Mel Meow Muses 😽 2022-06-01 | This is for all of us who have lost someone and especially those who only have pictures instead of memories to remember. I have loads of pictures of my mom but this is one I think of a lot. And then one day a few months ago this popped in my head. Last week I had 20 mins to record. And this came out. Sentimental as my husband said but true to my experience and feelings.

My mom was almost 28 when it all got too much for her. She was sick with several things and one day could not hang on. I was 5. I hear she was an amazing mama before she got sick

So it's true that we kind of "threw this together" ya know, like when people say "nice dress" and you say "this old thing" but actually I had to do it all super quick cuz time. I need to write a song about time.

Me and Forrest had the worst colds a few weeks ago....(not covid)...and feel a bit better now. But I had no singing voice...I did my best to record a bit last week and then make this fun video! I was still a little scratchy but it came out ok! I had a lot of fun experimenting on garageband to get a very ethereal sound.

I bet you would not have guessed this would be the Frozen song I would pick lol! Maybe Into the unknown one day....but...Me and Forrest LOVE this song from Frozen 2...it's so pretty and mysterious, heartfelt and haunting...

*The video was just for fun.* Ya know-i'm in the ~river~ of memory lol....with some interpretative dance lol etc. I don't know...lol I was just having fun!!!!!!! I realize the video is super dorky lol...Let's all go with it 😂😂😂 Also the creek was so slippery so I am amazed I didn't fall in lol. I had to stand there very gingerly. 😂😂😂 (right before I started recording someone came by with their dogs and he did fall in!!! )
I almost didn't post today because I'm not really sure what I am doing with music/YT right now (and my one friend didn't "get" this video lol, you know who you are)...I hope to vlog about it or write more about it all next time.

The blue vest cloth I have on was my moms. She died when I was 5 and it's one of a handful of things I have of hers. This song really gets to my heart-esp the mother full of memory part...man those Disney movies really get inside my heart with their haunting music and story lines but esp the Frozen franchise...

Mel Meow Muses 😽 2021-06-10 | Ok here is my super incredibly indulgent, mildly theatrical performance of two Alice in Wonderland classics. Including Jack the Cat! He is my sweet angel 17 year old black long haired domestic cat
full of awesomeness! He wasn't super amused to be in the video but that's only because he can't talk for himself!
The first song was hard to figure out....and might not be just right...but I love the lyrics so much! I 100% know there is a sour note at a min in....I almost sang it acapella because the keys are so weird!! ...but hey it's all in good fun and silliness...and loaded up quick on the ol' iPhone...
I loved this book so much as a child. My grandfather gave me an old weathered and yellowed copy when I was little and I took great comfort in reading it every night and falling asleep with it like a stuffed animal. I still have it!

Mel Meow Muses 😽 2021-05-20 | Years and years ago a friend of mine gave me a card from an inspirational Sark card deck....it said:

*if she just got still and quiet maybe new parts might speak*

I fell in love with that phrase and eventually wrote a song about what that meant to me.

I wrote this at least ten years ago and I have never been all the way finished with it or happy with it......yet~it remains one of my favorites I've written, so go figure. I find myself singing the chorus quite often in fact. It perks me up! I've changed the lyrics often enough that the song feels completely alive, like it has a mind of its own!! And maybe it's kind of (really) cheesy!

The first verse is about a musician I heard being interviewed on a local radio station...he said all people write about is love and that was not helping anyone...I was personally affronted lol~ 😂

I know, I know...I feel like all my song sometimes are pats on the back, keep going, pick yourself up songs....mostly...I thought if I ever had an album I could call it emotional cheerleader lol
but all these songs are like good friends...they have helped me when I needed it most and continue to do so.

Back story...
A long time ago guy I was dating who was all "I'd like to go back to South Korea and teach ESL there again". And I was all "I'm definitely coming".
Long story short rural South Korea was a very beautiful and very difficult place to live. In the culture and the relationship I started feel myself slowly slip into a place where I felt like a bit of a ghost. When I got back to the US, I settled back in and eventually started dating a dear old friend who became my husband. I wrote this song about 13 ish years ago to describe how I felt about starting over again after that intense relationship. And how to really be free with myself and who I was after being in such a weird place in SK.
But actually, the song started to come to me when I was at a co-workers party one night. On her mirror in her bathroom she had a little handwritten sigh that simply said, " Give yourself a break". I really liked that a lot! We all expect so much from our little human selves. We could all stand to give ourselves a break. And just BE ourselves. It's so hard.
The song has changed a lot for me over the years and is always a reminder to find the life inside you even when you feel like everything is so very hard and you can't find your own light anymore. Somewhere it is still there. Sometimes it is so very hard to feel it and to see it. But part of me knows it is always there shining.

Mel Meow Muses 😽 2021-04-15 | Ok, ok, this band is my guilty pleasure. I have been covertly enjoying their music since the 90's. Their live album Rock Spectacle will live in my heart forever!
This song has been in my head on and off for at least a year. BNL did these amazing selfie cam jams when the pandemic started and not only has Pinch Me been in my head since then but the cam jams were one of the ways that made the early pandemic less awful. When they came at us every week with their messages of hope and kindness I was able to smile and even laugh. BNLs songs are so upbeat and positive and their lyrics are often so so good. And you can't deny their songs are ear worms!

I wrote it about 10 years ago...it always makes me feel better and remember who I am and who I strive to be. Reminding myself to look internally rather than externally for the answers. It's all in me!

Mr Snider writes some good tunes....

*Who’s got a great mic to recommend?
Right now I feel like my old mic is just fine but there are some particular eccentricities that it seems to have and I’d like to streamline things a little bit.*

Also I think spring might feel a little more spacious, at least in my head, for original work. I’m working on a few new songs and many old songs. I know folks like seeing video with video and my mug 😸but stuff sounds so darn good on garage band and I don’t really understand how you make it all come together to have video and guitar and singing all at the same time while using garage band. Feel free to link me to or suggest a tutorial. (Ps I mean I kind of get the idea because of working with Del but there’s something still elusive about it. I’ve tried on my own to record a video while singing and recording on garage band at the same time and then putting it in iMovie and turning down the volume of the video and trying to sync it, but it just don’t look natural-like LOL, maybe I’ll post the one I tried as an experimental advice video.)

But sometimes the words just come...one day a bit ago, I was feeling quite blah, so I went on a walk. I was up at the top of a lovely field and the words just hit me. So...believe it or not I only knew one ABBA song before I heard this and I bet you can guess what it is ;)
The Winner Takes It All It All is such a beautiful, heart-wrenching, and dramatic song! I didn't realize, until I watched the video that Del masterfully created, that I got SUPER into it, lol. Well, singing a song is a lot like telling a story. This song feels like it was right out of a musical.
I hope you all enjoy it! The vocal range was a real edge for me to push but I thought I would give it a go anyhow.

Mel Meow Muses 😽 2021-01-07 | This song is a tribute to my dad today. He passed away on Jan 17 two years ago. He was a one of kind guy. And I miss him all the time. When he was in hospice this song kept going through my head. In a private room down the hall there was a guitar and to soothe myself I would play this over and over. My dad liked the weather channel, it was always on. His small talk was always about the weather. "Hey how's the weather out there kiddo?" So of course the line "I get the news I need from the weather report" resonated. He was also in the airforce, no flying but he was a mechanic. It's ironic that after the airforce he rarely flew, he was terrified. And of course we make our own meaning from songs so when Paul sings Here I am, I always feel my dad is here.
I got through this without crying so that was a bonus. But it wasn't easy.
He was a hilarious, stoic, hard to read, super loving, playful, goofball and I wish he was here to see my little Forrest grow up. But I do have some comfort knowing he is a peace. And maybe he is looking down on us all ;)

I know this isn’t perfect but I wanted to play it anyway because I love it.

I also want to say that I have been pretty busy with schooling and playing with my kiddo and other duties....I might be slow replying here and there and watching your amazing videos!! But I really want to!!!!!!!! So much love to everyone!!! XOXOXOXOXOXOXOXO MEEEOOOWW!

This is a book I got when I was 3 and have kept it for always because it's completely bizarre and wonderful! It's a 12 days of Christmas song parody and I LOVE it! Who doesn't want a couple of dorkle bugs?!?!?!
I did it unbelievably in one take (cuz that's all the time mama had) BUT I think it came out pretty aight...with only a couple oopsies...lol....
