Enjoy the recap of our last Noisia Invites ever, held at @MelkwegAmsterdamOfficial on May 13th, 2022.
After Outer Edges we were trying to find a new direction for Noisia. This resulted in an extensive journey that took us through a lot of new ideas and music.
Although we eventually decided to stop, we are proud of the things we made along the way, and these tunes were always meant to be part of a larger whole. So before we finally close the book on Noisia, we wanted to share them with you, on one last album. Previously released or newly finished, they all represent directions we enjoyed exploring.
In the end, we didn’t manage to figure things out. But we did get closer.

#Noisia #VISION #LiveStream #Kingsnight #NoisiaInvitesNoisia Patreon = VISION PatreonNoisia2021-01-01 | Hello person. Welcome to this...change. http://patreon.com/visionrecordings (Read more below)
We are going to rename our Patreon page to ‘VISION’ starting today. Why, you ask? And what does it mean for me?
We want to shift the focus of our Patreon to VISION and it’s growing world. If we’d keep the name Noisia attached, Noisia would still be the focus, even though we have already decided to stop Noisia. Of course, we still mean to do a proper farewell tour and everything. But VISION is our way forward.
So what will change then? Not much, actually. We will involve the artists on VISION in more ways. But we will still provide tutorials and remix stems for the Producer tier, the VISION tier will stay the same (albeit with a name change to ‘Label tier’), and we will still make a radio show, as supported by the Radio tier. The radio show will subsequently also be renamed - to VISION Radio. It will still be curated by us. But think of it as Nik, Thijs and Martijn :D
Label wise VISION has really come into its own this year. The first MISSION LP is a fact, and we’ve worked thoroughly and patiently to develop releases in close tandem with our artists (and designers) to realise their...yeah, you guessed it - vision. We’re very proud of what we have put out, and next year is already looking extra special for a lot of reasons that we cannot divulge because: secret. Yes.
This 2020 has been crazy for pretty much everyone, including ourselves. So we are very grateful to have your support, a support that has really grown this year in response to our new content, like the production tutorials. This is amazing, and we’re excited to share more knowledge and deep dive into more production concepts.
With no festivals happening, we decided to release a live version of our 'Outer Edges' AV show.
About Outer Edges: “This was the most ambitious thing we ever did together: creating an audiovisual show around our own album, ‘Outer Edges‘. It meant building an audiovisual instrument first (with Boompje Studio, Pixelclone and Manuel Rodrigues) and thén a show to perform on that instrument. Everything synced, but controlled live, to create one cohesive experience. It was a lot of work, and a lot of stress – especially when the actual album leaked and we found out minutes before going on stage to perform it for the first time – but it is something we are still very proud of. The visuals were all custom made, a lot of them by Nik himself who VJ’d during the set, Thijs brought a part of his modular setup to jam on stage, and Martijn controlled the flow of the songs through Ableton. It felt like the ultimate way to perform our music.” – Noisia
In late January and early February we had Sonny Skrillex over in the studios. Thijs and Sonny caught a super last minute idea to do a surprise back to back breakbeat/house/electro/techno dj set of stuff they were feeling at the moment, and luckily our friends at Oost Club were able to accommodate us!

“Armajet is a game with its roots in 90’s twitch shooters. Hardcore, unforgiving, instant, inhuman. The match with our music was obvious. We didn’t have to work out much about what it needed to sound like. The music we made for it isn’t purely about Armajet itself, though. A lot of other elements come through: the frustration over our breaking up, my personal attachment to the 90/00’s twitch shooter genre (UT99 specifically), the 90’s trance sound of detuned saw arps, and the developing 3D game graphics of the time: futuristic, unnatural and new. The music reflects these 90’s gamer kicks; seeking the maximum challenge, speed, reflexes, resolution, framerate, information density, eyes wide open from energy drinks, falling asleep on your keyboard at a LAN party. How fast can my brain go, how much can I take. What has now arguably become a chronic disease for everyone with a smartphone back then was the rush we were after. Nailing that impossible shock combo or headshot in a flow state, watching each other discover seemingly inhuman levels of mastery in a different reality. The digital frontier.” - Noisia

“This song started as a pretty angry demo called ‘Death, Rocks!’, written in the Izu Kogen studios during The Upbeats’ magnificent No Sleep Till Japan project. When we picked it up again in our studios we went on a strange tangent that initially didn’t seem to make sense. But slowly it unfolded into a song that wanted to be about letting go, about new horizons and great memories. And hints of jazzy disco, which of course as you know is a staple of the Noisia and Upbeats sound since time immemorial, umm right, please listen to our weird song.”

It's not essential to know this before listening, but here's what it means to us: it's a song about a journey into the space inside yourself. A cathartic, claustrophobic journey of self-confrontation. Apart from that it's also in a different time signature than 4/4 (it's more or less 17/8). This makes it virtually unmixeable too. We hope you enjoy it. Love, Noisia

Deep Down is centered around one simple acid riff that came from Thijs’s modular. It starts off hypnotic, repetitive and tunneling, then looks for a couple side doors and enters them, but they all lead back, deeper down into the tunnel…

In June Thijs was over at Amon Tobin’s place in LA for a studio session. This is one of the tracks that came out of that session, it was pretty much completely done in 3 days. It was made in a dark place, infused with love for 808 electro, breakbeats, old crusty synthesisers and samplers, alternate tuning scales, and Mezcal & Tonic on the rocks.

When we were doing the Outer Edges shows we came up with the idea to update ‘Asteroids’ for the set, and Nik ended up kind of reconstructing the song with new synths. The response on it was rather positive so, we decided we had to put it out!
