Ep. 7 Flying Home from Alaska Matt Galland 2021-04-25 | After limping back to Campell River with an inop Torque gauge we stumble across some amazing luck. The one place in town that repairs rotorcraft has 5 or so parts for Robinson helicopters. One of those parts is exactly the part we need to get back into the skies. Now it's just a matter of who is going to pay for it. After that we just have to fly a couple hundred miles over inlets and mount rainier to make it home.

The second half of our flight home from the Bell factory in Montreal was a sweat inducing experience. However, at the end we got treated to an amazing flight above some low level fog in the beautiful red rocks of southern Utah.

Bell 505 Helicopter Pickup and Flying New York at Night Matt Galland 2021-03-16 | We travel to Montreal Canada to pick up a Bell 505 Helicopter from the Bell factory. Bell rolls out the red carpet with a tour of the factory, acceptance flight and lunch. Then they hand over the keys and see us off as we fly back across the border into the United States. With a helicopter that has fewer than 15 hours and a pilot who's never flown on the East Coast we charge ahead for a night flight of New York City. Down the Hudson River around The Statue of Liberty and up the East River then a landing at the 31st heliport for a pizza in the city before taking off once again to sleep somewhere less expensive.

It also gives us an opportunity to work out any wrinkles with our plan before we expose ourselves to the wild lands of Canada and Alaska. The only problem is that sometimes, between the trees and the water, there's no where to land!

There's no better way to see either of those wonders than from a helicopter. That is, as long as you don't fixate on the possibility of having to auto rotate into one of the many giant blue cracks covering the surface of the glacier.
