Blended Scotch Whisky - What is it and what to buy? Scotch on the Bayou 2025-02-05 | Among single malt whisky fans, Blended Scotch Whisky sometimes gets the side-eye treatment, a huff of disapproval and a firm “no thank you” which isn’t really fair. The category far outsells single malts so that should tell you something. There is a market for this type of whisky and it isn’t always the cheapest on the bottom shelf of the market. Blends have a lot to offer. You just need to know where to look. We’ll talk about the usual suspects, big brands that grandpa always drank, and some feisty upstarts that are rocking the boat of the whisky world (and that of snooty single malt drinkers). Knowing that the liquid in your glass was produced at a place that "ain't there no more." It's a moment of reverence and remembrance for those who made the spirit and shepherded the casks. What was it like back then? Why did the distillery close? Is the whisky as good as the legend attached to its name? Then there are the distilleries that have risen from being mothballed, some regarded as the second coming of Scotch. How will they replicate or compliment what they created all those years ago.
