-29 | It's nearly time for another episode of Mint! This year I realised I had two days to start from scratch if I wanted to release it in time. So here it is, after a sprint for the finish - what I see in my head when I hear David Sylvian's September.Black Siren - This Mortal Coil vs GoldfrappDeviousCorporation2016-05-24 | My best ever remix is a mashup of Song to the Siren and Black Cherry, made with very primitive tools back in 2003. Contains elements of This Mortal Coil's Song to the Siren and Goldfrapp's Black Cherry. I only just completed the video which contains some very clunky stop-motion animation.

I was lucky enough to see one of the shows and was blown away by the performance, and the magical atmosphere in the theatre. I based my illustration on the old Star Wars movie poster from the 70s, which I felt echoed the drama, fantasy and excitement of Before The Dawn. This is my first proper attempt at animation and is Fan Art. PLAY HERE: vimeo.com/60836217 This was originally an instrumental track from the Slave to the Rhythm album, and I decided to take samples from the other tracks and turn it into a vocal. I always loved the stereo effects and tried to illustrate them visually with this video. This is a fan made mix, and I don't own audio or visual.
My version of Goldfrapp's only Christmas record beefs up the original with big drums, a bouncing bass and a choir. I even threw in some tubular bells and a quote from It's a Wonderful Life. It's a moving Christmas card!

We found an old Victorian-style carousel with horses and crazy fairground music and just couldn't resist. The whole thing looks very genteel, but it's a different story when you actually climb on. We whistled at hunky firemen and scared the ducks. Almost a perfect day!Postcard from Bishops StortfordDeviousCorporation2012-03-31 | Here's a trip down memory lane for me and my family. And anyone else who left Bishop's Stortford and looks back with happy memories. We picked a beautiful spring day in 2009 to go back to my place of birth, and after 30 years I was pleased to see that nothing much had changed. Even my old school tie is still totally psychedelic! I went and bought one for old times' sake.
This is a short film I made of The Doctor Who Experience at London's Kensington Olympia. Part exhibition, part theme park thrill-ride, totally brilliant! Sadly it's closed now, but it's supposed to be resurfacing in Cardiff soon. I got to fly the Tardis and was held hostage on the bridge of a Dalek mothership, but nothing beats the hushed awe of actually stepping onto the Tardis set. Geekiness abounds...Sparky the Amazing Dancing CatDeviousCorporation2011-06-15 | Ok, he can't dance or read. But he was funky. Sparky was a rescue cat, who was old when I got him. He was bright and engaging, always trying to speak, but I had no idea what he was saying. After 6 happy years with me he became ill and passed away just before xmas 2010. I had the good sense to film him in HD, and these are my memories.

I filmed the event and this is my tribute. The soundtrack is an exclusive remix which I created for this film.Goldfrapp LiveDeviousCorporation2010-12-06 | CONTAINS FLASHING IMAGES.
To have excellent tunes is one thing. But to be consistently brilliant live, and to be the benchmark of cool for other bands... A bunch of us went to see Goldfrapp live at Manchester Academy on November 17 2010. They seem more like a band now, and Alison has dropped the Ice Queen act and gone for Rock Panther, prowling the stage and punching the air.
There was a strict No Camera policy as you can see, and during the beautiful Black Cherry encore, some security thug told me to stop filming. Despite the regular intrusions, the atmosphere was electric and we all had a great time. Catch them next time around....Panic and RunDeviousCorporation2010-11-10 | I made this at college, and the brief was a short movie to demonstrate Final Cut editing software. This is my imaginary titles for a supernatural thriller set in Manchester's Chinatown. Strangely, plain clothes policemen appeared from the darkness and told me to stop filming, which I didn't. As you can see...DarkroomDeviousCorporation2010-11-10 | We went on a tour of Manchester's underground tunnels, the dark forbidding legacy of the Industrial Revolution. There was no lighting, all we had were torches so the footage is a bit Blair Witch, but thanks to the new iMovie trailer templates, I made a decent little flick. It was like the set of a horror movie down there...
The tours sell out really quickly, but google them and see if you can handle total darkness. It's a giggle! This Is San FranciscoDeviousCorporation2008-04-23 | I left my heart, you really do! And of course the feeling I got from the song was a nostalgic one, so I put the Banana Splits in, to evoke the TV shows of my childhood and also to keep the theme of silly costumes which has been a backdrop to the Seventh Tree era.
